00:00Hello everyone, I'm Frédéric Jameus, Game Director.
00:03And I'm Kevin Chasson, level designer on Marvel Cosmic Invasion.
00:06And today we are here to do a small playthrough of one of the stages from the main game.
00:10So, let's begin!
00:13So here we're going to try the campaign and not the Arcade Mode.
00:16Arcade Mode is going to be more like a classic old-school experience
00:19while the campaign will have safe progression and maybe a smoother progression.
00:24So here you can see clearly the map selection where you can choose stages, basically.
00:32And here you can see that we're going to go in Wakanda, which is the stage of Act 1 of the game, basically.
00:39Let's begin!
00:42And here we are at the toughest part, selecting your character.
00:46So as you can see, we have a roster of 15 playable characters in the game.
00:50They all cover different playstyles, either range characters, flying characters or big brawlers.
00:57And about that, Frédéric, who's your favorite playstyle and character here in the roster?
01:02What's your pick?
01:03I like to pick up fast characters such as Black Panther and Cosmic Ghost Rider,
01:09who is just crazy in terms of the range of abilities that he possesses.
01:14And it seems that it's pretty fitting since we're going to go in Wakanda.
01:18We can see squares in the screen right now that are flashing on characters.
01:23What does that mean?
01:24So these are recommended characters for each of the stages.
01:27So therefore, if you want to, you know, explore more storyline or get like maybe extra challenges for the stages,
01:35you can pick these characters.
01:37But you don't have to play them to, you know, get a cool experience.
01:41Awesome.
01:42And clearly, Fred, don't forget that you can also change color as you're doing right now.
01:46So there's really cool palettes for each character.
01:49Yeah, let's go with the red one.
01:51Let's begin.
01:55So we can see introduction cutscene to stages, which are putting you in the mood for the action that are coming in, basically.
02:05Yeah, and it gives some context to, you know, what's happening with the whole Annihilus attack.
02:11So straight up being dropped in Wakanda, you can see a great ambience since like it's really important for us as a design team to put an emphasis on ambience and mood for levels.
02:24So right now Wakanda is being invaded by the bug invasion and aim is helping them through this little chaos here.
02:36So I'm going to try to overpower them by using also Cosmic Ghost Rider as a tag assist.
02:42As you can see, it's pretty effective.
02:45So you can summon both your character for an assist and, you know, doing different actions or simply swap between characters.
02:55And clearly here we can see that the cam blocks, which are like the arenas of the game, are really well-timed to give like a proper tempo to the encounters and make sure that the player is really engaged with the action at all time.
03:10Now I just picked up some health points.
03:16This is also a fine detail.
03:18All the pickups in the game are teamed around the level you're in, basically.
03:23So you got a little fruit here in Wakanda.
03:25And once again talking about ambience and vibe, you can see in the background that the aim soldiers are stealing some stuff from the Wakandian market.
03:33Little funny stuff happening here.
03:38I'll just pull the parry on these charging enemies.
03:44And now I can also swap in the middle of a combo just to...
03:48Oh!
03:49Nice special.
03:50Yeah.
03:53And I decided to go with a special instead of the swap.
03:56But as you swap...
03:57Well fitting.
03:58You can basically create like very effective combos.
04:03Okay, so I think Fred that it's time for me to join in.
04:07Yeah, I might need some help.
04:08So what do you think about Captain America and Iron Man?
04:12I think these are two great picks.
04:14Great!
04:15So here we are in multiplayer having already a fun time.
04:19And also the play style and the gameplay is going to adapt to the number of people that are in the session.
04:27So right now the cam block that you saw in the beginning of the level were for a single player.
04:32And now all the encounters after that I joined are going to be for multiplayer, so two and three person.
04:40Yeah, and it's always, you know, jump in, jump out gameplay either online or even offline in the same living room if you like.
04:51Or you can mix and match both, you know, players online or offline and have always an experience that, you know, you don't have to go back to the main menu and such.
