It's been a couple of months since Buck Thompson with Rescue Services for Wayne Forest and geologist Jessica Alaway met and fell in love while they escaped a raging forest fire together. Although Buck's work never allows him truly to plan, the two are hoping to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together, their first, both with Buck's family, who all work in the Wayne Forest ranger service, and alone just the two of them, before they all reconvene on Christmas Day when Buck's now deceased father, Walt, will be formally memorialized for his service to the community. Jessica is nervous if only because she isn't sure where she fits within their family in she trying to come to grips with their very strong holiday family traditions, which matriarch Janine has fostered even more since Walt's death, and within their life of service in Wayne Forest. Their Thanksgiving is interrupted when Buck is called away to Avalon County to assist with an avalanche rescue. What was anticipated to be a short emergency gets extended first by days then weeks when Buck agrees, on the urging of his old friend Meg Rogers with Avalon Search and Rescue, to stay and assist with proactive maintenance on what Meg anticipates will be a difficult avalanche season. But Buck and Jessica are determined to spend some alone time before Christmas before the memorial, something that is made all the more difficult due to the natural circumstances of winter, and by something that Jessica eventually discovers through osmosis, namely that Meg was once more to Buck than just a friend and work colleague. Meanwhile, Janine has to deal with a situation in her role on the Wayne Forest detail in discovering Christmas tree poachers. And Buck's single sister Roma, a cat person who is reluctantly looking after Jessica's faithful dog Charlie, can't help but think about a lost past at this special time of year in she having told no one of that past.

00:00:20That's her!
00:00:21Woo!
00:00:22He's got her!
00:00:24The herald angels sing glory to the newborn king.
00:00:31Woo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:33Woo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:34Woo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:35Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:37Let's ride up to these doors!
00:00:39Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:42Let's ride!
00:00:44Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:49Here we go!
00:00:50That's enough for you?
00:00:51Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:53Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
00:00:54And hark the herald angels sing glory to the newborn king.
00:01:04Jess, where's the fire?
00:01:07Too quick for you?
00:01:09No.
00:01:11But I am in no rush to get back to Thanksgiving craziness.
00:01:15Yeah, I'll second that.
00:01:18I have everything that I'm thankful for right here.
00:01:22I do not peg you for an expert snowmobiler.
00:01:26Wait till you see me on skis, with snowshoes, and I can build a pretty mean snowman.
00:01:32How did I not know that about you?
00:01:34You know, a true lady always preserves an air of mystery.
00:01:37Too late for that.
00:01:39I already know how amazing you are.
00:01:41Come on.
00:01:43You're sticking to the trails this time.
00:01:46Oh, come on, Buck Thompson.
00:01:48Take off your ranger hat for a minute.
00:01:50You're off duty.
00:01:55Spectacular, right?
00:01:56Definitely.
00:01:57I love this.
00:01:58The temperature drops.
00:02:00Stalactites aggregate in beautiful crystal formation.
00:02:05I'll be studying the physical underlying structure of this land.
00:02:09Hmm.
00:02:10Geology rocks.
00:02:12Geology puns.
00:02:14We've been having a lot of fun, Jess, these last few months, but I was rock bottom.
00:02:21Although getting to know you just made me want to be bolder.
00:02:25Oh, I'm impressed with that one.
00:02:30It really is beautiful.
00:02:32Every time I take a deep breath and my lungs freeze, I respect how dangerous it is out here.
00:02:38Well, you should probably get back.
00:02:41Your mom is never going to warm up to me if we're late for Thanksgiving.
00:02:46Mom is going to warm up to you.
00:02:48Store-bought apple pie notwithstanding, everyone knows it's pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving.
00:02:54I don't.
00:02:55I don't know these things.
00:02:57Are your big city Thanksgiving's too posh for pies?
00:03:00No.
00:03:01No, it's not.
00:03:03My family is just a little less traditional.
00:03:08Mom's just been hard to connect to ever since Dad died.
00:03:12She's even more protective of her traditions.
00:03:15Well, you're still really lucky to have such a tight-knit family.
00:03:19I'm just not really sure how I fit in.
00:03:23You've been pretty good so far.
00:03:25Really?
00:03:26Mm-hmm.
00:03:27Once they get to know you like I do, they're going to love you.
00:03:32Do you want to maybe spend Christmas together?
00:03:36We can go somewhere, just the two of us, spend a few hours by her place?
00:03:42Yeah.
00:03:43Yeah.
00:03:44That my uncle's got a cabin near Howler's Bay?
00:03:48Maybe.
00:03:49We will see.
00:03:51I mean, we don't have to spend Christmas together if you don't want to.
00:03:55In my line of work, I can't make plans.
00:03:58Accidents, natural disasters, they don't really happen on the schedule.
00:04:03I just don't want to let you down.
00:04:06I'm crazy about you.
00:04:08And I'm lucky to spend any day with you, Christmas or not.
00:04:13I'm not.
00:04:16Okay.
00:04:18Okay.
00:04:26Hey, Mom.
00:04:27Hey!
00:04:29Ooh.
00:04:30These are for you.
00:04:31No, honey, these are beautiful.
00:04:34They're beautiful.
00:04:35I thought maybe you could put them on the table in memory of Dad.
00:04:39Aw, that's really thoughtful of you.
00:04:42Thanks.
00:04:43Of course.
00:04:44Okay, let me have it.
00:04:45What's the plan for this year?
00:04:46Well, you get to guess.
00:04:49Okay, um, small to large?
00:04:51Nope.
00:04:52Um, shiny?
00:04:54Nope.
00:04:55Well, a little.
00:04:56Uh, antique?
00:04:57Nope.
00:04:58Vintage?
00:04:59Nope.
00:05:00Okay, I'll tell you.
00:05:01In honor of my Scottish heritage.
00:05:03I thought we'd go with plaid chic.
00:05:07I love it.
00:05:08It's genius, Mom.
00:05:10Took me a while to paint all of these, but...
00:05:12Hang on, you hand painted these?
00:05:14I did.
00:05:15Of course you did.
00:05:16I know.
00:05:17Nothing else to do.
00:05:18Decorate.
00:05:19They look great.
00:05:21I'm really happy you're here helping me with this.
00:05:23Gosh, it's too bad you have to work the holiday shift today.
00:05:27I know, I'm sorry, it's just, it's my turn.
00:05:30You know who's gonna eat everything in sight?
00:05:34Mmm, yeah.
00:05:36Buck?
00:05:37Yes?
00:05:38Can you just put a plate aside for me?
00:05:40I will.
00:05:41Oh, good idea.
00:05:42I will.
00:05:43Okay.
00:05:44Oh, my stepladder.
00:05:45Already looks great.
00:05:46It does.
00:05:47Hey.
00:05:48Aunt Janine says dinner's up in ten.
00:05:49Last one there is a rotten eggnog.
00:05:50Yeah.
00:05:51You smell like pyrite.
00:05:52Wait, it's a rock.
00:05:54It smells like sulfur.
00:05:55I like the joke.
00:05:56It's a rock.
00:05:57It smells like sulfur.
00:05:58I like the joke.
00:05:59It does.
00:06:00It does.
00:06:01It does.
00:06:02Hey.
00:06:03Aunt Janine says dinner's up in ten.
00:06:04Maybe we can go for a walk after dinner.
00:06:05It's the Leonoy George.
00:06:06Get out of the place.
00:06:07I'm sorry.
00:06:08I'm sorry.
00:06:09I'm sorry.
00:06:10Let's go.
00:06:11Let's go.
00:06:12Wait, it's a rock.
00:06:13It smells like sulfur.
00:06:15I like the joke.
00:06:16You know what?
00:06:17I'm walking.
00:06:19Well then, I am walking too.
