Crisafulli welcomes more global investments in Queensland coal mining sector

The Queensland government says new private investment in three coal mining sites in the Bowen Basin will help secure hundreds of jobs. The Premier says he's providing investors with certainty to come to Queensland but the mining lobby is pushing him to take action on coal royalties.

00:16Selling new private investment in three existing coal mines in the Bowen Basin.

00:21It'll secure the future of a thousand jobs.

00:24The jurisdiction of Queensland, in particular the world class Bowen Basin,

00:28was a natural fit for us.

00:29Newly formed group Argo Queensland will control Fitzroy Resources.

00:34This deal was brokered as part of my trade mission to India and Japan.

00:39It's the latest in a string of resources announcements

00:42after a South African company gave the go-ahead to its new copper mine

00:46in the state's North West

00:48and the government backed a coal mine extension in central Queensland.

00:52We welcome the announcements.

00:54We love to hear the government talking positively about our industry.

00:57But the mining sector isn't welcoming the government's decision to keep the lucrative coal royalties regime introduced by Labor.

01:05Certainty of what is really a poor policy doesn't provide the certainty that industry wants.

01:12Those coal royalties pay for our hospitals and schools and roads and dams and bridges and police officers and nurses and teachers.

01:19Coal royalties are a way to make sure that the rest of us get a fair share of coal super profits.

01:24While the Premier isn't budging on coal royalties, he insists he's providing investors with certainty,

01:30including with the latest investment in the Bowen Basin.

01:34The government's role as a whole is to provide that certainty as a safe place to invest.

01:39What they're getting is certainty that this is about certainty.

01:42It's about certainty.

01:44What they're not doing is they just let the banks,
