The premiere of the highly anticipated series 'Star Trek: Discovery' has finally been announced, with the first half of season one kicking off Sept. 24th, and the second half of the season launching in January 2018.

00:00Great unifiers are few and far between, but they do come.
00:04Get excited, Trekkies, because Star Trek Discovery is no longer light years away.
00:10CBS announced on Monday that the highly anticipated series will finally launch on Sunday,
00:15September 24th at 8.30pm. CBS All Access will make the first two episodes available to stream
00:22that same night. The subsequent episodes will premiere exclusively on the streaming service
00:27every Sunday. Discovery will have its 15-episode premiere season split into two chapters,
00:33with the first eight episodes airing through until November 5th, and then the remaining
00:37seven hitting screens in January 2018. The long-awaited series will be accompanied by a
00:42weekly after-show called Talking Trek, which will also launch exclusively on CBS All Access.
00:49Star Trek Discovery will follow the voyages of Starfleet on their various missions to discover
00:54new worlds and life forms. Fans can also expect to see a new ship, new missions, and new
01:03characters, yet still look forward to the franchise's well-known ideology and hope for the future.

01:11The September premiere has been almost two years in the making, as the show was first ordered
01:16to series in late 2015, and originally intended to premiere before The Good Fight in 2017.
01:22The exit of original showrunner Brian Fuller resulted in the premiere being pushed to May
01:27and then to late summer, early fall, whereas The Good Fight premiere was moved up from spring
01:32to February.
01:33Fuller remains an executive producer on the series, which stars Sonequa Martin-Green from AMC's
01:39The Walking Dead, alongside Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh,
01:45James Frayn, and Maureen Wilson.
