00:00The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants cast almost looked a little different.
00:04It may be difficult to imagine the film without America Ferreira, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively,
00:10and Amber Tamblyn, but there were other stars that actually came close to landing the roles
00:14of Carmen, Lena, Bridget, and Tibby in the hit film. During a recent interview on the
00:19Hollywood Gold podcast, veteran producer Debra Martin-Chase recalled what went into casting
00:24the 2005 film. She said Ferreira, who played Carmen, was the first one cast and noted she
00:29was still very much a newbie at the time. The Princess Diaries producer also revealed
00:33that they were going to cast The O.C.'s Misha Barton in Lively's role of Bridget and have
00:38Smallville's Kristen Crook play Bledel's character Lena, but when production got delayed, both
00:42actresses were busy filming their respective shows. Chase said they went to Alexis early
00:47on for Lena, but she initially passed. She was still doing Gilmore Girls. She was tired
00:52and she passed, and then we kept looking. The producer noted they went to everyone from
00:56Kaley Cuoco, Alexa Vega, and Olivia Wilde. At that point, Amber Tamblyn, who played Tibby,
01:01was on Joan of Arcadia, so she was a big deal. We wanted real actors. They had to fulfill
01:06the roles. They had to embody the roles. Chase said finding the right actress for Bridget
01:10seemed to be the most difficult because they needed someone who had the innocence and the
01:14athletic skills, with no luck until Lively came in for an audition. The Cheetah Girls producer
01:19thought Lively was perfect, but not enough experience.
01:22She handed us her headshot and it was completely blank. She had never worked. She had never
01:27gotten a paycheck. You know, she's from an acting family. But despite that, the role was
01:31still hers. Elsewhere on her podcast appearance, Chase noted that she would love to make a third
01:36sisterhood of the Traveling Pants with the original cast. I think, you know, time has gone by and
01:40the audiences still very much want it. So maybe. For more on this story, head to THR.com.
