00:00Netflix's royal drama The Crown is planning a second pause ahead of its third and final
00:10cast change. A spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the series will film
00:14its upcoming fifth season next year, which means it will not air until 2022. The delay is similar
00:20to the pause between the second and third seasons of the series when Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies,
00:24and Helena Bonham Carter replace Claire Foy, Matt Smith, and Vanessa Kirby as Queen Elizabeth,
00:30Prince Philip, and Princess Margaret, respectively. There was a two-year break between the airing of
00:34the second and third seasons of The Crown, with season two dropping in December of 2017
00:38and season three premiering in November of 2019. The fourth season, which is expected to drop on
00:43Netflix later this year, is expected to take place during the 1980s, introducing Princess Diana,
00:49played by Emma Corrin, and Margaret Thatcher, played by Gillian Anderson. Seasons five and six will be
00:54yet another time jump, reportedly taking the story into the 2000s. The cast of the British Royal
00:59family drama will change again between the show's fourth and fifth seasons, with Imelda Staunton
01:04set to assume the role of Queen Elizabeth and Leslie Manville to play Princess Margaret. However,
01:08it is not clear yet who will take over the role of Prince Philip. Creator Peter Morgan recently
01:13revealed that he'd returned to his original plan to have the series run for six seasons instead of an
01:18abbreviated five-season run, which he had said at the time was the perfect time and place to stop.
01:23But he did clarify, season six will not bring us any closer to present day. It will simply enable us
01:28to cover the same period in greater detail. For more on this story, head to THR.com. For the
