ITL runs through the best moments from the mini bye week
Transcript
00:00What did you do? What did you do with your mini buy? 713-572-4610? Because there's a lot of freedom. You started talking about it, how there was a level of freedom going into this weekend. Obviously, the Texans already out of the way, but not just that, getting a win, a big win, probably the best win of the season, maybe even you could call it a staple or like a, you know, a statement win of the season for them. That was out of the way for you.
00:22You're an Aggie fan. Your team was playing Sanford, so that was a bye week as well. Man, like, what did you do with yourself? How did you enjoy yourself? What did you get into?
00:31That's what I'm saying. No pressure on the Texans. Realistically, no pressure on the Aggies. You know, they got to 11-0, which, by the way, 11-0, man.
00:39Congratulations, man. Setting up a pretty big weekend, though. Pretty big weekend. We'll get to that as we move forward, of course.
00:45Are they playing Friday or are they playing Saturday?
00:47Friday, 7.30 at night. Not that I've already marked that on my calendar, so to speak. And then you're watching, even watching the NFL games, you're more just, like, curious.
00:59Because we kept going back and forth. You want the Colts to win or you want the Chiefs to win? In honesty, in all honesty, it really didn't matter.
01:06Oh, yeah, that was a win-win circumstance for the Texans.
01:09Yeah, so you're kind of like, but then once the Chiefs came back and you see the standings, and we're going to get into that today, no doubt, you're like, okay.
01:17But it could have gone, I would have felt the same way had the Colts won. Like, okay, you get the Chiefs now, and they're out.
01:21Yeah.
01:21You know, pretty much.
01:22I really want to talk about that.
01:23Yeah.
01:24I really want to talk about the game. We will hear in a second. But I want to start with the fact that, did you guys feel as easy on Saturday?
01:31Not just, like, about the Texans, but I was like, yo, I don't think I've watched football in this way in a little while.
01:37Like, I felt like not only could I watch as much football as I wanted to, I could just be a football glutton.
01:43Yeah.
01:43I got deeper into the games than I thought I would, right? Like, I think that some people can view, my team's not playing, I can kind of chill.
01:50Like, I think, Figgy, you might have gone that way. We were talking this morning. It sounded like you took some naps.
01:54Yeah, yeah.
01:55I was chilling. I did a lot of binge watching. I caught up on Landman, so I'm good to go.
02:00Oh, good.
02:01Yeah, so I ended up binge watching another show. So, yeah, no, I kind of took that advantage.
02:07Well, I ended up taking advantage of going fishing Saturday morning, and I had my screen on right in front of the helm there on my boat.
02:16So I was watching some of the early Aggies and some of the early college football.
02:19I was wondering if you would actually watch the Aggies or if you would just be like, this one's, we're good here.
02:22Just checking in on a bunch. But I actually was off the water by the good games, you know, the 230 games and all that.
02:27And so, yeah, no, it was very much chill the way you talked about. At the same time, you could do some other stuff.
02:34Figgy was talking about binge watching and all that. You know, I have one of my sons going out of town for Thanksgiving, so we had that Thanksgiving last night.
02:41Oh, y'all did an early Thanksgiving.
02:43Just his family, him and his wife and the little girl.
02:46That's cool.
02:46So that was, yeah, I made a little Chateau Briand from scratch. He's a good cook, too.
02:50Who? I don't even know. Like, I don't know.
02:53I think he said something about a brioche bun. I don't know.
02:56Yeah, I think he said something in French.
02:57Chateau Briand.
02:59Okay.
02:59You never had that?
03:01Brother, I don't even know what that is.
03:03I'm only half convinced it's a food at this point.
03:07Sounds like some people.
03:08I saw some wine.
03:08Yeah, right. Who knows?
03:10Sounds like some people was doing some entertainment purpose only, you know, exchanges of money.
03:16Oh, that was a good weekend for that.
