00:00Lil Uzi Vert has been hit with a new lawsuit, this time accused of stealing the hit song Just Wanna Rock.
00:07A federal complaint filed in Rochester, New York, claims that the rapper copied the 2022 track from artist Reef Rayal,
00:15who alleges that Uzi's song heavily mimics his own work, Pain and Pleasure.
00:21According to the lawsuit, Uzi's track borrows the hook, melody, and theme from Rayal's song,
00:28including the chant, When I Rock, Ah Ah.
00:32A forensic musicologist reportedly found numerous similarities between the two, such as drum patterns, tempo, and lyrics.
00:42Rayal says he released Pain and Pleasure on August 15, 2022, two months before Uzi dropped Just Wanna Rock on October 17.
00:51He claims that after Uzi's song gained traction through TikTok, Fortnite, and the Blue Beetle trailer,
00:59his own uploads on Facebook and Instagram were mysteriously muted or taken down.
01:05The lawsuit further alleges that after Rayal sent a cease and desist letter to Uzi's label in June,
01:12Atlantic Records retaliated by having Lizzo post a parody of his song online.
01:17Rayal also argues that Uzi and Atlantic had access to his work through his past communications with Lanre Gaba,
01:25the label's president of hip-hop, R&B, and global music.
01:29He claims he had been sharing music with Gaba since 2012,
01:35potentially allowing his unreleased material to circulate within the label and reach Uzi's team.
01:40The suit seeks more than $110 million in damages and names Uzi, Atlantic Records,
01:50Rock Nation, Generation Now, and Warner Music Group.
01:55Rayal is also demanding a retroactive publishing credit, partial ownership of Just Wanna Rock,
02:01and a halt to its continued use.
02:03This lawsuit comes shortly after another legal issue involving Uzi was dropped.
02:10A former personal assistant, identified as Jane Doe,
02:14had accused the rapper of harassment and workplace misconduct,
02:18claiming she endured emotional distress and mental anguish while working for Uzi during a tour.
02:26She alleged unwanted sexual advances and hostile behavior,
02:30but her attorney dismissed the case without prejudice on November 6th.
