00:00I'm at the southern end of the Lower Central West Slopes and Plains Fire District, which
00:06is facing catastrophic fire conditions today.
00:09As you can probably see in here around me, that wind is starting to pick up now and that
00:14is what the Rural Fire Service is most concerned about today.
00:18Here in Tamora, we've actually had some showers of rain this morning and some thunder rumble
00:22overhead and the RFS crews in the building behind me are monitoring the landscape for
00:27lightning strikes.
00:28There are 25 schools closed across the Central West and Riverina today because of the fire
00:34conditions and today's catastrophic conditions come at a time when we're in full swing of
00:39grain harvest here in the Riverina.
00:42A lot of farmers have spent the morning in the header, out in the paddock, trying to strip
00:46off as much grain as possible before the winds pick up this afternoon and those conditions
00:51really do deteriorate.
