Transcript
00:00I felt it. Everywhere. Everywhere.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at 10 possible endings to Stranger Things, both good and bad.
00:11She can carry me to Vecna. I can piggyback. I can protect her. From one. Fight him from here.
00:20Number 10. Hawkins Gets Nuked.
00:30Mom, it's snowy!
00:32It wouldn't be an 80s-inspired finale without a nuke going off.
00:36When the Upside Down spreads beyond control, either the American or Soviet militaries might decide that the only solution is total annihilation.
00:43In this ending, Hawkins becomes ground zero for a nuclear strike that is meant to purge the Upside Down from the world once and for all.
00:55We're not saying that the characters have to die. Maybe they escape just in time.
00:59But either way, Hawkins has wiped off the face of the earth.
01:02This rather downbeat action would end the show on a tragic, yet cinematic note,
01:06and would be in perfect sync with the Cold War paranoia that has been simmering under the surface the entire time.
01:11I know I've been MIA, and I'm sorry. It's not because I'm mad.
01:15I mean, I actually was mad, but it's also because I was trapped underground in a secret Russian base.
01:20I am proud of my feet.
01:21Dustin, you're going way too fast. I can't understand you.
01:24I know that sounds insane, but the Russians have infiltrated Hawkins. The goddamn Russians!
01:29Number 9. The Upside Down Invades the Real World
01:32Might be time to get a maid, Wheeler.
01:40Not to keep catastrophizing, but hey, we have to think of all the possibilities.
01:43In this ending, The Upside Down completely invades Hawkins and takes over the world,
01:48creating a planet where Demogorgons roam freely, spores fill the sky,
01:52and reality itself twists into a nightmare.
01:54Humanity itself becomes trapped in a hybrid dimension, half suburbia, half apocalypse.
01:59These are from sophomore chemistry.
02:02And this, this wallpaper, this, this is old wallpaper.
02:08And this mirror, this went to a yard sale.
02:11And you, you're not supposed to be here.
02:15No, I gave you to Cousin Joanna two years ago.
02:18This ending is even more tragic than the nuke one.
02:21The bad ending cranked up to 11.
02:23It would completely redefine the series,
02:25turning it from nostalgic Spielbergian mystery into a full-blown sci-fi dystopia, thread style.
02:30It's a chilling possibility that underscores the series' core theme.
02:33When you literally open doors you don't understand, you can't always close them.
02:37They're using this energy to break through a barrier to open a doorway, a doorway between worlds.
02:50Number eight, the it-was-all-a-D&D campaign ending.
02:54Something is coming.
02:56Something hungry for blood.
02:58A shadow grows on the wall behind you, swallowing you in darkness.
03:02It is almost here.
03:03Cliche or brilliant?
03:05In this meta-ending, the camera pans out to reveal the real versions of Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will,
03:11playing a Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
03:12We're just saying, it's telling that the show opened with the kids playing a game.
03:15The Demogorgon is tired of your silly human bickering!
03:18It stops towards you!
03:20BOOM!
03:20Fireball!
03:21What if the whole show was just a continuation of that?
03:23Or what if they're older versions of the characters, playing one last campaign for old time's sake?
03:28Every monster, every portal, every heartbreak, all just parts of their elaborate campaign.
03:32Once again, this ending would be very 80s.
03:35New Heart, Dallas, St. Elsewhere, all played that it was all a dream trope.
03:39But just saying, if they do this, we'd be as into it as Mike and Lucas were into Will's campaign.
03:44All right then, I'll use my torts to set fire to the chambers, sacrificing ourselves, killing the Jujus, and saving the Kuzar.
03:50We all live on as heroes in the memories of the Kalamar.
03:53Victory!
03:53Number 7, The Other Kids Get Powers.
03:56We need Elle to get her powers back.
03:58Everything was like way easier.
04:00We had this girl, she had superpowers.
04:02Superpowers.
