00:00He's scheduled for one fall, currently in the ring area with his manager, the mouth of the south, Jimmy Hart.
00:07Weighing in at 249 pounds and hailing from Seattle, Washington, here he is, Greg the Hammer Valentine.
00:19This is a hard dream.
00:23Boone to be in the ring area, hailing from Austin, Texas, weighing in at 289 pounds, here is the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes.
00:36Here he comes, Dusty Rhodes, going up against the Hammer, Greg Valentine, and Lord Albert Hayes, this should be a great matchup between two men, certainly they're both heavy hitters in the World Wrestling Federation.
00:50They really are, but what a contrast between these two men.
00:54Dusty Rhodes, look at him, he has a lot of style, a lot of class, and on the other side we see a brutal man, a very simple man, who's easily pleased, but at the same time a very, very brutal man indeed.
01:07There's Dusty Rhodes, he is set to go, and you have to realize that Dusty is going up not only against Greg the Hammer Valentine, but he has to be wary of the mouth of the south, Jimmy Hart at the same time.
01:19We're back to the corner, Valentine breaks away, and that was different.
01:23No, definitely different.
01:24Is he showing a little respect here for Dusty Rhodes, because I've never known him really to respect anybody, and all the time you can hear that infernal machine being blared through by the mouth of the south, Jimmy Hart.
01:35In fact, we've got a bird's eye view from Jimmy Hart then.
01:39Little Shelby match there, Valentine goes down, Dusty, right in front of him.
01:45You like that move, don't you?
01:47Yes, that always excites me, the same as it excites everybody else here.
01:51He is a very, very captivating man with a great personality, and I do mean Dusty Rhodes, not the mouth of the south, Jimmy Hart on the outside.
02:04Right to the arm, hammer right on the wrist of Dusty Rhodes, and pulling on that arm.
02:08The key for Greg Valentine, I would assume, is to be able to use those very heavy blows of his to wear down the American dream.
02:17Absolutely, and another thing we must watch for, of course, is that devastating leg, that left leg, where he wears that device on it, that blessed device that he refers to as the heartbreaker.
02:30And another key for Valentine is to stay away from that elbow, because as we saw right there, that was, that's very lethal.
02:38It is indeed, and just look at Dusty Rhodes, he is Americana, is he not?
02:44He really is.
02:44Now, Jimmy Hart complaining that something was in the elbow pad, and to be honest with you, the elbow of Dusty Rhodes has been his weapon for so long that by now they should know when you get the elbow, you're going to go down.
02:56Really, and the way Valentine went down there, if I were the referee, I might be inclined somewhat to inspect that elbow pad again.
03:05But Morella is very, very good at his job, Bob Morella, a tremendous referee, definitely one of our first flight.
03:12That forearm did not phase Dusty Rhodes at all, as he comes right out of the corner, after Greg Valentine, who backs away, now gets the momentum, Dusty blocked that.
03:26And that's a big forearm that time by Rhodes, in the corner, really chopped him that time.
03:32Dusty Rhodes with a great blow on the hammer, and now coming outside with him, there's that elbow again.
03:39He is obviously going to test that well-known stamina that is possessed by Greg the Hammer, Valentine, a man who the longer a match goes,
03:49the tougher he seems to get, and the stronger he seems to get, so unless Dusty Rhodes has done his homework,
03:55he better know right now that those blows are not going to have much of an effect upon him in two or three minutes' time,
04:02because he is so resilient, the Hammer, he can come at you from all angles.
04:06A little bit of showboating there by Dusty Rhodes, and too much showboating because he missed.
04:12He really did, and the Hammer gets out of it.
04:15Great selection by the fans choosing this match here, because it is really, as we anticipated, a heavy hitter's match.
04:21The Hammer now coming away with some big blows of his own, and Dusty Rhodes finding himself in trouble down on the mat.
04:28Tony, a word about that, it just shows you that sometimes the fans are really great matchmakers.
