00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro offered a balance of the base assemblies ahead of the constituent Congress of the working class.
00:18The government of Peru extended the state of emergency in Lima and the port province of Callao for 30 days under the pretext of a supposed fight against organized crime and common criminality.
00:34And the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the death of two young people during an Israeli military raid with snipers deployed in the town of Kafr al-Khab in the West Bank.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen de los Santos. I'm from the Telestor Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:04We'll begin with the information. In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro offered a balance of the base assemblies ahead of the constituent Congress of the working class where he highlighted the work leading role in the construction of the nation.
01:25The head of state emphasized that more than 10,000 base assemblies of the labor movement had been held and more than 30,000 delegates had been elected.
01:35On the other hand, President Maduro highlighted that the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the ECLAC, projects an economic growth of 6% of Venezuela's GDP,
01:47reaffirming the sovereignty and strength of the country's real economy, despite the blocate and aggressions by the U.S. government.
02:02It creates solutions, it creates proposals, and it is a vital force in the new economy of the 13 engines that the country is driving forward.
02:12This year, Oxford Economics and CELIC are projecting economic growth of 6% of the country's real gross domestic product.
02:26Economists call it gross domestic product.
02:29Not because it is gross, the product, but because it is internal to the global economy.
02:39When one speaks of the concept of gross domestic product, one is speaking of the entire economy.
02:50Last year it grew by 9%.
02:53And in this context, the Venezuelan president announced that the Bolivarian nation has increased its gas production, stating that the first lot is ready to be exported to Colombia.
03:11To increase gas production.
03:16We are making so much progress in the production of gas that the first export to Colombia is ready, it's at the border waiting for some technical issues to be solved, so that Venezuela can begin selling gas to Colombia.
03:29Keep that secret for me too.
03:30The gas is ready at the border to be sent to Colombia, some technical and economic elements are still needed, and then the gas will be ready to go, that will be our first shipment of gas, and then we won't stop because Colombia and Venezuela must be united, increasingly united in an increasingly integrated and prosperous economy.
03:53With a growing trade, as we already have with our growing binational investments, Venezuela and Colombia must be united in Bolivar's idea of emancipation, freedom, peace, and mutual respect between governments and peoples.
04:10We go now to the United States, where a federal court ruled against President Donald Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard in Washington, D.C. under the pretext of fighting crime.
04:24District Judge Jacob ruled that the intervention ordered by the White House is unconstitutional and exceeds the president's powers.
04:33According to the ruling, the president cannot mobilize these forces unless there is a specific legal basis in the current regulations to support it.
04:42Last August, Trump ordered the deployment of over 300 National Guard soldiers, which led to tension between the federal government and the local administration.
04:52We go to other topics, Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz announced on Thursday the closure of the Ministry of Justice, describing it as a Ministry of Persecution, Injustice, and Selling Sentences.
05:11This was the statement of the now-elected president at a press conference.
05:17The president dismissed Minister Freddy Vidovich just 11 days after he took office, arguing that he had a final judgment against him.
05:27He appointed Deputy Minister Jorge Garcia as his replacement, the nomination questioned by Vice President Edmund Lara,
05:34who pointed out that Garcia has a long list of lawsuits against him that make him unfit for the position.
05:42The closure of the Ministry of Justice is unprecedented in Bolivian institutional history
05:47and raises questions about compliance with the principle of separation of powers and the continuity of judicial guarantees.

07:07The decree stated that during the extension of the state of emergency,
07:12complementary measures will be maintained, including satellite control of the territory
07:17and restrictions in prisons, among other specific measures.
07:21We stay in Peru because miners took to the streets of the capital to request an extension
07:33of the time to formalize their work before being declared illegal.
07:37The Peruvian Congress debates the crucial proposal to extend until the end of 2027
07:43the temporary permit that would allow the reintegration of 50,000 miners
07:49that have declared illegal since 2016.
07:52Although the Energy and Mines Commission issued a preliminary extension last Tuesday,
07:58it still requires a final approval by the plenary.
08:01On the subject, the government of interim President José Geri
08:05has not issued an official statement on whether it will support or veto the extension.
08:19In other topics, a fire broke out on Thursday in one of the pavilions hosting the 30th conference

08:58quickly brought the fire under control and there were no injuries.
09:03Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started in the Indian pavilion,

09:18and roadlaps for phasing out fossil fuels.
09:22In Indonesia, the residents of the village of Subturag in East Java returned to their homes
09:35after the eruption of the Semeru volcano.
09:37Upon returning, the villagers witnessed the devastation caused by the phenomenon
09:42when they found their homes buried under a layer of volcanic material.
09:48Despite having been relocated, residents continue to risk their lives in the area
09:53due to their businesses, farmland and livestock,
09:57and they described the eruption as chaotic and a dark episode.
10:01Meanwhile, local authorities maintain a Level 4 alert on Mount Samaru,
10:06warning of persistent risks in the so-called red zone.
10:18We move now to other topics.

