00:00Some 47,000 individuals across western and central Visayas and the Icaraga region have sought evacuation from Tropical Depression Verbena's menacing rains and flooding since yesterday.
00:11Still, the magnitude of the flooding problem in the hard-hit areas did not entail or merit national government intervention, as Arad Laguzad reports.
00:19Following the expected onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Verbena in parts of Visayas and Mindanao, according to the Office of Civil Defense, almost 47,000 people have been affected.
00:32OCD spokesperson Juni Castillo explained that their response clusters are already prepared, while local garment units have also conducted pre-emptive evacuations.
00:41This follows the least reduced by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the DNR, identifying barangays that are prone or at risk of flooding and landslides.
00:50According to OCD data, 19 evacuation centers are currently being used. More than 480 families are temporarily staying there.
00:58In connection with this, based on initial reports, they have not received any untoward incidents so far.
01:11He said they are still gathering more detailed specialists since the tropical cycle remains within the country.
01:32He added that Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Visayas have also been affected by the tropical cyclone.
