Nationwide rallies urge political action on gender based violence

Speaking in Bendigo Victoria, the Centre Against Sexual Assault CEO Kate Wright says politicians are using cautious language about violence against women rather than demanding it end.

00:07 are saying at the moment and they are talking about this terrible problem of violence against

00:13 women. I don't think I've heard anyone from Anthony Albanese through to Mark Dreyfus saying

00:20 we need to end men's violence against women. The outrage that they're expressing is kind

00:28 of, you know, a little bit censored, a little bit moderated and what we don't want is more

00:35 talk because we know what we need to do. We need to see systemic change. Our service is

00:43 in demand. We worked with over 1,300 people last year providing over 16,000 hours of counselling

00:51 and support. We have a wait list for our service. Our funding model has not changed since the

00:58 1980s. It is a shame, thank you. It's a shame and we need government to respond and listen

01:05 to women's services saying what we know people who've experienced violence need.