00:06:21Well, then you're gonna be rotten eggnog.
00:06:23I'm glad I'd be with you.
00:06:25You will find some time for us.
00:06:28Just you and me.
00:06:29I promise.
00:06:30Maybe we can go for a walk after dinner.
00:06:33It's the Leonoid meteor shower tonight.
00:06:35It should be pretty spectacular.
00:06:37It's a date.
00:06:39Okay.
00:06:59So that's what the Thompson family sounds like.
00:07:20Come on, Jess.
00:07:22Take it away.
00:07:25I...
00:07:26Tis the season to be jolly.
00:07:29Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
00:07:32Done, we now are b***ing apparel.
00:07:35Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la.
00:07:37Okay, guys.
00:07:38Everybody sit down.
00:07:40Janine, this looks incredible.
00:07:42Oh, thank you.
00:07:44T'was nothing.
00:07:45Um, she has been preparing for weeks.
00:07:48Everything on this table has been grown,
00:07:51gathered, and hunted by Aunt Janine.
00:07:53Really?
00:07:54And what can I say?
00:07:56My family deserves the best.
00:07:59Well, every dish smells amazing.
00:08:03You did really well this summer with the gardens.
00:08:06Finally, we were able to pick more than the wildlife could eat.
00:08:09What does your family like to make for Thanksgiving?
00:08:12Oh, nothing nearly as impressive as this.
00:08:16If you think this is impressive, wait to see what she does at Christmas.
00:08:21Surely Jessica's parents will want to see her at Christmas.
00:08:25Well, actually, my family has never been big on celebrating commercial holidays.
00:08:31The town is honoring my dad with the Christmas Eve service this year.
00:08:36Candlelight Christmas Eve service.
00:08:38I just want to say how special it is to have my family here with me.
00:08:45It's another Thanksgiving without Walter.
00:08:49But as I look into each of your eyes, and of course, Roma,
00:08:54I can really feel that he is here with us.
00:08:58So...
00:08:59Sorry, Ma.
00:09:03No worries.
00:09:04Everything okay?
00:09:06It's Avalon County.
00:09:08It's an emergency.
00:09:08I think it's here.
00:09:15Wade Rangers to Avalon?
00:09:17Buck?
00:09:17If you can hear me...
00:09:19This is Buck Thompson.
00:09:20Go ahead.
00:09:21It's Meg Rogers up in Avalon Pass.
00:09:24Meg?
00:09:25It's a long time.
00:09:27What's going on?
00:09:28Level 2 Avalanche.
00:09:29I've got skiers trapped somewhere out there.
00:09:33Current weather?
00:09:34Visibility is low.
00:09:35Storm is pressing in.
00:09:36My team is stretched thin.
00:09:38We can really use your expertise.
00:09:40I'm on my way.
00:09:41Over.
00:09:42I'm trying to do something different.
00:09:44Oh, really?
00:09:44Avalon's had a Level 2.
00:09:46I'm sorry, but I have to go.
00:09:48What's a Level 2?
00:09:49It's an Avalanche.
00:09:50I'll call Roma.
00:09:51Get her ready?
00:09:52Not yet.
00:09:53Let me assess on the ground what rescue efforts they need
00:09:55and if they need air support.
00:09:57Meg and I have worked together before.
00:09:58We've got a short end.
00:10:00I'm going to need you to cover for me.
00:10:01I'm on my way.
00:10:03Meg.
00:10:06Who's Meg?
00:10:07Um, let me pack you some food.
00:10:10Uh, no time.
00:10:11Duty calls.
00:10:11Well, honey, you need to eat something.
00:10:14Everyone who taught me to live a life in service of others.
00:10:18On Thanksgiving.
00:10:20Me too.
00:10:22Excuse me.
00:10:24Oh.
00:10:26This is Buck Thompson.
00:10:27I need my plane ready to go and out of the anchor.
00:10:30Do you think there'll be more Avalanches?
00:10:34It's always a possibility.
00:10:35You'll be safe in your plane, though, right?
00:10:37This isn't my first Avalanche.
00:10:39I know.
00:10:40Just on a scale of 1 to 10, how dangerous is it?
00:10:43I don't know.
00:10:45Best case scenario, I could be back in a few hours.
00:10:48Worst case?
00:10:49There's never been a worst case scenario that I've been able to get myself out of.
00:10:52I don't intend to.
00:10:53But you...
00:10:54Jess, rescue service is the life I've chosen.
00:10:57You're my girlfriend.
00:10:59I need you to understand.
00:11:04I have to go.
00:11:06Wait.
00:11:13Take this.
00:11:14A geologist with a lucky rock.
00:11:23What's it mean?
00:11:24It's a meteorite.
00:11:26That little hunk of rock is what started my fascination with geology.
00:11:31And yes, it's my lucky rock.
00:11:36Be safe.
00:11:38Come back to me.
00:11:42I will.
00:11:44So, where was I?
00:11:56Um, cheers.
00:11:59To us ladies, to lost loves.
00:12:03Happy holidays.
00:12:07Dig in.
00:12:08Please.
00:12:14Don't worry.
00:12:38Buck is an excellent pilot.
00:12:39With years of experience with search and rescue under his belt.
00:12:43I know.
00:12:45It's just hard to turn the worry off.
00:12:46You'll learn to live with it.
00:12:48Pass the potatoes.
00:12:49Sure.
00:12:52And don't worry about Buck.
00:12:53If he's with Meg, he has absolutely nothing to worry about.
00:12:58Who...
00:12:58Who is Meg?
00:12:59Did they serve together, or...?
00:13:01No.
00:13:02Meg and Roma served together in Afghanistan, and Buck and Meg were co-pilots in the Avalon Pass.
00:13:11Carrots.
00:13:11Yes.
00:13:12Co-pilots?
00:13:14Yeah.
00:13:16Oh.
00:13:16Beats?
00:13:18Sure.
00:13:18The Buck Thompson.
00:13:34Ted.
00:13:35Hey.
00:13:35Didn't realize Meg was calling in the big guns.
00:13:37Oh, man.
00:13:38It's been too long.
00:13:39It's good to see you.
00:13:40Likewise, brother.
00:13:41Only wish it was under better circumstances, you know?
00:13:43Have a job.
00:13:43Stand by.
00:13:45There he is.
00:13:46I knew I could count on you.
00:13:47Hold up and ready to go.
00:13:49That's why you're the best.
00:13:51The skiers are experienced.
00:13:52They have a transceiver, but we haven't located the signal yet.
00:13:55If they've been pushed off the trail, they could be anywhere down here.
00:13:58Hopefully nowhere near that cliff.
00:13:59The amount of snowfall and debris?
00:14:01It'd be buried deep.
00:14:03Exactly.
00:14:04I'll need you to fly as low as you can.
00:14:06I'll be your eyes and ears out there.
00:14:07Let's go!
00:14:17Do you want me to start hanging these?
00:14:24Yes, please.
00:14:26And this is our Christmas countdown cookie counter.
00:14:30Christmas can officially begin.
00:14:33Is that like an advent calendar?
00:14:35Sort of.
00:14:36But you roll the days back until Christmas and have a cookie for each day.
00:14:40Because, well, cookies.
00:14:41Well, I think that's a really cute tradition.
00:14:46This is such a beautiful tree.
00:14:48It smells so fresh, like you just took it out of the forest.
00:14:53Never from the forest.
00:14:55From Dana at the tree farm.
00:14:58You know what could be good?
00:15:00If you talked with Aunt Janine about working the Thompson tree detail?
00:15:05Yeah, sure.
00:15:06I would love to.
00:15:07What is the Thompson tree detail?
00:15:11It's an old forest ranger tradition.
00:15:14She heads it up.