04:32This battle between the Hammer and Dusty Rhodes was a match made by the fans, and I applaud them for their choice.
04:40Here, here, on top of the head.
04:44Dusty is in trouble here.
04:48At least, it appears he is.
04:51Well, it certainly is, but he's a very tough man also, Dusty Rhodes.
04:55I've seen him in some matches that have gone more than one hour long,
04:59and he certainly has shown a lot of strength, a lot of power, and he can move around that ring when he chooses.
05:09The reverse chin lock is Jimmy Hart.
05:13I suppose I have admitted to say, as much as Greg Valentine likes a match to go a long time and get stronger and tougher with it,
05:22every moment it increases, so does Dusty Rhodes.
05:26He'd much rather be in a match that lasts a long, long time than just go in there and have a flashy match
05:32where he gets a brilliant victory in just a few minutes.
05:35Here's a great wrestler.
05:36You hear the fans and Jimmy Hart telling the fans to be quiet.
05:46Do you think they will be?
05:47No.
05:48I don't think so either.
05:50But so far, Greg the Hammer Valentine hasn't had a chance to get towards that, what do you call it,
05:58the little blessed contraption?
06:00The blessed contraption.
06:01Yes.
06:02The heartbreaker.
06:02That's right.
06:05Well, it's been all Greg Valentine.
06:07He's been counting away.
06:07Now he wants Dusty to get up, which may not be a good idea.
06:10No.
06:10Why should he get up if he's only going to get knocked down again?
06:14That's right.
06:15But Dusty may be coming back here.
06:17We've seen this before from Dusty Rhodes.
06:19He can take a tremendous beating, and all of a sudden, he can jump up.
06:22And look here.
06:24It's apparent Dusty's coming back.
06:25And now they're going toe-to-toe in the corner.
06:28And Dusty using that blistering speed that he's noted for.
06:31A tremendous dropkick.
06:33He'll throw two or three of those at you whenever your back is turned, or even face-to-face.
06:38Dusty Rhodes with a tremendous dropkick.
06:40And now look at him.
06:42Up on that middle rope.
06:43It's time to lay him in.
06:47Right on top of the head, he goes.
06:50Bury the knuckles down.
06:52Joey Morello with a warning.
06:54But Jimmy Hart has the attention of the referee, and that enables Dusty to get in a couple of more blows.
06:59Yes, and he measured every one of those blows to the head of the Hammer Valentine.
07:03In fact, I might be a little bit mistaken here, Tony, but would it be that the Hammer is actually beginning to weaken?
07:12Apparently, that's so, Alfred.
07:14The double shot from Dusty right to the chest.
07:17And what's Dusty going to do here?
07:20Could be a spinning leg lock.
07:22He's holding out the four fingers.
07:24It may be the figure four.
07:26He may be trying a figure four leg lock of his own against Greg Valentine.
07:31Looking out to the fans.
07:32Well, we certainly know that that is one of the moves he has perfected.
07:36And should he get that figure four leg lock, then this match could be history.
07:41That's exactly what it is.
07:43The figure four working around the heartbreaker, but no, Valentine raked him in the eyes.
07:48And I think he was at a disadvantage there because it appeared that the heartbreaker was on that leg,
07:53and it prevented him fully securing, putting the key on for that figure four leg lock.
07:59Look at the mouth of herself there.
08:01What an irritating figure he is.
08:04He never shuts up, Alfred.
08:05And there's a knee right to the back of the leg, the hamstring muscle, as Valentine drives him in.
08:15And now, Valentine adjusting that blessed contraption and getting ready to put on his own figure four.
08:23The heartbreaker was in.
08:24Watch out.
08:25Dusty trying to grab hold here, maybe pull him over.
08:28Valentine having trouble hooking the legs.
08:30He rolls him up.
08:31One, two, no, Valentine got out of that.
08:34And only just escaped in time.
08:37And I don't think I've seen such a clever maneuver before, such as that, perfected there by Dusty Rhodes.