04:02Yeah, you mentioned her.
04:04What if, by the end of Season 5, Eleven isn't the only one with special powers?
04:08Who knows?
04:09Maybe exposure to the Upside Down could awaken some latent abilities in the rest of the gang.
04:13Or maybe, Eleven could do some kind of psychic mobile hotspot and lend the kids some superpowers for a couple of seconds.
04:18Will is already showing some degree of otherness, as he has the ability to sense the Upside Down.
04:23And the groundwork for Will the Wise has long been laid down.
04:27I see Will the Wise is back.
04:31What's that shooting out of this cane?
04:34Fireballs.
04:35I couldn't find the red crayons, that's why it's green.
04:38Maybe he finally gets those green fireballs he's been fantasizing about.
04:41The result?
04:42Maybe a superpowered Hawkins crew ready for the final showdown.
04:44It's Stranger Things meets X-Men, balancing emotional growth with explosive spectacle.
04:50Will, you're action!
04:50I don't know!
04:51Fireball him!
04:52I didn't have to roll a 13 or higher!
04:53Too risky, cast a protection spell!
04:55Don't be a pussy!
04:56Fireball him!
04:57Number 6, Eleven powers up.
04:59We used to store them underground in these silos, but we haven't used this one in years.
05:03In fact, there's no bomb here at all.
05:05It's just a big ol' empty space.
05:08So we repurposed it to haul something much more powerful than a missile.
05:13You.
05:14Eleven's been leveling up since day one.
05:17In season four, she was blowing away soldiers, taking down military helicopters, even bringing
05:21people back from the dead.
05:22But what if she transcends even that?
05:25We're just saying, the possibilities are endless.
05:27When you were attacked last year, I believe that your signals were scrambled in much the
05:31same way.
05:33But just as a stroke victim can learn to walk again, I believe you too can return to your
05:39full power.
05:40What if by the end, O'Shea and Vecna are flying high above the streets of Hawkins, Neo and
05:45Agent Smith style?
05:46At least some kind of level up is hinted at in the trailer, when Eleven bounds over a fence.
05:50It's the ultimate power fantasy turned bittersweet, as the girl who was once controlled by science
05:55becomes something far beyond it, rewriting the very fabric of reality, the ultimate tool
06:00to save the world.
06:02You didn't think it would be that easy, did you?
06:09I don't understand.
06:12I do.
06:13Number five, Will becomes the new Vecna.
06:15From the very beginning, Will Byers has been tied to the Upside Down, haunted, marked, and
06:25connected in ways even Eleven can't fully understand.
06:28And maybe in this downbeat ending, that connection finally consumes him, both physically and mentally.
06:33After Vecna's defeat, the psychic residue of the monster begins to fuse with Will's mind,
06:38slowly transforming him into a new vessel for the Upside Down's Will.
06:41He made me do it.
06:44Who?
06:45Who made you do what?
06:48I told you.
06:50They upset him.
06:53They shouldn't have done that.
06:54Torn between his humanity and the darkness inside, Will becomes the next Vecna, tragically
06:59taking up the mantle of the creature that once tormented him.
07:02The series could end with him watching his friends from the shadows, his voice echoing in
07:06the distance.
07:07It's poetic, heartbreaking, and the ultimate full circle twist for the boy who started it
07:11at all.
07:22Number 4.
07:23Max Becomes a Vessel for the Eleven
07:25This is Max.
07:28When one attacks, he will be in her mind.
07:32But I can do that too.
07:33I want into Mama's mind, into Billy's.
07:36I can go into Max's.
07:38Similar to how Will is a vessel for Vecna, maybe Max can now become a vessel for Eleven.
07:42In the Season 4 finale, Eleven physically enters Max's mind, so we know it's possible.
07:46And from what we currently understand, the Max we know is essentially dead, as her consciousness
07:50is nothing but an endless black void.
07:53Max!
07:58Max!
07:58Max!
