00:00Thank you, thank you.
00:03Hi, congratulations. Oh, right here.
00:06Yeah, there you are.
00:08Congratulations for the win, Nicoletta Morales, FF2 Media.
00:11I have to say I love the Joker so much, and part of it was because of the music.
00:15It was extremely emotional. I cried a lot watching, so I have to say that.
00:20So tell me, what was your inspiration behind creating that amazing music
00:26and then matching it with the emotions through the film?
00:29Did you go through personal emotions that you put into your music?
00:33Or what's the secret, I guess, something that we don't know that you can share with us?
00:40Well, I think for every story, you just have to try to dive into it
00:45and try to find what it is that carries the story
00:48and try to really channel how the story wants to be heard.
00:52And in this case, it was the story of this one man who was going through this excruciating journey.
00:58And I just tried as I could to imagine being inside his head
01:04and then try to imagine what that would sound like.
01:06And that was my main inspiration.
01:11Number 219 followed by 285.
01:14Thank you. Back here. Congratulations.
01:18Did you realize on stage that you were getting standing ovations
01:20from some of the biggest heavy hitters in the score film industry?
01:24I know. I saw the... You know what? It was... I mean, it's a wild moment, right?
01:32And as I hear my name and I'm kind of startled,
01:35and then I'm walking on stage and I thought, I can do this, I can do this, I can do this.
01:39And then as I got on stage and I saw everyone standing off, I just... It floored me. It really did.
01:45Well, I mean, think about it, you know, John Williams and Desplat and the whole gang.
01:51I mean, did you... Going into this and knowing about your nomination,
01:55what were your feelings about being nominated against these icons?
01:58Well, I mean, it's a little bit intimidating, I have to admit.
02:04But I mean, what has been really special about the whole process, not only tonight but also, you know,
02:11the other awards that have been leading up to this one, I've been meeting a lot of them in that journey
02:16and I've gotten to know them a little bit on this way and that's been so incredible.
02:21It's been... They are so inspiring composers and such masters of the craft
02:25and it's just been really magical to get to know them.
02:29Number 285 followed by 39.
02:33Matt Fagerholm, RogerEbert.com, congratulations.
02:36Incredible score. Thank you.
02:37I'd love to hear a bit of your response to the dance that Joaquin created as inspiration from the score
02:44and just how you thought it kind of connected to what you were originally intending for the music.
02:49Yeah. Yeah, that was magical because I wrote a lot of the music before they started shooting
02:54and then as they started shooting, they were using the music on set
02:59and the music was able to inspire Joaquin's performances and the movements of the cinematography
03:05and I didn't really know that that was going to be the process, you know.
03:10And then as Todd sent me the first dailies, this was the first scene that he sent me
03:15and it was just so, so incredible to see how Joaquin had channeled exactly what I had felt when I wrote the music
03:23and we never had a discussion about it.
03:25And it's just really magical when you can have a dialogue through your art form
03:30and not have to, you know, discuss what we're trying to do but really to be able to go from a raw emotional side.
03:36It was really beautiful. Thank you.
03:39Number 39 followed by 256.
03:42Hi. Congratulations.
03:45Lusa News Agency from Portugal.
03:47I believe you are the first solo woman to get this Oscar
03:51and so in a year where we've been talking about the lack of diversity in certain categories of nominations,
03:58how do you feel? Is this a responsibility? What do you want to say about that?
04:03I think I'm actually not the first woman to win this one.
04:06Solo, solo.
04:07I think that was the Golden Clubs. I think I'm like the third woman maybe to...
04:13First in 20 years at least. I mean, that's something.
04:16Okay, that's good. Okay.
04:18I mean, it's been, it has been a remarkable feeling for me to be, as I'm going through this journey,
04:29and I have been the first woman to win a lot of these awards that I have been winning up until now,
04:34and it has kind of poked a lot of people in.
04:39To see these statistics of awards that have been going on for like 70-something years and a woman has never won them,
04:44it makes us realize like, whoa, wait a minute, maybe there's something a little bit, you know, unbalanced going on here,
04:51and there's been a lot of conversation happening as a result of that,
04:54and it's been a real honor for me to be a part of that conversation and to be a part of opening it up
04:59and kind of, you know, just pointing out that this is a little bit silly,
05:04and we should be opening up the industry to more women.
05:09And last question, 256.
05:12Hi, this is Jennifer with Bunto Magazine Germany.
05:15I'm here in the back.
05:17There you are.
05:18Hi, congrats.
05:20So, are you staying in Berlin, or are you moving to Hollywood right now?
05:23What are you planning?
05:24No.
05:26It's, I mean, it's lovely to come here, and it's, I mean, the people here are just unbelievable,
05:31but it's not really my climate.
05:34It's a little bit too sunny for me here.
05:37I think, I think it wouldn't really suit my music to live here.
