Judi Dench in recent days criticized the show for "crude sensationalism."
Transcript
00:00In light of the events of the last 12 months, perhaps I have more to reflect on than most.
00:09Netflix has now added a disclaimer for its trailer for season 5 of its hit drama, The Crown, noting it's a work of fiction.
00:17The disclaimer reads, inspired by real events, this fictional dramatization tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign.
00:27Although previous trailers for the series didn't come with similar language, Netflix has in the past emphasized that the show has never claimed to be a purely factual account of events.
00:37The disclaimer comes as Judi Dench earlier this week criticized the show for crude sensationalism, noting that the company should slap a more explicit disclaimer at the start of each episode.
00:48The Crown producers briefly paused filming when Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th, which was followed by an official mourning period in Britain.
00:55Season 5, with Imelda Staunton taking over the royal monarch role from Olivia Colman, starts in the early 1990s after the departure of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister, with the relationship between Princess Diana and then Prince Charles under strain.
01:10People will never understand how it's really been for me.
