The Transport Workers' Union has done a deal with UberEats and Doordash to secure minimum wage for delivery workers. The agreement still needs to be approved by the industrial umpire with the union calling it a big step forward towards a fairer gig-economy.

00:23Uber Eats, its competitor DoorDash and the Transport Workers Union have struck a deal
00:28to give drivers better pay and working conditions.
00:31These workers will move to the minimum wage plus 25% for each and every hour that they work.

00:40For the workers, the fight's been eight years in the making.

00:57The two companies, Uber Eats and DoorDash, obviously support their proposal.
01:03They say it gives workers assurances while still supporting the gig economy.
01:08But it doesn't mean that these companies are going to cover the extra costs.

01:15Restaurants and the platforms themselves may also have to contribute somewhat
01:20in order to make it still an attractive enough service.
01:23Eric hopes that customers are willing to pay a little bit more for his time.
01:28That will make it a lot more relaxing and less frustrating.
