Updated UFC Pound-For-Pound Rankings after UFC 322! Islam Makhachev becomes the new #1 P4P fighter after his two-division championship performance, but Ilia Topuria at #2 has an argument. Breaking down the entire top 10 with explanations for every placement.

One fighter drops out, one enters - here's the complete UFC P4P men's rankings!

🏆 UFC POUND-FOR-POUND RANKINGS (MEN'S) - POST UFC 322:
#1: ISLAM MAKHACHEV (NEW #1)
Two-division champion. Elite resume. Beat Alex Volkanovski when they were #1 and #2 P4P.
Why he's #1:

Dominated Jack Della Maddalena for 25 minutes at 170
Beat Volk (then P4P #1)
If everyone was the same weight, Makhachev is suplexing everyone
Him and Khamzat would dominate with wrestling/grappling
That good.

#2: ILIA TOPURIA
In almost ANY other era, Topuria's resume would have him at #1.
The Topuria Case:

Dominance in TWO weight classes
Elite level victories
Spectacular finishes
Undefeated

Why he's #2: He has to be because Makhachev's resume + two-division status is just slightly better. But this is CLOSE.
#3: MERAB DVALISHVILI
I slept on this guy for a while. Not anymore.
Why Merab is Top 3:

The talent
The pace
The cardio
The EVERYTHING he puts together
Deserving of top 3 P4P status

#4: KHAMZAT CHIMAEV
Dominant 185-pound champion.
Should have been here earlier, honestly. But he's here now and probably sticking around for a while.
#5: TOM ASPINALL
Undisputed heavyweight champion now.
UFC 321 was a dud (eye injury situation) but can't take anything away from him. He's been knocking out the best of the best at heavyweight.
#6: ALEX PEREIRA
205-pound champion. Two-division champion. Elite level striker.
The Pereira Paradox:

Loss to Ankalaev bumps him from elite tier
But still incredible talent
Should get heavyweight run (disappointed he hasn't yet)
Lot of fun still to come

#7: ALEXANDRE PANTOJA
Dominant over everyone at 125 pounds.
Could be seeing a difficult challenge soon, but so far he's beaten everyone put in front of him.
#8: ALEX VOLKANOVSKI
One of the great fighters of all time.
Had banana peels along the way (losses to Islam, etc.) but getting the 145-pound championship back puts him at #8.
#9: MAX HOLLOWAY
Perpetually in P4P top 10.
Why he's back:

Win over Dustin Poirier
Always near the top
Proven excellence at 145

Why he's not higher: Volkanovski is still ahead of him.
#10: MAGOMED ANKALAEV
Yes, he lost to Pereira after beating him previously.
Why he stays in:

Has that win over Pereira when Pereira was P4P great
Solid resume
Deserves to stay for now

DROPPED OUT:
Jack Della Maddalena - After title loss to Islam
Why JDM is out:

Very solid, talented fighter
But didn't have resume for top 10
Was here because he was champion
10 spots should have most champions
Post-loss, resume doesn't justify top 10

00:00It is pound for pound rankings time coming out of UFC 322. Let's take a look at the updated
00:22rankings, shall we? So first of all, Jack Della Maddalena drops out of the pound for pound
00:29rankings after his title loss against Islam Akachev. I think that JDM is a very solid
00:36fighter and a very talented one, but he didn't really have the resume to get into the top
00:4210 anyway. He was kind of here because he was the champion and 10 spots, you should have
00:47the champions represented, at least most of them. And so I put him in, I don't think you
00:50can now, coming off of that loss. He just doesn't have the resume to crack the top 10.
00:54In at number 10, Magomed Ankulaev. Yes, losing to Pereira after a big victory against him,
01:01but he still has that win over him at a time where Pereira was one of the pound for pound
01:05greats. So you have to keep Ankulaev in there for a bit. At number nine, I have Max Holloway
01:12checking in. He comes in for JDM. Holloway perpetually toward the top of this and always in the top
01:1910, pound for pound. Coming off of that win over Dustin Poirier, it gets him back into these
01:24conversations. The reason he's not higher is because of a number eight fighter, Alex Volkanovski,
01:29who has had a couple of banana peels along the way, but is still one of the great fighters of all time.
01:34Getting that championship back at 145 pounds puts him at number eight. At seven, it is Pantoja,
01:42who is just dominant over everyone in his weight class. Would love to see, and could be seeing soon,
01:48a difficult challenge for him, but so far he's beaten everyone that's been put in front of him.
01:53At six, it is Pereira, the 205 pound champion. I think the world of the talent of this guy,
02:01a loss against Ankulaev kind of bumps him out of that elite level, but still, I think he should
02:07get a run at heavyweight. I think he should get a run at the heavyweight belt, and I'm a little
02:10disappointed he hasn't to this point, but we could be seeing a whole lot of fun from this guy soon in
02:15the resume. Two-division champion, elite level striker, he deserves to be up here. At five,
02:19it's Tom Aspinall, a dud of a championship fight at UFC 321 with the eye injury situation,
02:26but can't take anything away from this guy. He has been knocking out the best of the best at
02:31heavyweight. Now, the undisputed heavyweight champion, he comes in at five. At four, Hamzat
02:36Chemaev, just a dominant figure at 185 pounds, now with the championship, and so honestly,
02:43he probably should have been up here a while ago, but he's here now for a couple of additions
02:48of the pound-for-pound rankings, and is probably going to stick around for a while. At three,
02:53it is Murab Devalishvili. I slept on this guy for a while. The talent, the pace, the cardio,
03:01the everything that he can put together, I think he is deserving of being a top three fighter in the
03:07pound-for-pound rankings. At two, there is almost no other era where the resume that Ilya Teporia
03:14has put together would have him as the number two fighter. When you think about the fighters he has
03:18defeated, and the dominance that he has shown in now two different weight classes, there aren't
03:25many times where someone who has that kind of a resume ends up at number two in the pound-for-pound
03:30rankings, but he has to, because the new number one, once again, is Islam Akachev, who has an elite
03:36level resume, beat Alex Volkanovski when they were one and two in the pound-for-pound rankings,
03:42and now a two-division champion. You have to give him this number one spot, and I think if you did
03:48one of the classic tropes that people talk about with pound-for-pound rankings, and you made everyone
03:52the same weight, I think it's Makachev and Chemayev who are suplexing guys all over the place and winning
03:59those fights. I think Makachev is that good, and that's why he is number one on the pound-for-pound rankings
04:04for me on the men's side in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