05:01It's all happening in game in real time.
05:04So cool thing here, stuff happening on the play field, which are like where the player are doing cool stuff, are really connected to what's happening in the background.
05:14So you're seeing that there's a egg, like basically bug pods falling on the play field that looked like little alien eggs.
05:23And you can see in the background that the ships are dropping them onto Wakanda.
05:28A little funny scene here with little bug race.
05:33And cool thing that you can do when you choose a grounded hero and a flying hero is that you can influence what's happening on the ground lane and in the flight lane on the same time.
05:51So pretty epic moment combo that can be done here.
06:03So using Black Panther's vibranium blades, you can basically send some, not a trap, but almost like a delayed damage output where the enemy will be affected by sonic damage and basically create an opening with them.
06:22So it's pretty useful to use against tougher enemies.
06:25So basically you get a stun from the initial hit, but then afterward they are open for even more damage afterward.
06:32And you just witnessed that we changed places through the same level, which are something that we really explored to make sure that the player feel part of a bigger environment than the classic beat them up sometimes.
06:48So we really changed this, this little aspect to make sure that the player feel that there's navigation through this, these iconic places through the Marvel Universe.
06:57Yeah, the Marvel Universe is so rich and fun that we also wanted to make sure that we could explore as much as possible and, you know, go everywhere we could with every stages that we have in the game.
07:10This was something that we really brainstormed and put forward through our design decision.
07:15So it's something really great to see in action that we're really traveling through those locations that are really iconic.
07:22Oh, more pods.
07:28So these bug pods here are basically spawning enemies for as long as they are active.
07:33So you really need to get rid of them quickly.
07:35Yeah, be careful about them.
07:37Protokannon, classic move, love that.
07:43I almost got hit by that.
07:52I don't feel bad for the aim soldiers to get crushed.
07:55Oh, I got hit by the top one.
08:05Alright, another transition.
08:08So pretty excited to see who we're against for this level.
08:23Alright.
08:24Oh, box is here.
08:25Oh, you need some food?
08:26Yeah, I'll take it.
08:27That's it.
08:28There we go.
08:29Oh.
08:30There he is.
08:31Now we have Claw, who's basically taking advantage of what's happening over here too.
08:36Cannot hit it.
08:38Trigger even more chaos.
08:50Okay, I'll take care of the adds here.
08:52There we go.
08:53There's even more support.
08:54So basically, Claw right now is kind of invincible because he's not material.
08:59But fortunately, these magnets will help us bring him into his solid form.
09:10There is a game of chase.
09:12Oh, he's destroying them.
09:14Yeah.
09:15So as the fight progresses, he's going to make things a bit harder for us.
09:18Here we go.
09:20Let's stun him because he's pretty much vulnerable to sonic damage.
09:25So when designing the bosses, Fred, what was the objective with them?
09:30Like you see gimmicks that are not really proliferating into the beat them up genre.
09:35Was that like a part of the design process here at Tribute?
09:38I think every time we start a new boss fight, first we try to be as authentic as we can with the powers of the villain.
09:45So Claw obviously has this sound form in which he can transform.
09:51But also you want to make sure that players have a good time figuring out, you know, what's the trick with him.

10:00Here we go.
10:03And case resolved.
10:04So what we're witnessing now in the scoreboard, Fred, there's like max combo, scores, progression.
10:10What does that all mean?
10:11So in the game, every time you play a character, the points that you collect with him during, you know, the stages are then transferred as basically XP points,
10:21which are going to level up these characters and unlock new abilities, new HP points, more focus and such.
10:29So basically, even if you're playing arcade mode or you're playing online campaign, the progression for characters is shared between all of these modes.
10:39And you're always progressing those.
10:41So there's, you know, there's never any wasted opportunities for progression.
10:46It sounds really exciting.
10:47I'll explain it right now.
10:48So I'm really excited to level up my heroes.

10:52Well, it's pretty soon because the game, as we just announced, is coming out on December 1st, 2025.