00:15:15I think you'd like it.
00:15:18Yeah, I'd love to.
00:15:28Steady Ted.
00:15:29Come in steady Teddy.
00:15:32Ain't nobody calling me that anymore, Buck.
00:15:34They should.
00:15:36You earned it.
00:15:38Thanks for guiding us through the peaks, buddy.
00:15:39Hey, man, it's awesome to have you back on the team.
00:15:42We should, uh, we should catch up later.
00:15:45No, I better get back.
00:15:47Not tonight, you're not.
00:15:49You've just completed a high-stress search and rescue.
00:15:53You need to take a break.
00:15:56Okay, okay.
00:15:58I guess I'm gonna see you at the mess hall.
00:16:00Over and out.
00:16:01Copy that.
00:16:02Hey, Buck.
00:16:03Hey, Buck.
00:16:08Would you consider staying longer?
00:16:12No, I can't.
00:16:14Really.
00:16:14I'm in for a rough winter.
00:16:18They're forecasting record snowfall, and I'm seriously shorthanded.
00:16:24We need avalanche control, and we need to start blasting now.
00:16:27And quite frankly, there's no one east of the Rockies that has your skills.
00:16:31Please.
00:16:32Please.
00:16:36Please, please.
00:16:38Fine.
00:16:39I'll stay for a bit.
00:16:43Good.
00:16:44Hey, can you give me a minute?
00:16:50I'm just gonna call home, and I don't know I'm staying home.
00:16:53Okay.
00:16:54I'll get you some punch.
00:17:02Buck!
00:17:03Jess.
00:17:04Hey.
00:17:05Hey, Buck.
00:17:08Hey, can you hear me?
00:17:09Jess?
00:17:11Jess, the reception's bad.
00:17:14If you can hear me, the rescue went well.
00:17:16The skiers are safe.
00:17:18But, uh, I'm not gonna be flying home tonight.
00:17:21You're flying home tonight?
00:17:22That's great.
00:17:24No, I'm staying.
00:17:26For a few days, actually.
00:17:29A few days?
00:17:31Yeah, Meg needs help with the avalanche control.
00:17:34All this early snow is wreaking havoc.
00:17:36Oh.
00:17:38Okay, well, uh...
00:17:40You know what?
00:17:41We can, um, we can decorate our Christmas tree on the weekend.
00:17:44I'm not really sure how long the blasting's gonna take.
00:17:49Blasting?
00:17:51Isn't that kind of dangerous?
00:17:53Buck, come on.
00:17:55Friends are waiting.
00:17:57Look, I don't want to keep you from your work.
00:18:00Sorry, what?
00:18:01Look, Jess.
00:18:03We're gonna decorate the tree next week or the week after.
00:18:06I miss you.
00:18:09I miss you.
00:18:10Me too.
00:18:12I know.
00:18:14Duty calls.
00:18:16Look.
00:18:18I'm really sorry about this.
00:18:19I didn't...
00:18:20Jess...
00:18:22Hello?
00:18:25Buck?
00:18:26There he is.
00:18:34The man of the hour trying to hide.
00:18:36Get in here.
00:18:38Introducing your local hero, Buck Thompson, huh?
00:18:41Woo!
00:18:41Woo!
00:18:45You all did great today.
00:18:47To you.
00:18:48Cheers!
00:18:48Hey.
00:18:57Hey.
00:18:58Is Buck okay?
00:18:59Did he find those skiers?
00:19:00Yeah.
00:19:01Everyone's safe.
00:19:02Here, let me.
00:19:05That's great.
00:19:06Well, he must be starving when he gets back,
00:19:08so Aunt Janine has his plate, too, over there.
00:19:10Oh, he's, um...
00:19:11He's actually not gonna be home for a couple of days.
00:19:15Meg needed him at Avalon.
00:19:16Must be serious, then.
00:19:18Yeah.
00:19:19Yeah, sure.
00:19:23So, I'm gonna get back to that.
00:19:25Yeah, please.
00:19:28Buddy, you just saved two lives, man.
00:19:30Don't look so down.
00:19:31Is everything okay at home?
00:19:34Girlfriend's disappointed I'm staying on.
00:19:36It's our first Thanksgiving.
00:19:37What, you're not home to hang some decorations together?
00:19:40Rescue services, man.
00:19:41It's unpredictable.
00:19:43It's hard to find people that, uh,
00:19:44understand the stress and demands, right?
00:19:46Come on.
00:19:47Let's play.
00:19:49Don't worry.
00:19:50I'm gonna let you win this time.
00:19:51Because I feel bad for you.
00:19:52That's what he says every time.
00:19:54Uh-huh.
00:19:54Come on, darling.
00:20:07Tell me what's on your line.
00:20:12Tell me if it's the same as what's been laying on mine.
00:20:19I bet we could be everything that you dreamed.
00:20:31Everything that you believed.
00:20:36If we hold on tight.
00:20:37If we hold on tight.
00:20:41So, I'm gonna risk it all.
00:20:46I don't care if I fall.
00:20:51Because I'd rather not be the same as never knowing if it's love.
00:20:59Good morning, Rangers.
00:21:11It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
00:21:13It's only 25 days left to go.
00:21:18Soon.
00:21:20Okay, now.
00:21:22Right.
00:21:23A huge amount of early snow plus warm weather gives us a weak lay on the snow blanket.
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:28Weak snowpack on the steep eastern slopes.
00:21:30It's a double whammy.
00:21:31Right.
00:21:31We use digital detonators now, though, so it's more controlled.
00:21:34And a lot safer.
00:21:36Mm-hmm.
00:21:37Let's plan out the charges.
00:21:39All right, so I'm thinking we start here.
00:21:42Then we go, yeah, and then we'll just wipe them.
00:21:48Exactly.
00:21:50Okay.
00:21:50Okay.
00:22:01So then Josh and I have to go to a stepmom's for second Christmas dinner on the 25th,
00:22:16and then we have to go to my dad's for brunch on the 26th, so.
00:22:23Hey, are you even listening to my holiday crappiness?
00:22:26Yeah, it sounds like a lot of food.
00:22:29Maybe you just need to remind Buck what he's missing.
00:22:34Hey, why don't you take a pic with this little gem?
00:22:36Oh.
00:22:39Hey.
00:22:45All right.
00:22:46All right.
00:22:59What did you do to her this time?
00:23:14I just replaced the pump.
00:23:16Still can't seem to get her to go, though.
00:23:18I haven't looked at her yet.
00:23:21Yeah, you give it a go.
00:23:22You know, Buck, I, uh, I heard you've been having some trouble.
00:23:34After you came home because of the, uh, because of the dogs.
00:23:41It's tough to get Afghanistan in my head.
00:23:44Still jolted away some nights.
00:23:47Cold sweats.
00:23:48Yeah, man, me too.
00:23:53Me too.
00:24:03You know, I never told anyone what I see in my nightmares.
00:24:08Not even my own wife.
00:24:10She already has a pretty good idea.
00:24:18Listen, I started to talk to somebody.
00:24:21It helps.
00:24:23It's still there, but...
00:24:26Les.
00:24:28I'll shoot you the number?
00:24:30Yeah.
00:24:33Yeah, Les would be good, man.
00:24:34So, what do you think?
00:24:42What did you do to her?
00:24:45So you work your magic, bucko.
00:24:46This is Buck Thompson.
00:25:06I'm up in snow country, and I can't say when I'll get back to my phone.
00:25:10But leave a message.
00:25:10Okay, here we go.
00:25:28The info on the guy's injuries?
00:25:30Upper body.
00:25:30Maybe a broken collarbone.
00:25:32It's gonna be difficult to transport.
00:25:38Search and rescue.
00:25:39Move them to a clearing up ahead.
