00:00The comment I made about dance was insensitive, it was stupid, and I am deeply sorry."
00:06Lara Spencer is once again apologizing following backlash she received for poking fun at Prince
00:11George taking ballet lessons, this time sitting down with three professional dancers in an
00:16effort to turn a negative into a positive.
00:19The outrage sparked last week during a taping of GMA.
00:22The anchor was discussing Prince George's new hobby and cracked a joke to news that
00:26Prince William said his son loves ballet, saying,
00:33People on social media were offended and outraged by the comment, with many calling it
00:38ignorant and insensitive and demanding an apology from the GMA anchor.
00:42Spencer, who first apologized for her remarks on social media, once again apologized on
00:46Monday's episode speaking directly to the camera saying,
00:49I screwed up. The comment I made about dance was insensitive. I was stupid and I am deeply sorry.
00:55Spencer then took her apology a step further by saying that she spoke to a number of people
00:59within the dance community to educate herself and others on embracing and celebrating male
01:04dancers and the positive impact of dance.
01:07Spencer introduced a pre-recorded interview with Cats star Robbie Fairchild,
01:11So You Think You Can Dance's two-time Emmy-winning choreographer Travis Wall and Joffrey
01:16Ballet principal dancer Fabrice Kalmels. During the interview, Fairchild told the anchor,
01:20The fact that you're able to be here and talk with us is really important because we are a
01:25community of love and in order for us to move forward, we have to move forward together.
01:30Wall later reflected on how So You Think You Can Dance has changed how male dancers are
01:34represented, saying,
01:35How many boys have started to dance because of that show makes me so proud to represent that show.
01:40As for Kalmels, he just wishes people would be more open-minded, saying,
01:44I teach young kids and boys. They just drop because of the social stigma around the form.
01:49Children should be entitled to experience things without the bullying.
01:53Spencer once again apologized to the dancers for her comments, saying,
01:56I thank you all for giving me the opportunity to apologize personally to you and for you guys
02:01coming in here to sit and talk to me and to educate me.