03:18Because that's what kept me invested. I'm glad they brought that up.
03:20Really?
03:21Just a little bit here and there, and then you're invested in the game.
03:23A little bit of plays, yeah.
03:24You know, you're more invested in the game.
03:26Somebody said, watch the Rockets lose.
03:28Yeah, that's one way of characterizing that Friday night NBA Cup game.
03:32There's some conversation to be had there.
03:34Rockets get a real test, and interestingly enough, it might say something that a lot of people in the NBA have been talking about,
03:42where it's in the West or really just championship contenders in general.
03:45It is two teams in the Thunder and then the Nuggets, and then everybody else is on the outside looking in.
03:51The Rockets probably the next of that.
03:53That might have been a takeaway from that game on Friday.
03:55We were texting about it Friday night as we're watching this game, you here and me down in Aransas Pass.
04:00Oh, that's where you were?
04:00Yeah, because I was fishing the next morning.
04:02And so we're watching it, and I'm watching it down there, and I think I texted you.
04:07They're just like if you have a dial, and you're clicking the – you know, it's a click dial, and you click, click, click.
04:12Sorry.
04:13Yeah.
04:13I'm only used to touch screens.
04:15What is that?
04:15They're just like dials.
04:17Like the old school radio boards, you know?
04:19They're just one.
04:20The whomst?
04:21Yeah.
04:22He's like when I used to call people, you used to use the rotary.
04:25They're just one click behind those two teams.
04:29I think just one click.
04:30They're almost there, but how do you get there?
04:32You know, how do you get that?
04:33They make that extra move.
04:34Yeah, and of course, there are some missing pieces on both sides in that game.
04:37Christian Brown didn't play for them.
04:39Obviously, Tari Eason was not in there for the Rockets.
04:42But yeah, that was an interesting game.
04:43We had a lot of fun things to watch, and I don't know that – correct me if I'm wrong.
04:48Was there a game that was more fun to watch from this perspective than Colts, Chiefs?
04:53Because you were talking about it.
04:54We were wondering who you should be rooting for.
04:56I think that there was largely a win-win to some degrees, and I mean, I think there was people on either side.
05:00But the lack of pressure for the Texans' side watching that game, and then also the caliber of game, plus I think the takeaways from the game made it just exquisite football watching on a mini-bye week.
05:13Yeah, how so?
05:14All right, so first and foremost, and we could dig into this.
05:17We will talk more about this as we'll go around the AFC South in the next segment, or we can talk about some of the fallout.
05:22But that Colts offense is not the same Colts offense that we were seeing to start the year.
05:28And I think some people were kind of cautioning folks looking at that team and being like, look, that team ain't as good as you were purporting it to be.
05:36That is a Colts offense that only threw for – actually, and that's not correct because my box score is not completely updated, but they only threw for, what, 181 yards?
05:45Jonathan Taylor ran for all of 58 yards on 3.6 yards per carry.
05:50Like, that's an offense that had been doing some phenomenal stuff there for that Colts team.
05:56Obviously, a Chiefs defense that is pretty solid, but that offense did not look nearly as good as it had been.
06:02And that's probably a good thing.
06:03That bodes well for you, the Houston Texans, going in with a better defense than that Chiefs team, facing off against an offense that that's one of the reasons why they've been really good this year.
06:11Well, it's funny you say that because that's another part of watching the games this weekend.
06:15You kind of see – you kind of project your squad against that team.
06:20Sure.
06:21And the Chiefs defense against that team, without the pass rush that the Texans have, had a lot of success.
06:28And the Texans play the Colts this weekend.
06:30We're going to get into it, of course, all the way along, but that's how I was looking.
06:33I was like, okay, they're really good.
06:36I mean, don't get me wrong.
06:37The Colts, they had that game.
06:38They're up 20-9, man.
06:39You know, they were up pretty significantly in this game, late in the game.
06:44But they're not a beast.
