01:10For just the sixth time, Dallas is away from home.
01:14And as we settle in for Mavericks basketball,
01:16presented by Home Zone Furniture,
01:18the next step in the evolution of the 18-year-old phenom
01:22comes right here in Miami as the Mavs match up with the Heat.
01:28And hi there and welcome inside Kaseya Center
01:31along with the former All-Star guard Devin Harris.
01:34I'm Ted Emmerich, in for Mark Folliwell,
01:36Leslie McCaslin coming right up.
01:38So the Mavs are coming off a tough loss to Memphis on Saturday, Devin.
01:41And late in that game,
01:42P.J. Washington left the floor grabbing his side in some pain.
01:47Thankfully, he's good to go tonight
01:49because he has been vital to everything the Mavericks do this season.
01:53Yeah, you said it, Ted.
01:54They're going to need him in a big way.
01:55Going against this Miami team,
01:57we talk about their versatility and they like to run.
01:59So his versatility on defense is going to come into play.
02:01A lot of cross matches coming back in transition.
02:04So his ability to guard one through five is going to come into play huge.
02:07But more so offensively,
02:08the way they can play through him.
02:10They can put him in the post.
02:11They can seek mismatches.
02:12They can force double teams.
02:13That should slow the pace on Miami's side
02:15so they can get back in transition.
02:16Filling up the box score as usual.
02:19And Washington, as his teammates have noted this year,
02:22seems to be embracing his frame at 230 pounds.
02:27It's evident the kind of impact that P.J. Washington can make.
02:31As for Miami,
02:33the Heat are riding a four-game win streak.
02:35Just won in Philadelphia yesterday.
02:37And now they welcome back their all-star guard from a year ago
02:41in Tyler Hero,
02:42who missed the first 17 games because of ankle surgery.
02:45When you play with pace,
02:46you're going to get a lot of shots on offense.
02:48And when you can add to a team that's already humming that way,
02:51a former all-star,
02:52a former bucket getter,
02:53go out there and really fill it up from the perimeter,
02:56great off the dribble,
02:57you're doing okay for yourself.
02:59And obviously no Norman Powell tonight,
03:00so those shots are going to have to go somewhere.
03:03I think those shots are in good hands
03:04when you add a guy like Tyler Hero back to the fold.
03:07Miami,
03:08one of the stories of the NBA with their new high-flying style.
03:11But in the words of Miami's own Rick Ross,
03:14Dallas wants to push it as well.

08:33especially for the Mavericks here
08:34against this high-octane Miami Heat.
08:36You said it, more importantly,
08:37bringing track shoes.
08:38It's going to be a lot of transition opportunities
08:40on both ends.
08:41Two top teams and pace.
08:42They're really going to be pushing that
08:44all game long.
08:45And I think for the Mavs,
08:46Sot selection is going to really play a big part of it.

08:53That way you don't have too many cross matches.

11:05couple of threes in that opening quarter,
11:07ended up with 18 points.

11:25but you must take them when they present themselves.

11:34and keeping guys out of the paint,
11:36but if we get some threes to go early,
11:37they should loosen up that defense.
11:43And Atabayo misfires at the line to start.
11:46Well, Miami has picked up its defensive effort
11:49since Bam Atabayo returned from a toe injury.
11:54He missed six games.
11:55And in the last three with him in the lineup,
11:57it's been a very different defensive team
11:59for Eric Spolstrom.

16:55But when you've got that kind of punch off the bench, it allows you to take your offense to another level.

53:44Josh Broghammer told me one of the things that they did really well with defensive rebounds that allowed them to get those get down the court and get open looks he said the heat has a top five defense for a reason and you can see it out there they're making us play in a crowd they're also big on steel so he said we got to get out of that we got to play more off ball and we cannot turn the ball over like they did eleven times in the first half
54:08Yeah, Leslie and hanging with Miami on the glass which obviously was not the case Saturday and that loss to Memphis when they were minus twenty just minus one in that first half but yeah, David in terms of personnel the big difference in that second quarter was Daniel Gafford picking up his third person really hurt them inside but I think you know we're doing a lot of good things to hang in there only giving up nine fast break points you know holding him to 14 percent from three point lane only giving up two twenty point quarters so defensively you're doing everything
