00:14but wants to build what he calls a unique alliance with the 27-nation bloc.
00:20We're not looking to become a member of the European Union.
00:23And what we are looking and will begin discussions for a unique alliance with the European Union,
00:31between Canada and the European Union.
00:33We share the same values, we have the same priorities, and we have very complementary strengths.
00:39We're stronger together and this is at a time where the world is more dangerous and divided
00:43and friends need to stick together at these times.
00:46Carney was responding to a Wall Street Journal report that Ottawa was exploring associate member status with the EU,
00:53which is a yet-to-be-created category.
00:56The report added that Canada and the EU are also discussing ways to make it easier
01:01for goods, services and people to move between them in areas such as energy, AI, defense and critical minerals.
01:09Canada's escalating trade war with the U.S. has added urgency to its strategic pivot towards other trading partners.