00:25:40Okay.
00:26:03Sounds cute, right?
00:26:04Yeah.
00:26:04It won't be long now.
00:26:08Now, till I'm beside you again, it won't be long now, I still remember, smile upon your face, I still remember, I still remember, I hear the bells ringing, I hear the choirs singing,
00:26:36The stars, they guide the way, I see the snow is falling, I hear my heart is crying, calling out your name.
00:26:53Does Wayne Forrest need you that badly?
00:26:56Meg, I agreed to a few days, it's been a few weeks.
00:26:59And I am so grateful.
00:27:00But if you ever need a change of pace, maybe consider transferring up here for a season.
00:27:07I shouldn't entice you now for her, but...
00:27:09Eh, you can't blame me for asking.
00:27:11Look, we make a good team, we're good together.
00:27:16Yeah, we are, but I've got to get home.
00:27:20I've got to make sure I've got time to fuel up and beat the storm.
00:27:24You're not fueled up?
00:27:25But the storm last night blocked all access to the road on the north side.
00:27:31Cars and fuel aren't getting in or out.
00:27:34I'm sorry, Buck.
00:27:36Looks like you're going to be grounded here a few more days.
00:27:41Hey Meg, are you coming?
00:27:43Yeah.
00:27:43Yeah.
00:27:43Hey you.
00:28:04Hey.
00:28:04I was just going to call and tell you that I...
00:28:06Jess, there was a storm last night.
00:28:10The northern road to Avalon is blocked.
00:28:12Oh.
00:28:13Well, if it's that bad, it sounds like your plane is grounded too.
00:28:17Problems with fuel trucks.
00:28:19We can't get through, so I can't start back until they clear out.
00:28:23Okay, no worries.
00:28:25I'll just...
00:28:26see you when I see you.
00:28:28Okay.
00:28:30Did you hear me when I said I can't make it?
00:28:32I did.
00:28:33I heard you.
00:28:33I just...
00:28:34I'm not surprised.
00:28:36I know the weather's bad, and your work...
00:28:39the realities of our life together.
00:28:41Yeah.
00:28:42And I am making peace of that.
00:28:44New Year's then.
00:28:46So you're completely snowed in?
00:28:49Not completely.
00:28:51The northern road is blocked.
00:28:52The other roads are bad, but...
00:28:55they're plowing them now.
00:28:57If I had my truck, I'd be there in a heartbeat.
00:28:58Well, you may not have a vehicle, but I do.
00:29:03Oh, yeah?
00:29:06I'm coming to you.
00:29:09Jess.
00:29:10Jess, that's nuts.
00:29:11The weather's horrible.
00:29:14The roads aren't bad.
00:29:15There's black ice.
00:29:17Accidents happen fast, and this temperature, it's brutal.
00:29:20I can handle winter.
00:29:21Snow shovel, bag of sand, warming candle, blankets.
00:29:26I got it covered.
00:29:26How about I grab a snowmobile?
00:29:31Come meet you halfway.
00:29:33What do you say?
00:29:35Halvers Bay?
00:29:36Halvers Bay.
00:29:37That's right by your uncle's cabin.
00:29:39That's the one.
00:29:41I'll send you the coordinates.
00:29:42It's perfect.
00:29:44No, we don't really have a very good history with cabins, do we?
00:29:47Yeah.
00:29:49It's a good thing bears are hibernating this time of year.
00:29:51Although the weather can be just as dangerous as the bears.
00:29:54Well, I'll get a good night's sleep and leave for seeing in the morning.
00:29:57I'll kiss you soon.
00:30:00And Jess, be careful.
00:30:03I will.
00:30:03I will.
00:30:17Ag, are you sure you want to come?
00:30:34Look, no one knows these backwoods like I do.
00:30:37Plus, my shortcuts will get you to Halvers Bay in half the time.
00:30:41It's Christmas Eve.
00:30:42You should be at home.
00:30:45I don't have anyone waiting for me.
00:30:47Let me help.
00:30:49I'm the reason that you've been here for so long.
00:30:52Plus, it'll be good to just ride for fun.
00:30:56Like we used to.
00:31:01Don't expect me to go easy on you.
00:31:03It's like that, is it?
00:31:05Mm-hmm.
00:31:11Trying to keep up.
00:31:17Merry Christmas Eve day, Rangers.
00:31:26I hope your day is as merry and sugary sweet as these cookies.
00:31:31Come and get them.
00:31:31Come and get them.
00:31:32Come and let us adore him.
00:31:35Come and let us adore him.
00:31:37Christ the Lord.
00:31:48Hi.
00:31:49Oh, hi.
00:31:54May I help you?
00:31:54Thanks.
00:31:55Thank you so much for offering to dog sit.
00:31:58No problem.
00:31:59It'll be fine.
00:32:01No, thank you.
00:32:04How do I get him to stop staring at me like that?
00:32:07Oh, that's just how he shows affection.
00:32:10He likes you.
00:32:11Oh.
00:32:12Hmm.
00:32:14Cute.
00:32:14Um, hi.
00:32:16Here's a nice pat for you.
00:32:21Yeah, I'll be honest.
00:32:22I'm more of a cat person.
00:32:24Because we, you know, mutually respect each other's independence.
00:32:28But family helps one another out, so.
00:32:32You consider me a part of your family?
00:32:37Look, um, I know loving someone who's devoted their entire life to the service isn't easy.
00:32:45I'm just not really sure he even wants a relationship.
00:32:50He struggles to commit to the tiniest things.
00:32:53Try not to blame him for that.
00:32:56It's the job.
00:32:58I know.
00:33:00Hmm.
00:33:01See?
00:33:02You're more of a Thompson than you realize.
00:33:07This is for you.
00:33:14Compass?
00:33:17It was my dad's.
00:33:20It's for good luck on a long trip.
00:33:23Oh, I don't want to take something so personal.
00:33:25No, I...
00:33:26Please, I want you to have it.
00:33:29Just bring it and Buck back to us for Christmas.
00:33:31I will.
00:33:34And I'll make sure we get back for Walter's candlelight service.
00:33:38Okay, you be a good boy for Roma, okay?
00:33:40Okay?
00:33:42Mm-hmm.
00:33:50Oh, you gotta smell.
00:33:55We're gonna take a shortcut.
00:34:06You want to go south?
00:34:08Just trust me.
00:34:09Make sure you stay on my tracks.
00:35:10Uncle Walt's candlelight service.
00:35:13Cookie?
00:35:15To have the metabolism of a 27-year-old again,
00:35:18we've got to stay alert for last-minute shoppers today.
00:35:21Definitely.
00:35:23It's still pretty early, though, if you want your morning coffee.
00:35:25Well, I'm good to start watch.
00:35:27Thanks.
00:35:31Aunt Janine,
00:35:32is there a reason you didn't let Jess help with the detail?
00:35:36Well, and I quote,
00:35:37we have it covered this year.
00:35:41It's a Thompson family tradition, that's all.
00:35:44She makes Buck happy.
00:35:46I know you see that.
00:35:47Roma and I see that.
00:35:48She might be part of your family one day.
00:35:50When Walt left,
00:35:52he entrusted the detail to me.
00:35:54He felt it was important that people respect the trees in our state forest.
00:35:59Now I'm in charge of protecting those trees.
00:36:04Okay.
00:36:04And by not inviting her to the family tradition,
00:36:07you're just trying to protect the forest, right?
00:36:12Not Buck?
00:36:21Hey!
00:36:25Too many rocks.
00:36:27It's too dangerous.
00:36:28Let's head back to the trail.
00:36:29Come on!
00:36:31We've driven through much worse before.
00:36:33Let's keep going.
00:36:34We're almost at the pass,
00:36:35and now we're not much farther from there.
