00:00Olivia Munn has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy.
00:05The actress shared the health update in an Instagram post where she explained that this
00:09past winter she had a normal mammogram and then two months later she found out she had breast
00:13cancer. She wrote, in the past 10 months I've had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can't
00:19even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could
00:23have imagined. Surprisingly I've only cried twice. I guess I haven't felt like there was time to cry.
00:28My focus narrowed and I tabled any emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay
00:33clear-headed. The actress also revealed that had it not been for her OBGYN deciding to calculate her
00:38breast cancer risk assessment score, she may not have discovered her cancer for another year.
00:43She explained that the doctor looked at factors including her age, familial breast cancer history
00:47and the fact that she had her first child after the age of 30. The doctor discovered Munn's lifetime
00:51risk was 37% and as a result of that score sent her to get an MRI which led to an ultrasound and
00:58then a biopsy that showed she had luminal B cancer in both breasts. Munn noted that this type of cancer
01:03is aggressive and fast moving. She wrote, 30 days after that biopsy I had a double mastectomy.
01:09I went from feeling completely fine one day to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery
01:13the next. I'm lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman
01:18who might have to face this one day. Munn also shared this video.
01:21You're right. This is nothing. You're right.
01:23You know, I feel like you thank you so much.
01:27The actress concluded her post by thanking her friends, family, and doctors. She also took a
01:32moment to thank her partner and son Malcolm's father, John Mulaney. She wrote,
01:37I'm so thankful to John for the nights he spent researching what every operation and medication
01:41meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect. For being there before I went into each
01:46surgery and being there when I woke up. Always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm
01:50so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes. Mulaney commented on Munn's post writing,
01:55thank you for fighting so hard to be here for us. Malk and I adore you.
