Cronos: The New Dawn has been praised for its approach to classic survival horror which by no means is going to let its players off easily. Created by the studio behind SILENT HILL 2 and acclaimed titles like The Medium, Observer, and Layers of Fear, Bloober Team poured years of their horror experience into creating this one-of-a-kind production. 00:01The New Dawn is an old-school survival horror with a few new combat mechanics that you need to master in order to survive.
00:14Set in a bleak, alternate future where all the humanity has been wiped out, you play as a traveler,
00:22tasked by the mysterious collective to dive back into the past and collect the essences of key people targeted by the collective.
00:34The game is played from a third-person perspective and its combat is designed to make players feel rewarded for thinking strategically.
00:44This is the kind of game where you can't afford to waste bullets, nor you can ignore any loot drops or opportunities for crafting.
00:55Instead the focus, especially in the first few hours, is on pure survival.
01:01You have to make use of your limited inventory, pick up every last bullet and healing item and learn how to finish off enemies as efficiently as possible.
01:10A key strategy here is to charge up your weapon for each shot, which deals more damage and helps you save more ammo.
01:19Then, as you get increasingly powerful by unlocking more upgrades for your suit and weapons,
01:27you'll find that enemies which one posts a challenge are now easier to deal with,
01:33and you'll have enough tools in your arsenal to face off against even bigger threats.
01:37But remember, the enemies in this game have a trick up their sleeve. They can merge.
01:46Any enemy you can kill can be absorbed by other nearby enemies, making them stronger and tougher.
01:54Fire is your best friend in this game. You can use it to burn the bodies of the dead enemies and also to interrupt the merge as it's happening.
02:04Additionally, there are red barrels that you can shoot to cause an explosion and eliminate multiple enemies at once.
02:15What's more, all of your weapons serve different roles. Some are meant for close quarters combat.
02:23Others better suited for long range shooting. You can even change their firing modes with different upgrades at the travelers workstation.
02:36And remember, only use melee as your last resort, not your primary choice.
02:42If you made it this far, congratulations! You have what it takes to be a traveler.
02:49Chronos is a challenging game, but it can also be immensely rewarding if you take the time to really master its mechanics and strategy.