08:43Well, almost perfected, I should say, because Valentine did manage to escape before the three count.
08:48And now it's conditioning that's going to pay here for Dusty Rhodes, a man who's dedicated to the gymnasium and getting himself in shape for these big matches.
08:59And look at the mouth of himself, Jimmy Hart there, urging his man on and on.
09:03It's a really hot, stuffy night here in Niagara Falls.
09:10Indeed it is.
09:11And it's affecting us all.
09:14Reverse chin lock and Dusty.
09:16Certainly you can see both athletes affected by the heat.
09:19Jimmy Hart on the run there around the ring.
09:21He wants to catch his man's view.
09:23He has certain secret signals that he sends to Greg the Hammer, although I don't know whether the Hammer can ever interpret those signals properly or not.
09:30Sometimes he's a little bit slow in that department, Tony.
09:33Speaking of that, he was a little bit slow to put on the figure four that time, and that enabled Dusty.
09:38He spent more time than usual.
09:40Yes, that's true, but he has those tremendous tree trunk-like legs, Dusty Rhodes.
09:44I would imagine it's awfully difficult to get a figure four on those.
09:48That's another good point, Alfred.
09:50You've been on the top of your game in this match, I can tell you that.
09:53Oh, you're just flattering me.
09:56The chin locks on, but look at Dusty.
09:57Once again, seemingly out of nowhere, Dusty Rhodes can come back.
10:01It's been one of his trademarks.
10:03And now the left hand, he's got great punches.
10:05The flip, flop, and fly right down on top of the head.
10:09And speaking of tree trucks, Valentine just went down like a tree.
10:13Yes, that was definitely a call for Timber there as he went down.
10:17And what an exciting, exciting match this has turned out to be.
10:20Dusty Rhodes now taking the initiative away from the Hammer, but running right into that knee.
10:26Come on, Hammer, you got him!
10:28Right to the head, Greg Valentine with the elbow blows on top of the head of Dusty Rhodes.
10:34Continuing his assault, and now a chokehold.
10:36And Valentine just letting his temper carry him away right now, Alfred.
10:40And he's in danger of being disqualified if he doesn't control that volatile temper.
10:45And Rhodes seemingly out of this match.
10:48Remember, look at this!
10:49For goodness sakes, what is going on here?
10:51This is a very brave man, I would assume.
10:54Rugged Ronnie Garvin is here!
10:58Oh, and he pulls the Mouth of the South off!
11:00Well, fortunately for the Mouth of the South, he caught, he was caught there by Ronnie Garvin.
11:04Because if he'd have fallen from that height, I don't think he would have ever.
11:07Look at this!
11:09The Hammer caught napping!
11:11He got it!
11:13Dusty Rhodes!
11:14Well, that's Americana for you, right in the middle of the ring there.
11:25But somehow or other, I have the feeling that the Hammer of Greg Valentine was robbed of a decision there.
11:32A little hasty interference from the outside.
11:34I think possibly that man should have made disqualified.
11:38What do you think, Tony?
11:39Well, it certainly was his discretion right there as Ronnie Garvin had held up the arm of Dusty Rhodes.
11:45And that just adds fuel to the fire between Ronnie Garvin and Greg Valentine.
11:50Absolutely.
11:51Mind you, of course, the very first man to get involved in that was the Mouth of South, Jimmy Hart.
11:56So maybe it wasn't such a travesty of justice after all.
12:00But a very great win there to put into the record by Dusty Rhodes.
12:04There's not many men who can say they've actually beat Valentine.
12:09And here we see a replay of that incredible gag there by Ronnie Garvin.
12:13And look at the Mouth of South, squiggling and wheeling around like an octopus.
12:17And in the meantime, Dusty from behind.
12:21The attention is all with rugged Ronnie Garvin.
12:23And the next thing Greg Valentine knows is that the hand is raised and Dusty Rhodes is the winner.
12:32A tremendous match and a great decision by the fans.
