Sir Keir Starmer held a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G20 summit, where the pair discussed UK–Canada cooperation, progress on the UK’s accession to the CPTPP, and ongoing coordination over Ukraine. Carney praised the UK’s leadership within the “coalition of the willing”, while Starmer thanked Canada for formally tabling the UK’s accession treaty.

00:00On the trade side, we've tabled, since we last saw in our Parliament, the Accession Treaty for the UK, one of the successes under your premiership coming into the CPTPP.
00:12No, thank you for doing that. You said you'd do it.
00:15And it's a big advantage for us that the UK is part of that, and so a host of other areas where we're cooperating.
00:23And then some of the challenging geopolitical issues, obviously we'll talk about further, about Ukraine, you talked earlier today.
00:30And I think one of the things I've just underscored more broadly is that the leadership that you've had with President Macron of the Coalition in the Willing,
00:40of which Canada is a part, is an important component of the potential and necessary peace process.
00:49So, working on the modalities of that and beyond together in the future.
00:54Yeah, no, thank you on the CPTPP, it really makes a difference, really pleased about that, so thank you.