00:36:37I've seen too much.
00:36:38Let's go.
00:36:40Come on.
00:36:41Okay.
00:36:41Okay.
00:36:42Okay.
00:36:59Enough with the staring.
00:37:16You like me.
00:37:17I get that.
00:37:18That's great.
00:37:19But enough.
00:37:26At ease, boy.
00:37:27Eyes, front.
00:37:36Fine.
00:37:37Don't listen to my commands.
00:37:39I don't care.
00:37:41Hey, I was using that.
00:37:43No, that's the right.
00:37:48You okay?
00:37:55I'll get you up.
00:37:57I should have seen that log.
00:38:06It's okay.
00:38:07It's not your fault.
00:38:08That log came out of nowhere.
00:38:19Well,
00:38:20at least we're close to the cabin.
00:38:22But what about your shoulder?
00:38:29You're not wincing for nothing.
00:38:31You don't miss a thing?
00:38:33Nope.
00:38:36Do me a favor.
00:38:39Let me tell Ted about his machine.
00:38:41But it'd be so much more fun if I could tell him.
00:38:44I beg.
00:38:44This whole thing?
00:38:47He won't care.
00:38:48His wife's getting him a new one for Christmas.
00:39:01Buck, it's okay.
00:39:02It's okay.
00:39:04You're safe.
00:39:06Come back to me.
00:39:07I think it's time to go home.
00:39:17Okay.
00:39:19We'll get you there.
00:39:21But let's just take a little break first, okay?
00:39:24I'll make us a fire.
00:39:27We can have some coffee.
00:39:28And then we'll keep going.
00:39:31Sounds good.
00:39:36What about that storm?
00:39:40It's not supposed to hit until later tonight.
00:39:42Long after we're both back home.
00:39:47Why?
00:39:54What?
00:39:54I don't know.
00:40:24I don't know.
00:40:54I don't know.
00:41:24I don't know.
00:41:54I don't know.
00:42:24I don't know.
00:42:54I'm ready for the Christmas parade in town.
00:42:59Sorry I don't have another vehicle to offer you.
00:43:00I've got some beautiful dogs.
00:43:06Yep.
00:43:07The best.
00:43:09Fast as anything.
00:43:11Yeah, I can see that.
00:43:13Every winter I spend a few weeks with my aunt and uncle up in Alaska.
00:43:16They have about 50 dogs.
00:43:17They have about 50 dogs.
00:43:19They train them.
00:43:2150?
00:43:22Yeah.
00:43:24It's the best way to travel.
00:43:26Yep.
00:43:27Sure is.
00:43:28Your best friend's over here.
00:43:32You just have to watch for a few turns.
00:43:35I am here.
00:43:36You want to head all the way down here to where the path opens.
00:43:40You want to cross the pass, and there's the cabin.
00:43:44Just over the river.
00:43:45So it's not too far?
00:43:46Not too far at all.
00:43:48Good for the pups.
00:43:48They need a good run.
00:43:51Thank you for trusting me with them.
00:43:53I'll have them back before the storm sets in.
00:43:56You're welcome.
00:43:56Phyke!
00:44:04Phyke!
00:44:05Phyke!
00:44:05Phyke!
00:44:06Phyke!
00:44:26Phyke!
00:44:26I just don't know if Jessica has the grit she'll need to be in relationship with Buck.
00:44:32You saw how upset she was when he had to leave at Thanksgiving.
00:44:38Seems more like love to me.
00:44:40I don't understand not being with your family over the holidays.
00:44:46I mean, does she come from a solid family?
00:44:49Yes. They just celebrate differently is all.
00:44:53Buck says she speaks to her mom, dad, and brother almost every day.
00:44:57They're artists. They travel around a lot.
00:45:00Just a little less traditional than us is all.
00:45:04Well, it's fine that not every family is the same.
00:45:08As long as she's a good fit with ours.
00:45:12Aunt Janine, I know this time of year is hard for you and you're missing Uncle Walt.
00:45:19But remember how he'd always make room at the table for others?
00:45:24If he hadn't done that for me, I wouldn't be here.
00:45:33Oh, wait a minute. I've got one.
00:45:37Wait a minute.
00:45:45Two greedy Grinches.
00:45:47Amara.
00:45:48I'm on it.
00:45:56Whoa!
00:45:57Whoa!
00:45:57Whoa!
00:45:58Whoa!
00:45:59Whoa!
00:46:00Whoa!
00:46:00Whoa!
00:46:01Whoa!
00:46:01Whoa!
00:46:02Whoa!
00:46:03Whoa!
00:46:04Whoa!
00:46:05Whoa!
00:46:06Whoa!
00:46:07What am I doing?
00:46:10OK, guys.
00:46:11Good job, guys.
00:46:13Good job.
00:46:27OK, guys.
00:46:32OK, guys.
00:46:34Good job, guys.
00:46:36Good job.
00:46:36OK.
00:46:37Stop right there.
00:47:04Back away from the tree.
00:47:07Do you have a permit to cut this tree down?
00:47:11What's a permit?
00:47:15Come with me.
00:47:20Who sent you?
00:47:22No one.
00:47:23Stealing trees from the Wayne National Forest to sell at Christmas is not allowed.
00:47:29Are we in trouble?
00:47:31Oh, I'd say so.
00:47:32Please, ma'am, you can't tell our mom.
00:47:34I can.
00:47:35And I will.
00:47:37They're just kids.
00:47:38Then I think you're the perfect age to learn about the consequences of your actions.
00:47:43Don't you think?
00:47:48Good job, guys.
00:47:51Good job.
00:47:54Figure out where I am.
00:47:55We're here.
00:47:56We're close.
00:48:07We have to be close.
00:48:08Okay, guys, don't even think I'm going anywhere this time.
00:48:28Okay.
00:48:28How often are you still having PTSD episodes?
00:48:45And are you still having PTSD episodes?
00:48:50Not as much anymore.
00:48:53That's something I just...
00:48:55I've seen someone about it.
00:48:59Sleeping about it, too.
00:49:02What about Roma?
00:49:04What about her?
00:49:05Well, how has she transitioned back to civilian life?
00:49:09Oh.
00:49:11Did she ever remarry?
00:49:14Re-what?
00:49:16Uh...
00:49:17Sorry, I...
00:49:21Spit it out.
00:49:22I don't think it was official.
00:49:25It was just a private ceremony at the base.
00:49:27I thought you knew.
00:49:30Roma is definitely not married.
00:49:35Well, no.
00:49:36He went missing on his tour.
00:49:40He never made it back home.
00:49:41She never said anything.
00:49:56We've all been trained to set our emotions aside.
00:50:02That doesn't make it any easier.
00:50:06I know what it's like to love somebody
00:50:08and to not have them in your life.
00:50:19Hi.
00:50:20Good night.
00:50:21Would you...
00:50:22reconsider moving back to Avalon Pass?
00:50:27I...
00:50:28I think there's more for you in the mountains than you think.
00:50:34Hey, I...
00:50:35Merry Christmas, Fox.
00:50:36I hope I'm not interrupting anything.
00:50:39Jess.
00:50:41What are you doing here?
00:50:43Why aren't you in your car?
00:50:45Well, my car cocked out,
00:50:47so I left it with a mechanic.
00:50:49Really nice guy.
00:50:50His name's Bob.
00:50:51Bored his dog sled so I could go on a romantic Christmas getaway
00:50:55with my boyfriend.
00:50:58Hey, I'm Meg.
00:51:00I...
00:51:01What brings you to these snowy parts, Meg?
00:51:04Well, I was...
00:51:05I was just trying to show Buck a shortcut through the backwoods,
00:51:07and then...
00:51:08It was actually quite a funny story.