06:47You know, they're not the big, bad wolf.
06:49And then on the other side, the Chiefs, who get the win there, it still didn't feel like they got it figured out.
06:54Like, as much as they got that win, and interestingly enough, I've said it a few times, this feels like the same team as last year for the Chiefs, just more unlucky.
07:04Yeah.
07:04They found a way to get it done at the end, which maybe that ends up taking you to a place where you go, oh, here they go again.
07:09But it just felt like the Colts stopped running the football.
07:13The Colts kind of got into their shells.
07:15And the Chiefs really did not break this thing open.
07:17The Chiefs weren't effective in the red zone in this game.
07:21They did get some really good run performance from one Kareem Hunt.
07:26Bad fumble, but yes.
07:27Yeah, bad fumble.
07:28A lot of yardage.
07:29But also, it took them just pounding the rock.
07:32He carried the ball 30 times in that football game.
07:34So, like, still looking at the Chiefs, I also didn't see a team that was overwhelming.
07:40And those are your next two opponents.
07:41Like, I looked at both of these teams.
07:43Now, of course, they're playing each other.
07:44But I was like, yeah, none of this feels particularly overwhelming.
07:48Both of them, like, either way, whichever team won, you can make an argument that it had some level of benefit for the Texans.
07:55Ultimately, the Chiefs win, and that gives the Texans only, puts them only two games behind the Colts, a team that you will play two times.
08:02And so, you have an opportunity to control your own destiny and claw your way back alongside them.
08:07And then, obviously, getting the tiebreaker there.
08:09But, yeah, man, I thought that that was the reason why.
08:11It was a fun football game.
08:13Neither of the teams looked like they were, like, dominant to where it created any additional concerns for the upcoming matchups against the Texans.
08:20I thought this was perfect.
08:21Perfect game for a mini-bye week.
08:23Now, let me ask you guys both this about the so-called mini-bye week here.
08:27There's nothing better than having a team that you are all in on, whether it's the Aggies, Texans, whomever.
08:35But isn't there something to be said for just watching the games with no real interest?
08:39Without question.
08:39Three things came to mind.
08:41Okay.
08:42You meant, well, four, including what you just mentioned.
08:44But, you know, the Colts and Chiefs, I was just watching this like, all right, and then going the other side and just kind of going back and forth.
08:49And we're going to get into this around the NFL, but this is something that occurred to me as I'm watching football with no real interest.
08:56The Dallas Cowboys.
08:57Dude, let's talk about it.
08:58We don't have to wait for around the NFL.
08:59Everybody says it.
09:01It was proved again yesterday.
09:03The league is just more interesting when the Cowboys are good.
09:07It's a cliche.
09:08People have said it so many times that it's become a cliche.
09:11But you know what?
09:13The NFL is better when the Cowboys are interesting.
09:16It just is.
09:17I'm sorry, I hate that team.
09:18But I was like, uh-oh, George Pickens.
09:21Good lord.
09:22Yeah, he's really good at football.
09:23The fun thing with the George Pickens thing, to get deep into the weeds there, is Jerry Jones still has a little level of conversation within this.
09:32I think they gave up a third round and a fifth round pick in order to acquire him.
09:36And that feels like, hey, a steal.
09:39That dude might be there.
09:40You could have got a little more.
09:40He's probably their best receiver.
09:41Because C.D. Lamba was over there being a little bit of a head case dropping footballs and then complaining about the quarterback.
09:46While George Pickens is over there just getting yards.
09:48I mean, he was just ripping the ball loose on everybody.
09:51The problem, if you choose to look at it that way for the Cowboys, he is not under contract.
09:57So, like, he's doing all this.
09:59And all that, like, if you are indeed a Cowboys fan, you're probably looking at this like, yeah, this is good.
10:03And at the back of your head is like, how much do we have to pay him?
10:06I was just watching.
10:08Or we know how this is going to go.
