NBC is looking to reboot one of its most successful procedurals. The network is teaming with Vin Diesel to develop a 'Miami Vice' revival.

00:06to develop a TV series based on one of the network's most successful shows. The Miami Vice

00:11project is the first to come out of Diesel's first-look deal with Universal Television.

00:15The project, which has been in the works for months, is being driven by Shauna Waterman,

00:20the former Fox broadcasting executive who now serves as head of television for Diesel's

00:24one-race television production company. Diesel and Waterman will executive produce,

00:28alongside Chris Morgan and Ainsley Davies. Peter McManus of Spike TV's The Mist will write the script.

00:34The Miami Vice reboot marks re-teaming for Morgan and Diesel, who have worked on all of the Fast

00:40and the Furious movies together. Sources tell THR that it was Diesel who came up with the idea

00:45to revive Miami Vice. The project marks Diesel's largest scripted TV project so far.

00:50Miami Vice ran for five seasons on NBC from 1984 to 1989. It starred Don Johnson as undercover

00:57detective James Sonny Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as his partner Ricardo Rico Tubbs.

01:03As they took on challenging cases, the TV series spawned a 2006 feature film take from Michael Mann

01:08that starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, which was produced by Universal Pictures.

01:12Miami Vice is the first major TV reboot to be developed for the 2018-2019 television season.

01:19Reboots continue to be in high demand for broadcast, cable and streaming outlets.

01:23Up this season are reboots of Dynasty on The CW, Roseanne from ABC, SWAT on CBS and Will & Grace from NBC.
