00:00Selena Gomez is set to play singer-songwriter Linda Ronstadt in a new biopic.
00:05Gomez will star as the 11-time Grammy winner in a feature that's in the works from producers James Keech of Walk the Line and Ronstadt's manager John Boylan.
00:13Ronstadt and Gomez, who are both of Mexican descent, previously met at the former's home to discuss the project,
00:18according to a note on the website for Boylan's company Great Eastern Music.
00:22A director and additional cast members of the biopic have yet to be announced.
00:25A distributor also doesn't appear to be on board yet.
00:28Gomez first teased the film on Tuesday by sharing a photo of Ronstadt's 2013 memoir Simple Dreams to her Instagram story.
00:35Simple Dreams is also the name of Ronstadt's 1977 album that has been certified triple platinum and featured the song Blue Bayou.
00:47Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and is known for her music career that includes 24 studio albums,
00:54as well as the number one hit You're No Good.

01:02Ronstadt, now age 77, has been diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy,
01:07a degenerative disease that has led her to retire from singing.
01:10Gomez, herself a two-time Grammy nominee, is known for her success in music as well as acting.
01:15She currently stars on the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building,
01:18and had her ninth top 10 entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with her contribution to last year's remix of the song Calm Down.