10:10All throughout next offseason and all this other stuff.
10:14He's going to get franchise tag.
10:16I just hate to admit it, but, man, I'm really – I can't wait to see him again.
10:21Dude.
10:21You know, I can't wait to see him again, see what happens.
10:23That's been a really good offense.
10:24And the playoffs and – well, playoffs.
10:27But we'll see.
10:27That's going to be a question for them.
10:28What are they, 5-5-1 now?
10:30Can they make a playoffs over there in the NFC?
10:32It does feel like that defense actually has started coming around.
10:36Because that defense was atrocious.
10:37Aren't the two teams that are not really real good with their record,
10:41but kind of nobody wants to face right now, the Cowboys and the Texans?
10:45Yeah, in different ways.
10:47I see that.
10:48I mean, the Texans, absolutely.
10:50I'll be nervous if I was in the NFC to face the Cowboys in the playoff game.
10:53Right.
10:54And the Texans, of course.
10:55We talked about it all day Friday.
10:56The only thing with the Cowboys is that offense supposedly a lot better at home
11:01versus than on the road.
11:02We'll see.
11:03But, yeah, we will see.
11:04I want to find out.
11:05Are you going to take Pickens with you?
11:07Well, yes.
11:08Well, is he going to stay out late the night before?
11:11That's the question.
11:11We're not talking about the first series.
11:14That's the question there.
11:15But, again, depending on how you feel about the Cowboys,
11:18you'll be watching them again next week because they're playing the Chiefs.
11:20I think that that's going to be, actually, next week, Thursday, right,
11:23on Thanksgiving, where we are all subjected to Cowboys football.
11:26Right?
11:27I think that you have a little bit more interest in that this Thursday
11:30because you get another look at this opponent that you will be seeing very soon thereafter.
11:34The only thing I'm worried about is the Cowboys fans.
11:37They're just going to be so insufferable again, which is why we hate them.
11:40I mean, I'm already seeing it, you know, all over, and I'm like, oh.
11:44It's a love-hate relationship.
11:45It's also a setup for the funny thing.
11:48Yeah, the fall.
11:48But, yeah, get the hopes up, and then all of a sudden here come the Cowboys
11:51doing something that only the Cowboys can do, which is falling off the roof.
11:55I ain't going to lie.
11:55I kind of enjoyed them coming back and winning this game just to see Eagles fans
12:00just overreact.
12:01I don't even know if it's an overreaction, but just their team being 8-3
12:06and how the world is over now.
12:08Who, the Eagles?
12:10Yeah.
12:11And, you know, the other –
12:11I don't know if it's an overreaction, man.
12:13Like, they're in the locker room.
12:14I mean, is it over at this point?
12:16It's not over.
12:16It's not over, but that Eagles team, like, the offense is a capital-P problem.
12:21Right, right.
12:22Like, that offense is an issue.
12:25Saquon Barkley has had as many negative rushes as was my man in Las Vegas.
12:32Ashton Gentry?
12:32Yeah.
12:33Behind that terrible offense?
12:34Like, that has been it.
12:35They are in third and long all the time.
12:37All the time.
12:38Like, they are trying to throw the football consistently in a way that they can't.
12:41What's going on with Hurts?
12:42You know, they say it's his offense.
12:44I don't know what's going on there.
12:46But, shoot, they was winning in this game.
12:48I thought they were going to win this game.
12:4921 to nothing and got walked down.
12:51Yeah.
12:52Yeah.
12:52And then the other couple things that, again, just fun when you don't really have a root,
12:56you know, and totally invested in a squad.
12:58I was hate watching J.J. McCarthy like a mofo, man.
13:01Oh, is that what you were doing?
13:03And love watching Jameis Winston.
13:06Like, it's just –
13:07That brother caught a touchdown, man.
13:09Then he did the little Motown dance at the end.
13:13So, Jameis being Jameis.
13:15You said Jameis caught a touchdown.
