Das Thriller-Drama Dead Man's Wire erzählt die wahren Begebenheiten einer außergewöhnlichen Geiselnahme nach: Am 8. Februar 1977 verschaffte sich Tony Kiritsis Zugang zum Büro des Präsidenten der Firma, die die Hypotheken auf sein Haus ausstellte und nahm ihn als Geisel. Als Waffe nutzte er damit eine abgesägte Schrotflinte, deren Abzug mit einem "Dead Man's Wire" verbunden war – und die einen Schuss abgeben würde, sollte Kiritsis sterben oder die Verbindung getrennt werden.
