00:00Scarlett Johansson is looking back and criticizing Black Widow's portrayal in Iron Man 2.
00:06While the character has long been a fan-favorite Avenger and is now set to finally lead her own
00:11standalone movie, Johansson suggested her character's portrayal in 2010's Iron Man 2
00:16missed the mark. In an interview this week with Collider, Johansson began by noting that her
00:21character has evolved over the years and part of that has been due to her own evolution as a person
00:25and an actress. She then noted, all of that is related to that move away from the kind of
00:30hyper-sexualization of this character. And I mean, you look at Iron Man 2 and while it was really fun
00:36and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualized, you know? Really talked about
00:41like she's a piece of something, like a possession or a thing. The actress also pointed to one particular
00:46scene in the film involving Tony Stark in which her character was objectified.
00:50That will be all, Ms. Rushman. Thank you very much.
00:55I want one. No. She added,
00:58It's changing now. Now people, young girls, are getting a much more positive message.
01:03But it's been incredible to be a part of that shift and be able to come out the other side
01:06and be a part of that old story, but also progress. Johansson's upcoming film Black Widow is a prequel
01:12set after the events in Captain America Civil War, with Natasha Romanoff confronting a dangerous
01:17conspiracy from her past. The film will be released July 9th in theaters and on Disney+.