00:51:09We were racing through the forest,
00:51:11and we had a bit of an accident,
00:51:12and then...
00:51:12It was pretty thrilling, though, wasn't it?
00:51:15Anyways, then we had to double on my snowmobile to get...
00:51:18Jess.
00:51:20Jess!
00:51:22What?
00:51:23Jess!
00:51:27Jess!
00:51:29Jess, where are you going?
00:51:31Home.
00:51:32But I thought your car needed repairs.
00:51:34Yeah, it does.
00:51:35But I would rather wait for Bob to come home from the Santa parade
00:51:38than watch you have lunch all cozy with Meg.
00:51:40Nothing is going on.
00:51:42I was coming to see you.
00:51:43Meg was just helping me get there faster,
00:51:44and then I hit this log.
00:51:48Jess, please.
00:51:49We haven't seen each other in weeks,
00:51:52and I missed you.
00:51:53I didn't want things to start off this way.
00:51:57Me neither.
00:51:58Okay.
00:51:59We're off to a bumpy start,
00:52:01but the cabin, it's gonna be nice.
00:52:04Yeah?
00:52:06You know,
00:52:07all I wanted was just to spend a few hours with you.
00:52:12No work, no rocks, no agenda, no other people.
00:52:16You know?
00:52:18I do.
00:52:20So when we get to the cabin,
00:52:22Meg is gonna leave,
00:52:23and it's just gonna be you and me.
00:52:25Meg is coming to the cabin?
00:52:27Your head is full of jingle bells
00:52:29if you think that's happening.
00:52:30Yeah.
00:52:30Okay.
00:52:34Here, bring your pack!
00:52:40I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.
00:52:43It's okay.
00:52:46What's going on?
00:52:47No, I was taking him down to get a drink by the river,
00:52:49and the poor guy stepped into this fox trap.
00:52:52Meg,
00:52:53he's anti-septic in God's water.
00:52:55In the bag.
00:52:56Yes, he'll hold his shoulders down
00:52:57so he doesn't bite himself.
00:52:58All right.
00:52:59Okay, I got him.
00:52:59We'll tell you.
00:53:00Yeah.
00:53:02Easy.
00:53:03Easy.
00:53:04Come on.
00:53:05Come on.
00:53:05Come on, baby.
00:53:07I got you.
00:53:08Come on, baby.
00:53:09Come on, baby.
00:53:09Come on, baby.
00:53:10Come on, baby.
00:53:10Come on, baby.
00:53:11Come on, baby.
00:53:11Come on, baby.
00:53:12Come on, baby.
00:53:13Come on, baby.
00:53:13Come on, baby.
00:53:14Come on, baby.
00:53:14Come on, baby.
00:53:15Come on, baby.
00:53:17It's okay.
00:53:17It's okay.
00:53:19It's okay.
00:53:21Okay.
00:53:21It's okay.
00:53:22Just get him on the side.
00:53:22Yeah.
00:53:22It's okay.
00:53:29It's okay.
00:53:30I got him.
00:53:31I'll be right behind it.
00:53:32Okay.
00:53:36I shouldn't have taken him that way.
00:53:38I shouldn't have taken him to the river.
00:53:39I could have made a few trips
00:53:41and just brought him water.
00:53:42I could have brought all four of them water.
00:53:46I'm so sorry.
00:53:48It's not on you.
00:53:49It's not your fault.
00:53:51The trap is old.
00:53:52It looks like it's been there for a long time.
00:53:55And if the wounds aren't that deep,
00:53:57it's gonna be okay.
00:54:00I know.
00:54:04Hey, Meg.
00:54:06Listen.
00:54:09I need you to know how important Jess is to me.
00:54:12I care about her a lot.
00:54:18More than I've cared about anyone before.
00:54:23More than you care about me.
00:54:29Make a great team.
00:54:32But we wouldn't have been friends this long
00:54:34if we weren't honest with each other.
00:54:36Yeah?
00:54:37Yeah.
00:54:39I can see how you feel about Jessica.
00:54:41I saw the way that you looked at her.
00:54:47You should tell her.
00:54:50She knows how I feel.
00:54:53She drove through a blizzard
00:54:55and rode a dog sled to get to you.
00:54:57You should tell her.
00:54:58Okay.
00:55:09Okay.
00:55:10Seriously, this is a lot.
00:55:11I...
00:55:12I already have a best friend.
00:55:14So...
00:55:14The winter comes on way too fast.
00:55:19The fall just never seems to last.
00:55:26But will you love me the same
00:55:30when the snow meets windowpane?
00:55:33Will you leave me with the red and orange leaves?
00:55:39I fear you'll break me Christmas time.
00:55:44I fear you'll break me Christmas time.
00:55:48Will you finally draw the line?
00:55:53Or will you stay with me this year?
00:55:56Or will you stay with me this year?
00:55:57I don't wanna shed a tear
00:56:00When they sing their songs
00:56:03And turn on all the lights
00:56:07So wrap me up like a gift
00:56:14Give me one last Christmas kiss
00:56:21Don't leave me out in the cold
00:56:24You still love me, let me know
00:56:28We're always here in the snow
00:56:33I'll wait here in the snow
00:56:39Thanks, Charlie.
00:56:47Sure you're gonna be okay with these guys?
00:56:49Thanks.
00:56:50I got this.
00:56:52Why don't you just come with us to the cabin
00:56:54We can all go back together.
00:56:56I gotta get this little guy some medical attention.
00:57:00And then...
00:57:01I'm gonna have Santa Bob make me a giant hot chocolate.
00:57:05He actually makes his own marshmallows.
00:57:07Can you believe it?
00:57:09Merry Christmas, Viddick.
00:57:11Merry Christmas, Jessica.
00:57:14Peace, sir.
00:57:18Hike!
00:57:20You're pretty amazing back there.
00:57:29You're good at what you do.
00:57:33Rescuing people while being all handsome and brave.
00:57:38Really?
00:57:38Yeah.
00:57:42Look, I'm really sorry about all that.
00:57:46She is really just a good friend.
00:57:49I can't help how handsome and brave I am to other people.
00:57:53Please.
00:57:53I only care how handsome and brave I am to you.
00:58:00Better get going.
00:58:02I like the look of the sky.
00:58:04Looks like the storm is rolling here.
00:58:05That's what we thought.
00:58:06Well, the cabin's just on the other side of the pass.
00:58:09You're fine.
00:58:11Right.
00:58:13Just a couple more hours and we'll be curled up by a fireplace somewhere.
00:58:17Visibility's getting worse.
00:58:18Temperature's dropping and we're losing daily.
00:58:22Your worst case scenario is all happening right now.
00:58:25Did you hear that?
00:58:38Is it what I think they are?
00:58:44I love tracks.
00:58:46Great.
00:58:47Welcome to Howler's Bay.
00:59:08Like this?
00:59:09That's it.
00:59:10And if you want, you can eat some.
00:59:12That's the fun part.
00:59:14When you're finished, you can take it home.
00:59:17For your tree.
00:59:19We don't have a tree this year.
00:59:22Mom said we can't afford it.
00:59:24That's right.
00:59:25We wanted to surprise her with one for Christmas to make her happy.
00:59:30She's been sad.
00:59:33That's thoughtful of you.
00:59:37Hey, can you make me one?
00:59:39I'll be right back.
00:59:41I want you to know they weren't taking this tree to sell it.
00:59:45Sounds like they're having a hard time at home.
00:59:47Well, that's still no reason to resort to petty crime.
00:59:51Behavior like this would never have been tolerated when I was a junior ranger.
00:59:54I know.
00:59:55We have to protect the forest.
00:59:58Oh, I think Mom's coming.
01:00:00Sorry.
01:00:01I got here as soon as I could.
