00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most dramatic moments
00:05when anime characters found themselves overwhelmed.
00:1910.
00:20Nanohoshi's Crash Out – Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation
00:25She may have gotten isegai to the same world as protagonist Rudeus Greyrat, but Nanohoshi
00:30got a much worse deal.
00:41Instead of a ton of mana and a growing group of loved ones, she's all alone and mana instead
00:47builds up inside her like an illness, leaving her close to dying.
00:51While Rudeus and company promise to search for a cure, Nanohoshi falls into despair and
00:56wails privately to Rudeus at the unfairness of her situation.
01:09Despite not aging, she can still get sick.
01:12She also bitterly expresses jealousy of Rudeus and his loving family, yet she's forever
01:17separated from her own.
01:30Honestly, if we were in Nanohoshi's shoes, we can't say we'd handle it well either.
01:439.
01:44Luffy Loses Hope – One Piece You'd be hard-pressed to find a more optimistic
01:49and happy-go-lucky anime protagonist than Monkey D. Luffy.
01:53But even he has a breaking point.
01:55After losing his brother Ace right before his eyes, Luffy goes totally catatonic, unable
02:01to handle the loss.
02:09Even after waking up, the man who will be Pirate King is still utterly devastated, denying reality,
02:15smashing anything in sight and crying his eyes out.
02:26His rampage of grief only makes his own injuries worse.
02:30And given how much he blames his own weakness for Ace's death, he's not inclined to stop.
02:35Luckily, Jinbei is there to remind him what he still has left – his crew.
02:548.
02:56Tenko's Quick Manifests – My Hero Academia When it comes to villainous origin stories, Shigaraki's
03:02is pretty dang horrific.
03:05As a child, the then-named Tenko Shimura was horribly abused by his father Kotaro.
03:16After his dad goes too far, Tenko cries outside, hugging his dog.
03:21Tragically, this is when his unique power manifests – decay.
03:25It turns the pooch into a pile of body parts.
03:34As he turns to his family members for help, they each crumble one after another.
03:38And then his dad arrives.
03:40After Kotaro strikes him, Tenko goes full villain and laughs like a maniac as he intentionally
03:46kills his abuser.
03:47While it's fitting that someone who can break everything is so broken, it's still hard to
03:59watch.

04:20Mob's Unknown Percentage Rampage
04:22Mob Psycho 100
04:24Given how often he suppresses his emotions, Mob often lets them run wild in moments of explosive
04:31psychic power.
04:32But when he gets especially overwhelmed by these feelings, another personality takes over.
04:37While on his way to confess to his crush Tsubomi, Mob is hit by a car protecting a boy.
04:51The resulting rampage causes earthquakes and lays waste to the city as he continues to Tsubomi,
04:57no matter what gets in his way.
05:09Thanks to some timely intervention by Mob's decidedly not-psychic master, Regan, Mob is
05:15able to reconcile his two personalities and accept himself.
05:19And we thought our growing pains were bad.
05:306.
05:31Greed Remembers
05:32Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
05:35He may be a homunculus made almost purely from the emotion he's named for, but Greed
05:40is among the most human of his brethren, even after the original is killed and given a new
05:45body.
05:46But when the new Greed meets one of his old subordinates, Guido, and kills him, he starts
05:51to remember his previous life.
05:58Overwhelmed by the memories, Greed is also berated by his new host, Ling.
06:03The human mocks Greed's lack of his namesake for being willing to give up possessions like
06:07his friends and his memories.
06:15The mental toll is so great on Greed that he attacks his fellow homunculus Raph in a frenzy
06:20and turns against his own kind.
06:23Again!
06:285.
06:29Obito's Hell
06:30Naruto Shibaren
06:32You'd think getting crushed under a rock and then saved by one of the Ninja World's
06:36big bads, Maduro Uchiha would be enough trauma for young Obito.
06:44But there's more in store for him.
06:47After learning his friends Kakashi and Rin are surrounded, he rushes to go help them,
06:52but then he arrives to see Kakashi killing Rin.
06:59Consumed by despair and fury, Obito proceeds to massacre the mist ninja who drove the now
07:05unconscious Kakashi to commit the deed.
07:08Obito ends up a blood-soaked whirlwind of grief in this shocking display of violence.
07:20Given that he's just seen his crush murdered by his best friend and he's surrounded by
07:25the dead, Obito's conclusion that he's in hell isn't entirely unreasonable.
07:42Despite having to kill his dad to save others, Kiritsugu finds purpose in pursuing other rogue
07:48magi with his adopted mom, Natalia.
08:01Unfortunately, their last mission together proves incredibly tragic.
08:05When Natalia is aboard a jumbo jet pursuing their targets, the rest of the passengers are
08:10infected and turned into ghouls.
08:12Although she barricades herself in the cockpit, the rest of the jet is essentially a time bomb
08:18if it lands.
08:29Kiritsugu has an emotional final conversation with her over the radio, admitting how much
08:34she means to him.
08:35And then he chooses to once again put the greater good over someone he loves, blowing up the jet.
08:41The Maguskiller cries profusely as he has a raw emotional breakdown on a boat.
08:46The Maguskiller Claimers
08:50No.3 Light Gets Chords
09:00Despite the occasional moments of inner panic, Light remains mostly calm as he manipulates
09:06and kills everyone in his way using the famed Death Notes.
09:09However, when he's cornered at last and exposed as Kira, his facade of control slips away.
09:27Light's laugh is less evil mastermind and more unhinged and desperate.
09:32His confession and attempts at justification fall on deaf ears.
09:47Getting shot by Matsuda only pushes Light further off-kilter.
09:51It's a fittingly ironic final breakdown for a villain protagonist who prided himself on
09:57controlling himself and everyone else.

10:05Yuji's Despair – Jujutsu Kaisen
10:08Having Sukuna, the evilest and most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer in history, inside you has
10:15got to be terrifying.
10:16Yuji Itadori learns just how bad it can get during the Shibuya incident.
10:20Tsukuna takes over and unleashes widespread destruction across Shibuya, killing countless
10:26people in his destructive battles.
10:29When his time's up, Tsukuna taunts Yuji as the Jujutsu-hai student regains control of his
10:34body and experiences a flood of memories of everything that happened.
10:47Vomiting, clawing at the ground and wishing for death, Yuji's anguish is as heartbreaking
10:53as it is disturbing.
11:00The show's opening theme playing during this feels like one more jab from Sukuna too.
11:05Yuji might find the strength to keep going, but we wouldn't blame him if he just gave
11:09up.

11:31Eren's Breakdown – Attack on Titan
11:34Now we know you're asking, which breakdown?
11:36Eren Jaeger certainly goes through the ringer throughout Attack on Titan, but his most memorable
11:41mental meltdown is arguably in the season 2 finale.
11:45Unable to transform into his Titan form, Eren can do nothing but watch as Titans kill his comrades.
11:51And the Titan that killed his mother also devours his old friend, Hanes.
11:56Struck by how absurdly tragic the situation is, Eren laughs hysterically as he cries.
12:05The way he screams and laughs amid his tears is truly something to behold.
12:17Eren's voice actor deserves all the honors for managing to convey how overwhelmed he is
12:22so perfectly.