12:48We continue with more information.
12:51The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the death of two young people
12:55during an Israeli military raid with snipers deployed in the town of Kafr Akav in the West Bank.
13:02According to the organization, Israeli snipers opened direct fire on two young men aged 18 and 16
13:10who tried to confront the occupation.
13:13The occupation army deployed a large number of troops in the streets
13:17and on the roofs of residential buildings to carry out the attack,
13:21which unleashed a state of extreme tension throughout the city.
13:26Witnesses reported the continued deployment of Israeli forces in and around the city,
13:32as well as violent raids and indiscriminate shooting against young people who tried to resist this incursion.
13:38Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Israeli forces extended the yellow line in eastern Gaza City by over 300 meters
13:52in an operation carried out without prior warning.
13:55Israeli tanks entered the eastern neighborhoods of al-Shafaz and al-Nasas,
14:01blocking exit routes and pushing concrete barriers into inhabited areas.
14:08The expansion of the yellow line established in the U.S.-mediated ceasefire agreement
14:14implies a territorial advance that violates the agreed terms.
14:18The Israeli advance came after a deadly attack on Wednesday against neighborhoods of Gaza City,
14:24Han Yunus, which left 34 people killed, including at least 17 children and women.
14:32In this context, Palestinian human rights organizations are denouncing physical and psychological abuse
14:47against minors that are being detained in Israeli prisons.
14:51The Commission on Detainees and Former Detainees, the Palestinian Prisoner Society,
14:56the Human Rights and Prisoner Support Association, reported that more than 1,630 people have been arrested
15:04in the occupied West Bank since October 7, 2023, in the sense they asserted that at least 350 children
15:14remain in Israeli prisons, while more than 90 are in administrative detention without charges.
15:21According to the group, minors face torture, starvation, medical crimes, systematic looting,
15:26and deprivation, being treated as an alleged security threat.
15:38And the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has denounced the violation of the ceasefire
15:44following the massacres in Gaza and Han Yunus.
15:47Hamas condemned the massacre perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in the cities of Gaza and Han Yunus,
15:54which resulted in the assassination of 33 Palestinians, this including 12 children and 8 women.
16:02In this regard, the resistance movement held the Zionist entity responsible
16:06for violating the ceasefire agreement by killing and injuring civilians.
16:11Hamas described the massacre as a dangerous escalation with which the Israeli Prime Minister,
16:17Benjamin Netanyahu, seeks to resume the genocide against the Palestinian people,
16:21in addition to mentioning the ongoing policy of demolition and destruction of homes,
16:26as well as the closure of the Rafah border crossing.

16:42to combat the recruitment of child soldiers.
16:45The African Ministerial Conference on the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of Children in Conflict
16:53ended with a consensus that reaffirms the continent's determination to combat this issue.
16:59The final document expresses serious concern about the increase in violations such as recruitment,
17:06sexual violence and kidnapping.
17:08The declaration underlines the need to create protective environments that address the root causes of recruitment.
17:16To this end, community resilience and early warning mechanisms are considered fundamental
17:21as part of a comprehensive preventive strategy.
17:25We go now to France, where hundreds of people gathered at a protest to denounce the growing number of children
17:38that are living on the streets just as winter is beginning.
17:42The protesters cited recent data from local associations which document the presence of around 270 homeless children
17:51in the Leon area alone, humanitarian support organizations have had to resort to setting up about 20 schools
17:59to house a third of these minors, a measure they described as insufficient to address the magnitude of this crisis.
18:06Previously, the Minister of Education, Eduard Sheffery, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation,
18:14emphasizing that the authorities are doing everything possible to address the problem.
18:19Australia's e-safety commissioner announced on Friday that the U.S. company Twitch will have to implement
18:34age restrictions for users in the country starting on December 10th.
18:38In this way, the live streaming digital platform joins others such as Meta and TikTok
18:44as it is forced to remove all Australian users under the age of 16 following the entry into force of new laws on social networks.
18:53According to the e-safety commission, Twitch started out as a platform for video game lovers
18:59but it expanded its live streams to include various genres and now the criteria for being restricted.