01:00:03Not to worry.
01:00:03I think the weight gave your kids some time to think.
01:00:05They were stealing a tree.
01:00:06They were stealing a tree.
01:00:08Really?
01:00:11Sorry.
01:00:12My kids are good kids.
01:00:14I just haven't been able to keep them in line and do everything without James being here.
01:00:19James is your husband?
01:00:20Yeah.
01:00:22He's a petroleum engineer.
01:00:24He's away on an oil rig for six months.
01:00:27I worry about him.
01:00:29It's hard to celebrate when he's gone.
01:00:32If you were to come to the bakery, I'd be more than happy to make this up to you with
01:00:38some fresh cinnamon rolls for Christmas.
01:00:41Mom!
01:00:43Hi, sweetheart.
01:00:44I'm sorry, Mom.
01:00:45Are we in trouble?
01:00:48We just wanted you to have a treat.
01:00:50Can we go home now?
01:00:52Rachel, Marcus, I'm afraid you can't leave just yet.
01:00:56I expect you to make this right.
01:01:15Where to gas?
01:01:19It's impossible.
01:01:21The gauge says phone.
01:01:24Please.
01:01:39I guess the gauge is broken.
01:01:42Great.
01:01:43Well, how far is the cabin from here?
01:01:49Just across the river.
01:01:52You up for a hike?
01:01:54Yeah, let's do it.
01:02:07There you go.
01:02:10Go ahead.
01:02:13So, these decorations need to find a new home.
01:02:18On your tree.
01:02:20The one you didn't cut down.
01:02:23Thanks, Miss Thompson.
01:02:25Can we go decorate it now?
01:02:26Off you go.
01:02:27Follow me.
01:02:29You're welcome.
01:02:30Thank you for making them happy.
01:02:33You know, the Rangers and I could always use help in the forest.
01:02:36Maybe your kids would like to join the Junior Rangers.
01:02:42They would love that.
01:02:46Merry Christmas.
01:02:49Merry Christmas.
01:02:53Go on.
01:02:54Go on.
01:02:55Is that my father's compass?
01:03:04Yeah.
01:03:05Roma gave it to me for a trip.
01:03:08She did.
01:03:10She must like you.
01:03:12Yeah, I like her too.
01:03:14She's actually watching Charlie for me.
01:03:16Roma's dog, Sydney.
01:03:18Wow.
01:03:19She must really like you.
01:03:21Wow.
01:03:22She kind of seemed happy to have something with me.
01:03:25Although, she's more of a cat person.
01:03:30Roma to Charlie.
01:03:32Roma to Charlie.
01:03:33Requesting permission to land.
01:03:35There you go.
01:03:37Of course I brought a treat for you.
01:03:40I am your Santa.
01:03:41Just don't tell Jessica I'm giving you treats, okay?
01:03:44Why, she won't let me dog suit you anymore.
01:03:48Where is she?
01:03:49We should be getting ready by now.
01:03:53Quiet up there.
01:03:56I hate to fly from Jessica.
01:03:59Why not?
01:04:01Yes.
01:04:03You talk endlessly when you're excited.
01:04:05You laugh when you're nervous.
01:04:08You bite your lip.
01:04:08When you try not to laugh at your own joke,
01:04:11and you are quiet when you are overthinking.
01:04:16You know, you don't know everything about me, Buck Thompson.
01:04:19We've only been dating a few months.
01:04:21But I've liked everything I've learned about you.
01:04:24Especially your rock puns.
01:04:27Well, I've missed you.
01:04:31I realized all I wanted to do was just be with you,
01:04:34and you were up with Meg rescuing people and saving people's lives
01:04:39and making the world a better place and...
01:04:41Yeah, precious things, Jess.
01:04:44You make the world so much better than I ever could
01:04:47just by being you.
01:04:54Get back.
01:04:55Yeah, I know.
01:05:09Scary foxes.
01:05:11Shh.
01:05:13Can we please just shake this whole Meg thing off?
01:05:16I can't control how she feels.
01:05:20All I can control is how I feel,
01:05:22and I really want to spend Christmas with my girlfriend.
01:05:32Better?
01:05:33Much.
01:05:34I know how I feel about you, too.
01:05:40And the jumping helps.
01:05:43A little.
01:05:45I kind of feel my toes again.
01:05:48Sort of.
01:05:53Something across through here.
01:05:55The river's just over that hill.
01:05:58Well, I read the map, too, and...
01:06:01It's not going to take much longer
01:06:04if we stick to the safer route.
01:06:09Okay.
01:06:11You lead the way.
01:06:31Do you think Dad would like this?
01:06:40How could he not?
01:06:42Look how beautiful it is.
01:06:45Yeah.
01:06:46I think it was perfect.
01:06:49Well,
01:06:49you can come back next year
01:06:51and decorate it again.
01:06:53Plus,
01:06:53everyone who comes to the woods
01:06:54can see it.
01:06:56It's beautiful.
01:07:00Thank you, Amara.
01:07:02Hello.
01:07:04Hi, Charlie.
01:07:05Merry Christmas Eve.
01:07:08Hello to you, too.
01:07:09Hi.
01:07:11So,
01:07:11how were your first dog adventures going?
01:07:14Oh, I'd say
01:07:14we had a really good time,
01:07:16didn't we?
01:07:17Yes, we did.
01:07:18Didn't think you were much of a dog person.
01:07:21I'd say
01:07:22I'm more of a Charlie person.
01:07:24You guys ready to go?
01:07:26Yeah,
01:07:26I just need to grab my coat
01:07:27and, of course,
01:07:28his spooky toy.
01:07:29Right.
01:07:30Come on.
01:07:30Hey, Ann Janine,
01:07:40Roma and I are getting ready to go.
01:07:42Hey,
01:07:43listen,
01:07:43have you heard from Buck?
01:07:45I'd like my son here
01:07:46for church on Christmas Eve.
01:07:48Jessica promised she'd call
01:07:50when she gets to the cabin.
01:07:51They're just catching up.
01:07:55Right.
01:07:55Well, okay.
01:07:57She knows to drive him back in time
01:07:59for our family celebrations.
01:08:00So if that doesn't earn the girls
01:08:02some serious points in your books,
01:08:03I don't know what will.
01:08:05Okay, so where on earth are they?
01:08:07I don't know.
01:08:10But Buck wouldn't deviate from the plan.
01:08:11They must be close.
01:08:13Right.
01:08:14Well,
01:08:14I suppose if anyone could make it
01:08:15through the wild,
01:08:16it's those two.
01:08:18You know,
01:08:19singing
01:08:20might help warm us up.
01:08:22No chance.
01:08:23It's okay.
01:08:40It's okay.
01:08:42It's okay.
01:08:43It's okay.
01:08:43There's a sound.
01:08:53Howling.
01:08:55I know.
01:08:57It's haunting.
01:09:01We're getting close.
01:09:02I can hear the river.
01:09:05It's gonna be dangerous,
01:09:06but it's the only way to get home.
01:09:07Okay.
01:09:10I know.
01:09:10We need to get home.
01:09:17I could really freeze up out of here.
01:09:21Don't even joke about frostbite.
01:09:25Come on.
01:09:40The river sounds like it's running fast.
01:09:42It sounds dangerous.
01:09:45The cabin's just on the other side.
01:09:49The river looks higher this year.
01:09:51Well,
01:09:52looks like we're spending Christmas in the wilds.
01:09:55We either cross the river
01:09:56or we sleep outside.
01:10:01We have no idea how deep that is.
01:10:03What will kill us first,
01:10:04the freezing cold river
01:10:06or the current.
01:10:10It's fine.
01:10:11A better place to cross.
01:10:11The water's shallower here.
