South Africa launches G20 report on sustainable industrial policy
Transcript
00:00The G20 Sustainable Industrial Policy Report outlines the framework for aligning green industrial strategies with climate, development and equity goals.
00:16The report makes it clear the world needs sustainable industrial policy now more than ever.
00:22This is because our current systems of production and consumption which are rooted in fossil fuels and resource depletion and ecological degradation are no longer compatible with a healthy planet or a just economy.
00:34But green industrialization comes at a higher cost. Geopolitics have created an uncertain world and sweeping U.S. tariffs have added another layer of complexity to global trade.
00:46For developing economies in particular, securing investment and financing to industrialize sustainably has become tough.
00:54You would have seen that some major countries have now pulled out of the Paris Agreement, which has been the cornerstone of the just energy transition.
01:03It means there's less and less climate financing that would help countries to adapt to build industrial capabilities that are also climate conscious.
01:12Developing countries really need is they need access to technology to upgrade.
01:17They need developmental, concessional, affordable finance so that they can invest in their economies, in infrastructure.
01:26And they need a trading regime that is predictable and that allows them the predictability to grow their economies.
01:35Under the G20 framework, a task force was created to look at issues of inclusive economic growth, employment and poverty reduction.
01:44Africa is still lagging behind in terms of technology and skills development, yet these are major proponents to industrial growth.
01:53What we need to do in Africa, and we've been talking about it for so long, is increasing the upskilling of people in Africa.
02:03And it's really about skills.
02:05I think you will be replaced potentially by AI and by technology if the skills are not there.
02:12But if you look at supply chain management, logistics, transportation, energy provision, all matters of significant importance to Africa.
02:22We simply don't yet have enough skilled labor.
02:25The report also highlighted the challenges facing low income nations in particular as more developed countries return to industrialization.
02:48Their policies include protectionist measures shutting out smaller players.
02:53Experts believe this will push increased trade among the Global South and for African countries.
02:59It's likely to spur the immediate necessity of taking action to fully leverage the African continental free trade area.
03:07比較 of federal resources towards the African countries.
03:13Our focus on the Hayward and the Americans in Africa will be in return to military goods and humanos.
03:17And we have a private sector of the American nation.
03:18So the law enforcement means that that the American nation should be going to work in the United States.
03:19In our region is the most part of the United States and the United States which is a global race.
03:22A land that includes the international trade ambience and the American nations.
03:25And if you look for national and the general trade families are not really well connected to the United States.
03:26And everything has to be a good at the American nation, the United States.
03:28We've got around to the Federal Act.
03:29We can be able to do that.
03:30It's probably a solid based domain of the United States yesterday.
03:31The American Indian and the United States.
03:32We've got a lot of the curriculum with the United States in the United States.
