00:00The Department of Science and Technology featured innovations of local textile and footwear sector

00:05during the final leg of Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week, or RSTW 2025.

00:12From the use of fibers from banana, cotton and pineapple,

00:16to the strengthening of research efforts on sustainable production,

00:20one of the highlights in the event is the partnership between DOST

00:24and Philippine Textile Research Institute to boost local shoe industry

00:28and widened market of tropical fabrics.

00:32Among the featured innovations is the use of tropical fabrics for disaster risk reduction,

00:37including the development of geotextiles to help against erosion and landslide.

00:42DOST stressed the value of circular economy,

00:46where agricultural byproducts from fruits like banana and pineapple

00:50are used to increase income of farmers and generate livelihood for weavers and manufacturers.
