01:28They really need him back if they're going to make a run at this championship.
01:33He makes so many guys go as we take a look at the standings in East Group A.
01:37This is a big night in NBA Cup action.

01:44They can be eliminated with a loss and a Toronto win.
01:46And you see the Cavaliers 1-1 still alive.
01:49And the wild card hunt.
01:52Kenny Atkinson, head coach of the Cavaliers.
01:55Again, coach of the year a season ago has done an outstanding job.
01:59Yeah, sure did.
02:00They won 64 games last year.
02:02But now it's all about trying to contend for a championship.
02:07And playing the long game.
02:09Rick Carlisle got to the NBA Finals with his Indiana squad a season ago.
02:13Second-most wins among acting coaches.
02:16Of course, won a title during his time in Dallas and nearly won one a season ago.
02:21I mean, very, very close last year.
02:24And then Tyrese Halliburton went down.
02:27And here the Pacers are trying to dig out of a big hole.

02:40We mentioned Indiana coming off of a win on Wednesday over Charlotte.
02:44Their second win of the season.
02:47Meanwhile, Cleveland coming off of a loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
02:53And that loss was without Garland and without Tyson.
02:58Two guys who are in the starting lineup tonight.
03:02But of course now, Jared Allen out tonight.
03:06He's got a sprained finger not going to play in this ballgame.
03:09Curtis Blair, Sean Corbett, Michael Smith are officials.
03:12And we are underway.
03:17Cavaliers get the first look.
03:19Again, Garland, the toe injury has been slowing him this season.

06:56and then Andrew Nimhart having to play as a full-time point guard this year knocks
07:01that down here Nimhart scored 21 or more five of the last seven games for this
07:09team and they're gonna call the foul on the floor and Nimhart is gonna make his
07:15argument as he banked in the shot and so the team fouls adding up for the
07:21Cavaliers that's three team fouls already and we're not even three minutes into
07:26this ballgame and Cassidy how has Nimhart enjoyed this new role really different
07:33for him his usage has almost doubled the shift yeah I mean he said he grew up
07:39playing point guard so he has some familiarity but he said the biggest
07:43shift is going from having two playmakers on the floor to just one and saying
07:48those old dual playmaker lineups took pressure off and now with TJ leaving the
07:52second unit the dynamics change a little bit and he said he's had to take charge
07:55of the offense get guys organized deal with a lot more mental strain as he put it
07:59to me making reads on the go and switching actions on top of that he's still
08:03guarding the opponent's best perimeter player most nights and he also laughed at how
08:07Rick Carlisle said that they don't want to play him into oblivion given how many
08:11injuries they have but he said it's mostly a two-way thing and teammates are
08:15learning how to play at Andrew's pace guys
08:18thank you Cassidy Rick Carlisle quick whistle one in the timeout off the Mobley
08:24dunk and Mitchell on the right side of your screen turn that right ankle back in a
08:33moment Mitchell okay after turning his ankle just before that timeout he was
08:43first team all-nba a season ago coach really taking a backseat somewhat allowing
08:48the guys around him to shine he's had to be more assertive this season with the
08:51injury he's had to with the injuries and he's shown that he's certainly capable of
08:56stepping up and carrying the load having the best and most efficient offensive year of
09:02his career Nembhard second triple in the opening quarter yeah and Nembhard had only come in
09:09shooting 32 percent from three all the field goals for the Cavaliers have come in the paint
09:17all mounted up at eight Rick Carlisle took time out because of how easy the buckets were for the Cavs

10:39to get to that right shoulder in the left hand but the Pacers now look they came in

10:51night with their best three-point shooting game of the year making 16 of them welcome back Darius Garland
10:57drills the triple first three of the night for the Cavaliers they attempt the most in the NBA
11:05attempt the most and it made the third most it's a huge part of their offense

11:18wow he's really getting it going offensively and look he's been better on the road this year Nembhard

14:38have been dealing with a foot injury this season
14:40again it's been a number of guys who have had some ailments this season for Indiana
14:45yeah we wouldn't have time in this entire broadcast to go through all of Indiana's injuries
14:52and the game only takes two and a half hours
14:55you see the numbers for Darius Garland
14:59he's missed the last five games averaging 13 points five assists
15:04in the games that he has played
15:07as we send it over to our Cassidy helper
15:12yeah I got a chance to catch up with Darius pregame
15:14and he told me he feels good
15:15but he's going to try to take it slow throughout this game
15:17try to feel his way out
15:18but find time to be aggressive in getting his teammates involved
15:21you know he missed the first seven games after offseason surgery on that left big toe
15:25in the last four after re-aggravating it in November
15:28Kenny Atkinson said he's not on a strict minutes restriction
15:32it's going to be more of like a conversation
15:34but they're going to monitor him
15:35especially against the Spacers team that still likes to push the pace guys
15:38thank you Cass coach how do you think that conversation is going to go
15:40well I think what's going to happen is Darius Garland is going to want to play more minutes
15:44than the medical people wanting to play

16:52and the efficiency hasn't quite

53:27Swin, what are you seeing there from Evan Mobley's shot diet?
53:30Well, I think the biggest thing is you have to look at the points in the pain.
53:34Last year, obviously, you look at him and you would say, okay, it's career high, 11.6,
53:39and this year it's 9.6.
53:40But the reality is you can have a lot of empty calories.
53:44We talk about it as athletes.
53:45These are effective calories for Evan Mobley and for that Cavaliers team.
53:50They need him to have a presence, a dominating inside.
53:54And then that is when you can go outside, you move outside, you get those shots.
53:58But he has to just really be effective and dominant on the inside,
54:03and that's what we saw here today for him.
54:05And Donovan's mentality in the first half switched a little bit.
54:09What did you see, Candice?
54:09Yes, in the first quarter, you could see it was a point of emphasis
54:12to go and run and play through Evan Mobley.
54:15And he was extremely efficient in that second quarter,
54:18being aggressive, calling his own number,
54:20getting Evan Mobley involved first, 12 points,
54:23and then Donovan Mitchell doing spider things in that second quarter,
54:27being efficient, not overly taking shots, two of three,
54:31finished with seven points in that second quarter.
54:33But you're looking at the big three right now.
54:35You're looking at Garland.
54:36You're looking at Mobley.
54:37You're looking at, you know, now, you know, Donovan Mitchell being able to unlock his teammates.
54:43My thing is, is they're all eating at separate times.

54:47So not to nitpick, but do you think that that could be a problem?
54:50Because it seemed like Garland called his number at the end of the second quarter.
54:54Donovan was the beginning of the second quarter, and Mobley was the first quarter.
54:58Can they all eat together is the question.

55:02Because with the best offenses, when five guys are live, a lot of actions and a lot of different things you have to worry about.
55:08So when you look at that team, Garland's got 18, Mitchell 12, and Mobley hasn't scored since the first quarter.

55:15So we'll talk about that.
55:16But when you talk about five guys being live on the Pacers side of things, Derek, you feel like they're playing their game.
55:21It's keeping them in this one.
