MARBLE RUN THAT LIGHTS UP THE HOUSE WITH PIX AND VID By Shuk Yee Tsang Check out this invention of a marble run that lights up the whole house! Steven Price from Michigan, USA, the creator behind Sprice Machines has unveiled his most high-tech invention yet: a smart marble run that lights up the house, activates gadgets, and even “teleports” marbles from one place to another. Sprice Machines designs and builds custom chain-reaction and domino projects for adverts, TV, film, online content, and live events. This new interactive system shows how far the classic marble run can be pushed with smart technology and creativity. Steven explains that when a marble passes a sensor, it can activate a smart trick such as a lift —meaning motors only run when needed. The track is made from cut-to-size paper straws and connectors compatible with popular building toys, allowing full customisation in structure and colour. The system can also be programmed so lights switch on as the marble passes, creating a glowing trail through the house. One of Steven’s favourite features is the “marble teleporter,” which pairs a detector with a marble dropper to create the illusion of instant transportation. Tracks can be mounted on walls using tape or suction cups and even built outdoors using wedge mounts. Smart plugs can also be triggered by the sensors, allowing a marble to activate devices such as fans to keep the chain reaction going. The marble run supports advanced programming through web hooks, letting users track marble speed, detect colour, trigger delays, or send marbles down different paths. This opens the door to complex creations like lap-timing systems, interactive games, and home-automation tricks. One viewer said: “This is by far the most high-tech marble set I’ve seen in the 18 years I’ve built dominoes and marble runs. Another viewer: “I’d make the most high-tech breakfast machine cooking eggs, brewing coffee, even delivering the food! A third viewer said: “I love the idea of turning on my TV or downstairs lights when I get up in the morning two stories of marble track fun!" END
