00:00It looks like the extra four minutes of footage and recent headlines over
00:10Sony and Marvel's controversial divorce has actually paid off for the re-release
00:14of Spider- Far From Home at the Labor Day box office. The film closed out summer
00:18on a high, earning an estimated $4.3 million for the three-day weekend and $5.4
00:24million for the four-day holiday frame, bringing it up more than 200% from last
00:29weekend's gross of $1.7 million. Spider- Far From Home now has a shot of hitting the
00:34$400 million mark in the U.S., becoming the second installment in the franchise to do so
00:39behind only the first Spider-Man, which grossed $403 million back in 2002. Not only that,
00:45but the film would also become the first non-Disney pick of 2019 to cross the $400
00:49million mark domestically alongside Avengers Endgame, The Lion King, Toy Story 4 and
00:54Captain Marvel. In terms of summer revenue, Sony ranks number two just behind Disney,
00:59catapulting Sony to its best summer since 2006. The superhero pick, starring Tom Holland
01:05as a web-slinging hero, has given the studio plenty to boast about. Back in August, it
01:10became the top-grossing Sony movie of all time at the global box office. It was just
01:14days after this milestone that news broke of Sony and Disney split. The two powerhouse
01:18studios decided to part ways as co-producers on the revived Spider-Man movie franchise,
01:22after reportedly not coming to a financial agreement. There has since been public
01:26outcry over the matter considering the superhero may no longer appear in Marvel
01:30movies after making an appearance in the final two installments of the blockbuster
01:34Avengers franchise. Sony Pictures is, however, still vowing to carry on the Spider-Man
01:39franchise. It'll just have to be without Marvel Studios involvement. For more on this
