The Shema In The New Testament

A subject that many people are in the dark about.

00:00Shalom brothers and sisters, welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.

00:04Well today I want to talk about a subject. It's a central creed and theme of the Bible

00:10and that is the Shema. Now if some of you haven't heard what the Shema means, it actually

00:17means here. So what are we supposed to hear? I'm going to tell you what we need to hear

00:21but before that I just want to thank you viewers for tuning in to me and without any more hesitation

00:28we're going to jump right into it. So if you have a Bible, get your Bible out and turn

00:32to Deuteronomy chapter 6 verse 4 and this is about the Shema. This is what it is. It says

00:38here O Israel Yahweh our Elohim is one Yahweh. So he is one. He's not a multiple what you'd

00:49call mighty ones or gods. He's not like the pagans around them. They have different idols

00:54and different mighty ones to worship. This is the one true sovereign. This is the one

01:02true the creator, the maker of all of us, the sustainer of life. This is who they worshipped

01:08as one, just one. And I'm going to jump down to New Testament because New Testament, Yeshua,

01:16Paul, Jude, James and others, they refer to the Shema. And I'm going to share them.

01:24verses with you. And this is going to be starting out with Mark. Mark chapter 12 verses 28 to 32.

01:34And this is when the scribe comes up and asks him which is the first commandment. And right

01:39off the bat, Yeshua, he quotes the Shema. Okay, here we're going to go. And one of the scribes

01:45came and having heard them reasoning together and perceiving that he had answered them well,

01:51asked him, which is the first commandment of all? And Yeshua answered him, the first of all the

01:59commandments is, Hear, O Israel, Yahweh, our Elohim is one Yahweh. And thou shalt love Yahweh thy Elohim

02:10with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and with all thy strength. This is the

02:21first commandment. And the second is namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none

02:30other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, well, teacher, thou hast said the

02:39truth for there is one Elohim and there is none other but he. So the scribe is sitting there saying,

02:47you're right. I'm impressed with you. You're right. And, uh, and Yahweh was right. Or Yeshua, I mean,

02:53Yeshua was right about Yahweh, the father. He was right about it. And, uh, anyways, let's go to, uh,

03:00I'm going to go jump down to, I'm going to jump back to Matthew, Matthew right here. And what chapter,

03:06let's see, chapter 19, chapter 19, and, uh, say verse 17, chapter 19, verse 17, right here.

03:19And it says right here, this is, uh, uh, Yeshua, Yeshua was sitting there, uh, when, uh, a person

03:28comes up, good master, what should I do to inherit eternal life? It says right here. And he said unto

03:35him, why callest thou me good? There is none good, but one that is Elohim, which is Yahweh. But

03:41if thou will enter into life, keep the commandments. So in a nutshell, uh, Yeshua is basically saying,

03:50you know, he's referring to the Shema, the Shema of the old Testament. Uh, I'm going to jump over to

03:57John now. This is, uh, the gospel of John and, uh, go to, uh, 17, chapter 17, verse 3. And it states

04:11right here, and this is about, uh, Yeshua's prayers. He's praying right here. And this is

04:17life eternal that they might know the, the only, the one and only true Elohim and Yeshua Messiah,

04:25whom thou hast sent. So Yeshua is sitting there again, saying the only one, you're the only

04:31one. So that's plain as, plain as day right there. So let's go see what Paul has to say

04:39about this. First Corinthians, first Corinthians, uh, we'll go to chapter eight right here, chapter

04:50eight. And, uh, what was verses at? Or verse six, verse six right here. Here's what Paul has

04:59to say. But to us, there is but one Elohim, the father of whom are all things and we in

05:06him. And then there's one master Yeshua, Hamashiach, by whom are all things and we by him. So Paul

05:16sitting there distinguishing them. Who's who, you know, that's what it is. That's what it's

05:21about. Who's who? And we can jump down to, uh, see, goes flip down through some pages here

05:30to, uh, Galatians and Galatians, uh, 320. Paul's talking again about the oneness, uh, 320. Where's

05:43that at? Right here. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but Yahweh is one. So Yahweh

05:52is one, just like, you know, Yeshua is one. So Paul says that again. Let's go to Ephesians,

06:00Ephesians, uh, chapter four, verse six. See, where's that at? One more page over here.

06:09And it says right here, one L and one father of all who is above all and through all and in you

06:22all. What? Yes. Like I said, one L and one, one father and one creator. That's what it's all about

06:30right there. One creator. Now Paul goes over to, uh, uh, uh, second, we'll go to the second

06:37Timothy right here and, uh, chapter two, chapter two and, uh, verse five. And Paul has to say

06:52right here. And if a man also strives for masteries yet, is he not crowned except he

07:01survived lawfully? So now that's, uh, yeah, as he's not, you know, yeah. And if the man also

07:10strives for masteries yet, is he not crowned except he strove lawfully? Just remember that.

07:17Remember that. That's a very good point right here. Now let's jump back to, uh, first Timothy

07:26chapter five or chapter two, verse five. I actually went to the wrong Timothy, but that's good

07:34added bonus here. Uh, chapter two, verse five. And it says right here, for there is one Elohim

07:43and one mediator between Elohim and man, the man, Messiah, Yeshua. So he's the mediator

07:50between man and the one Elohim. That's plainly said, plainly stated right there. Now I want

07:59to go to James. I want to go see what James has to say. That was the half brother of, uh,

08:04the Messiah. So I could find him right here. Go through the book here and, uh, almost there.

08:15And it's going to be chapter two, verse 19, chapter two, verse 19, right here. And it says,

08:25James says, thou believest that there is one Elohim. Thou doest well. The devils also believe

08:35and tremble. So one Elohim, one father, one Yahweh. That's what again, and that's, that's

08:44all there is, is one. And, uh, now I'm going to go to Jude, the book of Jude right here. Jesus

08:51is Messiah's, uh, other half brother. And, uh, it's going to be, uh, chapter one, verse,

08:59uh, four right here. For there are certain men crept in unawares who were before of old

09:07ordained to this condemnation, wicked men turning the grace of our Elohim into, uh, you know, license

09:15and denying the only sovereign Yahweh, the only one, he's the only sovereign and our master

09:22Yeshua Messiah. So our only, our only sovereign, uh, Yahweh. Then he says our master. Then he says

09:30not only master, but he's, he says, uh, our master, he distinguishes Yahweh from Yeshua right

09:36there. So there were some, uh, good old examples of, uh, uh, the Shema. It's in the, you know,

09:44in the, in the new Testament, like, like the, uh, all the apostles, Yeshua, they all mentioned,

09:50uh, quotes from the old Testament and that's, uh, you know, it's right there in the books.

09:55So that's all I wanted to share with you. And, uh, let me know what you think about this. Uh,
