We're doing rescue watercraft operator training today.
00:05
We've been doing some theory this morning and we're about to head out onto the water
00:11
to start running through some of the practical activities that we need to do for search and rescue.
00:16
So with these it's competency based training.
00:19
So we have a training program which will go for a few weeks on that.
00:23
The guys get comfy with it, they'll become very familiar with the craft.
00:27
It's also not just about riding them, it's about preparation, looking after them,
00:31
cleaning them up and having them rescue ready for the next crews that come in.
00:35
The next part about it is we're here to help people be able to get through the courses.
00:40
So some may be able to do it a little bit quicker than others.
00:43
Some might be more advanced with it.
00:46
So with that, being competency based training, we only send out those competent operators at the time.
00:52
And if it takes twice as long, we'll work with them to get them through.
00:56
Our rescue watercrafts are rapid response.
00:59
So we try and get them out first of all while our vessels are getting ready
01:03
and stabilise the casualty or a vessel and then we'll get our big vessel out to meet them.
01:09
Technically they're used for a 0.5 nautical mile from the bar or harbour,
01:14
but we can use them anywhere that we need to go into searches.
01:16
So especially in this area here, up and around the North Durris area in Richmond,
01:21
there's areas in there where these vessels can't get into.
01:25
So what we're trying to achieve is being able to get into the beaches
01:28
and closer off into the shorelines there and cover off a greater search area
01:32
that would normally not be covered off by these size vessels.
01:35
So these allow us to get into much shallower water.
01:38
One of the things that with these particular types of assets is that they're easily transportable.
01:43
So I might have a search all the way down in Bermagui and we can actually transfer these assets down there readily.
01:50
These are SeaDoo as a model and these will do anywhere up to about 80 km an hour.
01:58
So that's part of the rapid response.
02:01
And we can have either one operator on them or two operators depending on what the incident is.
02:10
And we have the rescue sled on the back.
02:13
So we put the casualty onto there and get into the surf zone as well.
02:17
And we can have either one operator on them or two operators depending on what the incident is.
02:22
And we have the rescue sled on the back so we put the casualty onto there and get into the surf zone as well.
02:31
And pick patients up from there.
02:33
I'm actually really excited about getting onto it.
02:35
There's a fair degree of apprehension as well because they are very, how would I say,
02:41
a unique type of operation and the area of operation that they're going to be doing.
02:46
So these type of vessels that we're standing on right now,
02:49
we would normally try and avoid the bigger swells and the bigger breaking waves.
02:53
Whereas these guys are actually going to be going and operating in those conditions.
02:57
And that's what they're designed for.
02:59
Because they need a certain amount of balance and coordination and fitness.
03:06
So we need people to do a 200m swim in less than five minutes.
03:09
And then other activities that we go along for the trainings.
03:14
They're very zippy.
03:15
So the whole thing about them, they need a fast acceleration with them as well.
03:18
Because you can get into trouble easy with them.
03:21
But they're also being designed so that you can get out of trouble quickly with them as well.
03:25
So being able to turn on a dime and being able to press that throttle,
03:29
get through a breaking wave is probably the thing that's going to save them.
03:32
and to save them.
03:33
So, yeah, you can see how many things are going to save them.
03:34
And that's going to be a very easy to have to keep them off for the grid.
03:39
So, the reason we need to do this, that's going to save them.
03:42
So, I think that's going to be a very useful, a way to go through the Aim for them.
03:44
And that's going to be it, that's going to be something to take them off for their own time.