01:10:34Even in the middle.
01:10:36It should only go up to about mid-thigh.
01:10:39It's narrower, too,
01:10:40so it'll be quicker to get across.
01:10:43It's easy.
01:10:46We're not gonna find a better way to cross.
01:10:48The current only gets stronger
01:10:49the further down we go.
01:10:52It's dangerous.
01:10:54We have to do this.
01:10:55No, I-I-I know.
01:11:00I'm not gonna let anything happen to you.
01:11:03Just think of that cabin
01:11:04on the other side of that ridge.
01:11:06Big warm fire that's waiting for us.
01:11:10You're making future plans now?
01:11:12Yes, I need you to trust me.
01:11:15We can do this.
01:11:16You and I.
01:11:18Together.
01:11:18Together.
01:11:20Okay.
01:11:22Okay.
01:11:31It's cold.
01:11:33Uh, no, wait, wait.
01:11:35I don't think I can do this.
01:11:36Guys, keep going.
01:11:38Quick, but steady.
01:11:47What the fuck?
01:11:48What the fuck?
01:11:50What?
01:11:53What?
01:11:53What?
01:11:58What?
01:12:11What?
01:12:17What?
01:12:18What?
01:12:18What?
01:12:18I don't know.
01:12:48Come on.
01:13:18You need to get your boots new recals off now.
01:13:25Hey, I'm gonna make a fire and call your mom tomorrow.
01:13:48So how do I look?
01:14:13Very handsome and brave. Festive.
01:14:20Here, let me take this. Sit down.
01:14:26Is radio working this time?
01:14:28Yeah. I radioed in our position to Amara.
01:14:32Your mom was relieved to hear we were okay.
01:14:35Another hour, she would have sent out a search party.
01:14:39But she did manage to save us some of her homemade eggnog.
01:14:42She is starting to like you.
01:14:44Well, I am the beautiful, courageous woman who made it through the forest.
01:14:50And across that river with her son.
01:14:53Jess. Jess, please.
01:14:55I'm more likely to die of blanket suffocation than hypothermia at this point.
01:15:00I promise. I'm good.
01:15:01I'm good.
01:15:02Just one more.
01:15:07Here.
01:15:08You're looking better.
01:15:09Blue lips weren't a great look for you.
01:15:23I'm gonna remember that for next time.
01:15:25You know, Buck, thank you for getting us across that river.
01:15:32But I'd appreciate it if you'd stop doing such dangerous things.
01:15:35You know, I'm tired of having to save you.
01:15:38Oh, really?
01:15:39Yeah.
01:15:40Well, I think we saved each other this time.
01:15:49Come here.
01:15:56Well, looks like we get to spend Christmas Eve together after all.
01:16:00I'm grateful.
01:16:05Me too.
01:16:07Hey, Jess.
01:16:09Ever since I got back from Afghanistan, I've been keeping the ones I love at a distance.
01:16:20Even you.
01:16:25And I know that these last few weeks have been difficult being separated.
01:16:30But if we went away from each other, I wouldn't have realized how much I want that to change.
01:16:41Forever.
01:16:46I want you to have something.
01:16:51My lucky rock?
01:16:53It's just a stand-in.
01:16:56For now.
01:16:59Until I can get you a much more sparkly one.
01:17:06Jessica Holloway.
01:17:09I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
01:17:13Will you marry me?
01:17:15Yes.
01:17:17Yes, sis.
01:17:20I love you, Jess.
01:17:26I love you more.
01:17:28That's not possible.
01:17:34I do realize we have to get home for Christmas Eve dinner now.
01:17:38Or Mom's gonna kill us both.
01:17:39Yeah, I know.
01:17:50I can't believe I have to do this again.
01:17:52I admit it. You like it.
01:17:55Wow, that is quite the outfit. Very festive.
01:17:56Yeah. It's keeping me warm.
01:17:58I can see that.
01:17:59I can see that.
01:18:00Well, we have a Christmas Eve to get to.
01:18:01We cannot be late for service.
01:18:02You're welcome for the rescue.
01:18:03Rescue?
01:18:04That's not what this was.
01:18:05You just came in and gave me fashion advice.
01:18:06I can't believe I have to do this again.

01:18:08I admit it.
01:18:09You like it.

01:18:20We cannot be late for service.
01:18:23You're welcome for the rescue.
01:18:24Rescue?
01:18:25That's not what this was.
01:18:26You just came in and gave me fashion advice.
01:18:29Come on.
01:18:32Thank you so much for bringing him home in one piece.
01:18:36I'm so glad to be here.
01:18:38Me too.
01:18:43Congratulations.
01:18:46Proud of you.
01:18:50A rock, though?
01:18:52Yeah.
01:18:53That's a long story.
01:18:54Maybe I'll tell you another time.
01:18:56Okay.
01:18:58Hey.
01:18:59I know...
01:19:01I didn't get you for Secret Santa this year,
01:19:03but I did get you a gift.
01:19:06What are you talking about?
01:19:09I made some calls.
01:19:11And we're gonna find them.
01:19:13You're missing a soldier.
01:19:27You know what helps to talk to somebody?
01:19:28Mm-hmm.
01:19:29Just take it from somebody who knows
01:19:31how hard it is to come home.
01:19:34Yeah.
01:19:35Hello.
01:19:36A toast.
01:19:37Yes.
01:19:38Come gather around, kids.
01:19:39I know.
01:19:40Can't wait.
01:19:41Nothing formal.
01:19:42Nothing fancy.
01:19:43I would just like to make a toast to love and to family.
01:19:49To Uncle Walt.
01:19:50To Uncle Walt.

01:20:28You need a jacket.
01:20:32I lost mine in the river, Ma.
01:20:35I'm just glad I didn't lose you with that river.
01:20:39Okay, stand by.
01:20:41Okay.
01:20:42See?
01:20:48Dad's coat.
01:20:49Yeah.

01:21:19Jessica, after you.
01:21:20Okay, let's go.
01:21:24Nice jacket.
01:21:25This is so beautiful.
01:21:39Dad always taught us, especially at Christmas, we should share the joy.
01:21:51Well, that's easy for you guys.
01:21:53You all have beautiful voices.
01:21:55Um, I've heard your voice.
01:21:57It's beautiful, too.
01:21:58So beautiful.
01:22:04Makes me think of Dad.
01:22:06Me, too, sweetheart.
01:22:07We light these candles to keep them safe.
01:22:11Silent night, holy night.
01:22:13Silent night, holy night.
01:22:22All is calm, all is high.
01:22:31Brown, young virgin, mother and child.
01:22:39Holy infant, so tender and mild.
01:22:47Sleep in heavenly peace.
01:22:56Sleep in heavenly peace.

01:23:37Merry Christmas.
01:23:45Hey.
01:23:45You know, this has been a pretty great Christmas Eve.
01:23:50You're the best present I could have ever asked for.
01:23:55You're mine, too.
01:23:58You know, I don't think we could have planned a better holiday if we tried.
01:24:01Yeah.
01:24:03Other than the blizzard, extreme cold, and icy river.
01:24:07The cabin was nice.
01:24:09Yeah.
01:24:09There's no way to your shower tonight.
01:24:16That's okay.
01:24:18I think I've had enough of the wonders of nature for now.
01:24:21I am perfectly content with a boring life with my fiance.
01:24:27I think our life together is going to be anything but boring.
01:24:32I think so, too.
01:24:39I think so, too.
01:25:09Oh, come on, ye faithful, joyful, and triumphant.
01:25:27Come, ye, oh, come ye to give Him.
01:25:34Come, ye, oh, come and behold Him.
01:25:38Born the King of Angels.

01:25:49Come, let us adore Him.
01:25:53Christ, Lord.
