Afghanistan’s Taliban has issued a stark warning to Pakistan after overnight airstrikes hit multiple provinces, killing at least 10 civilians — including nine children and one woman — in Khost. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the strike as a “violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty” and vowed that Kabul would “respond at the right time” if such attacks continue.
The airstrikes, which also hit Kunar and Paktika, come amid escalating cross-border tensions following a surge in attacks inside Pakistan blamed on the TTP. Islamabad claims its strikes targeted militant hideouts, while the Taliban insists the victims were civilians and that the targeted home belonged to a local man with no militant ties.

Amid months of tit-for-tat violence, analysts warn that without a credible mechanism to prevent civilian casualties and address Pakistan–TTP disputes, more airstrikes, more retaliation threats, and more suffering for Afghan civilians are likely ahead.

00:00Afghanistan's Taliban says that Pakistani forces carried out overnight
00:15airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan killing 10 civilians including nine
00:20children and one woman. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid posted on X that
00:26Pakistani aircraft bombed the home of a local civilian Waliyat Khan in the
00:31Mughalgai area of Gurbuz district in Coast Province shortly after midnight. He
00:36said the house was completely destroyed with five boys four girls and one woman
00:41killed. Mujahid called the attack a violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and
00:48warned that the Taliban government would respond at the right time if such strikes
00:53continue. Taliban officials say this marks one of the deadliest single incidents
00:58involving civilians since the latest round of cross-border tensions began. According
01:03to the Taliban the coast strike was part of a wider wave of Pakistani attacks that
01:09also hit Kunar and Paktika provinces along the border injuring at least four other
01:14civilians. The airstrikes came just hours after a suicide bombing and gun attack on
01:20Pakistan's frontier constabulary headquarters in Peshawah's Sadar area which killed at
01:26least three personnel and wounded others. Pakistani officials say they are facing a
01:31surge in attacks blamed on the Tariq A Taliban Pakistan or TTP and accused the
01:38Afghan Taliban of allowing TTP factions to operate from Afghan territory. Although
01:44Islamabad has not publicly detailed this specific operation, Pakistani security sources
01:49told regional media the strikes were aimed at TTP hideouts and foreign-sponsored
01:55terrorists not civilians. Kabul rejects that claim insisting the target was a
02:01private home and that no militants were present. The latest strikes come after
02:06months of tit-for-tat attacks and a fragile Qatar and Turkey brokered ceasefire
02:11that followed deadly clashes along the border in October which left dozens of
02:16fighters dead on both sides. At the heart of the dispute is the TTP question. Pakistan
02:23insists that the Afghan Taliban are failing to rein in and in some cases
02:27protecting TTP factions that plan and launch attacks across the border. The
02:33Taliban counter that Pakistan's security problems are internal matters rooted in
02:39its own policies and long history of supporting jihadist groups. Kabul accuses
02:44Islamabad of routinely violating Afghan airspace and of using cross-border
02:49airstrikes to project strength amid domestic instability. The killing of nine
02:55children and a woman in coast has sparked anger inside Afghanistan and renewed calls
03:00for accountability. Local communities already traumatized by decades of war now
03:06face the prospect of being caught between a state-to-state confrontation and a
03:10non-state insurgency. Unless there is a credible mechanism to investigate civilian
03:16casualties and a serious framework to address Pakistan's TTP concerns and the
03:21Taliban's sovereignty demands, analysts expect more airstrikes, more denials and more Afghan
03:28civilians caught in the middle.