07:58Maybe Eleven can harness this to some agree, accessing this empty part of her mind and
08:08turning her into a tool, or an extension of herself.
08:11Maybe, just maybe, Season 5 ends with Eleven saving the day, albeit in a new Max shell.
08:16Do they know when she'll wake?
08:21No.
08:26They say she might not.
08:28Number 3.
08:29Eleven sacrifices herself.
08:31Eleven, stop!
08:34It's the ending that fans dread, and the one that many expect.
08:38In the ultimate act of love and redemption, Eleven gives her life to close the rift and
08:42destroy the Upside Down for good.
08:44Her sacrifice would save Hawkins, but it would also break the hearts of everyone she's touched,
08:49including the viewers.
08:49The emotional fallout would be immense.
08:52Mike would grieve, Hopper would be destroyed after losing another daughter, and the quiet,
08:56devastated town would finally be at peace.
08:58It would be tragic, but it would also complete Eleven's journey from victim to savior, and
09:02would mirror the end of Season 1, when Eleven sacrificed herself to save Mike.
09:10Goodbye, Mike.
09:13Number 2.
09:14The Happy Ending.
09:15You wanna, like, you know, like, just you and me?
09:19Are you trying to ask me to dance, Stalker?
09:22No.
09:23Of course not.
09:25Unless you want to.
09:27So smooth.
09:28Come on.
09:30Of course, it's very possible that no one dies.
09:32After years of terror, loss, and trauma, maybe the characters finally earn themselves a
09:36little peace.
09:37In this ending, the portal is sealed, the monsters are killed, and everyone lives happily ever
09:42after.
09:42Hey, you holding up?
09:44No.
09:45Yeah.
09:46That feeling never goes away.
09:50It is true what they say, you know.
09:53Every day it does get a little easier.
09:55Maybe Hopper and Joyce finally settle down.
09:57Eleven learns to live a normal life.
09:59Nancy and Jonathan begin fresh, and the gang goes their separate ways.
10:02Older, wiser, and safe.
10:04Heck, maybe even Steve becomes a cop and starts working under Hopper, the perfect job that
10:08preserves his protective big brother persona.
10:10It's pure, heartfelt, bittersweet closure, 80s Spielberg style, and we love to see it.
10:15How's that for compromise?
10:18Compromise?
10:21C-O-M.
10:23Promise.
10:25Compromise.
10:27How about that's your word for the day?
10:28Yeah?
10:29It's something that's kind of in between.
10:32It's like halfway happy.

10:50Number one.
10:51Flash forward to the 1990s.
10:52I miss playing board games every night.
10:55Making triple-decker ego extravaganzas at sunrise.
11:01Watching westerns together before we doze off.
11:05But I know you're getting older.
11:09Growing.
11:11Changing.
11:12You know what would be absolutely awesome?
11:14Pull a Harry Potter and show a happy ending combined with a flash forward into the 1990s.
11:18It'd be another notch in the show's nostalgic belt.
11:21The gang's all grown up.
11:22Some of them have started families.
11:23Some are still living in Hawkins.
11:25And I guess, if I'm being really honest, that's what scares me.
11:34I don't want things to change.
11:36They reunite in the 1990s.
11:38Maybe for a D&D campaign or a school reunion.
11:40Or just some kind of nostalgic get-together in Hawkins.
11:43Ace of Base is playing on the radio.
11:44One of them is a flannel shirt and ripped jeans.
11:46Someone brings up friends?
11:48It would veer on cheesiness, but who cares?
11:50It'd still be a super warm way to end the series.
11:52And would bring the ultimate closure.
11:55And yeah.
11:57Sometimes it's painful.
11:59Sometimes it's sad.
12:02And sometimes.
12:05It's surprising.
12:08Happy.
12:11So you know what?
12:13Keep on growing up, kid.
12:15What do you think of these potential endings?
12:17How do you think the show is going to end?