13:17Jameis Winston caught a touchdown through contact and was able to keep himself upright.
13:21Well, let me change that.
13:22He caught a pass, ran for a touchdown, and broke some tackles, by the way, and got into
13:28the end zone.
13:28Yeah.
13:29Can I ask you guys a question that sounds unserious, but please understand, I am 100%
13:34dead-ass serious.
13:36Are we sure Jameis Winston isn't a tight end?
13:39Are we sure he's not a – because you got the full spectrum of Jameis Winston in that
13:43game.
13:44Jameis Winston threw a pretty terrible interception.
13:46He had, like, a whole – I think it was, like, 10-plus 20-yard – passes 20 yards down
13:51the field to, like, airing that thing out.
13:53He caught a pass, took it for a touchdown.
13:55Like, you got the whole gamut of Jameis Winston.
13:57His pregame speech was on point.
13:59Pregame speech, celebration day, but we inside.
14:02But we inside.
14:03I'm like, I'm tired of seeing all the Taysom Hill.
14:07Can we get some Jameis Winston Swiss Army knife?
14:10I, like, I actually would want to see – I feel like he might be – because he
14:13has health.
14:14Is he fast enough, though?
14:16He showed it on that play.
14:17Not all tight ends are fast.
14:18But he was pretty quick down that side.
14:20Oh, okay.
14:21He was picking up them feet.
14:22Yeah, he was.
14:22Because I think about him scrambling all the time, and he ain't that fast scrambling.
14:26Watch the replay.
14:26Yeah, he was.
14:27Yeah, no, he was on that play.
14:29Yeah, and then the last thing, please save Miles Garrett, somebody.
14:34Somebody, please save him.
14:36Please.
14:36Save him from what?
14:37From the Browns.
14:38The only saving that's happening is at his bank account.
14:41He's doing all right.
14:42He's doing all right.
14:43He's good.
14:44Good Lord.
14:44He's got 14 sacks, what, the last –
14:46In the last five weeks.
14:47That's correct.
14:47Five weeks.
14:47He has 18 sacks through how many games?
14:50Yeah.
14:5111.
14:51Was it 11 games?
14:52Brother, he's going to blow that sack record out the water.
14:55Okay.
14:55Are you kidding me?
14:56Put it this way.
14:57He's got 14 sacks the last five games, which would be tied for the lead if he only played
15:03those five games.
15:05Like for the season.
15:06Yes.
15:07Correct.
15:08It would be tied for the lead.
15:09Well, at least they won.
15:10They won.
15:10Yeah, there you go.
15:11Yeah, you talking about save him after – like there's been instances where there's been
15:14very much more SEAL Team 6 missions necessary for Miles Garrett.
15:18This one was fine, but otherwise, like somebody said proverbial hell for him.
15:23Let him stay there.
15:24But, yeah, what a fun weekend for the Texans to have already done their thing, a college football
15:31weekend that if you wanted to tap in, you couldn't.
15:33If you didn't, you're 100% fine.
15:35Like I imagine that some people got some real good honeydew in on Saturday.
15:39Sunday, you got some entertaining football as well.
15:42And ultimately, it's still a happy reaction Monday because your Texans looking at the playoff
15:48race, they're constantly on that in the hunt graphic.
15:51Unfortunately, they didn't get much help in the wild card.
15:54The Jags win.
15:55The Chiefs win.
15:56The Ravens win.
15:57There's a bunch of teams there still in that love.
16:00Pittsburgh lost too, man.
16:02Yeah, Pittsburgh lost, but now they're another team that –
16:04They're in that –
16:05Yeah, they might be in that wild card conversation.
16:09Well, as of right now, the Ravens are at the top in the AFC North, but still, like they
16:13didn't get any help there, but still, a fun weekend of good football, and I think you
16:17could see things that give you some light and some opportunity to dream when it comes
16:22to playoffs with the Texans –
