'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' is returning to Disney+ for a second season. The streaming service renewed the series that's based on the best-selling novels of the same name by author Rick Riordan a week after the show's first season concluded. Season two will adapt the second book of the novel series, 'The Sea of Monsters,' which sends Percy and some of his fellow demigods on an oceanic quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece.

00:24The show's stars Walker Scobell, Arian Simhadri, and Lea Savee Jeffries helped spread the news
00:29on social media. And following the announcement, Jeffries, who plays Annabeth Chase, also went live

00:46Percy Jackson and the Olympians had the biggest launch to date for a Disney Plus series that's
00:51not part of either the Star Wars or Marvel universes.
00:53The show's supportive fan base was evident in the turnout at a recent fan event
00:57in Santa Monica, California, tied to the Season 1 finale.
01:01The cast told The Hollywood Reporter this about how Season 1 of the series was brought to life.
01:05They built these huge set pieces, like when we were in the underworld,
01:09I was not at all expecting them to do this.
01:11They made these massive, like, sand dunes for us to slide down into tartars into.
01:16It was, like, they brought an excavator inside the studio just to load and unload all of the sand.
01:22It was awesome.
01:23Yeah, and also, but a lot of it, like, a lot of the really big places, like,
01:27when we were in New York and a lot of that was in the volume stage and it's insane how real it looks.
01:32And Montauk Beach, all of that, that's all in the volume stage, which is crazy.
