CFMEU NSW deputy executive Chris Christodoulou speaking about the death of union member, Jack McGrath, who was killed at BlueScope on November 17, 2025. Footage by CFMEU
00:00My name's Chris Christodoulou and I'm the Deputy Executive Officer of the CFMEU Construction and General Division, New South Wales Branch.
00:08I'm here at Blue Scope Steel because a member of the CFMEU, a young man, Jack McGrath, lost his life in a terrible incident.
00:18Faith Work are carrying out a thorough investigation as to exactly what happened and who was at fault.
00:27The CFMEU will, of course, do our own investigation and drill down to ensure that this never happens again on a construction site within Blue Scope Steel.
00:41What we have been doing in the last 24 hours is providing support to our members that witnessed the fatality, support to workers who were Jack's best friends and, of course, we've reached out, most importantly, to Jack's family.
01:00We'll provide Jack's family all the support that's necessary to help them get through this very, very traumatic event.
01:10I'd call upon all CFMEU members to open your hearts to Jack's family.
01:17Certainly get collections going on your work site as you want to support the family through this very difficult period.
01:24Every death in this industry is an unacceptable death and the CFMEU will continue to fight against more deaths.
01:36Again, I'd ask all members to support Jack's family, take up a collection on your job, send it through to the union and we'll pass it on.
01:48They need every bit of support they can get and we will be there for them today, tomorrow and in the future.
