China targets major sci-tech breakthroughs over next five years
Transcript
00:00China's State Council has called for hastened development and a wider rollout of the country's
00:12testing and application environments for new technologies.
00:15A senior expert from the China Center for International Economic Exchanges highlighted the success
00:20of the 14th five-year plan as a driver for the next five years.
00:25In AI, we have developed deep learning algorithms and software models.
00:32We have Huawei and domestic chip makers supplying servers, and we have implemented data sharing
00:37measures under the 20 data measures.
00:40China now possesses the computing power, algorithms, and data platforms.
00:44In the next five years, China has the potential to make significant strides in AR plus technologies.
00:51Our strategy focuses on expanding and deepening the application scenarios of AR plus, making
00:56it a driving force.
00:58Amongst those frontier technologies are bio-manufacturing, brain-computer interfaces, embodied intelligence,
01:06and 6G mobile communications.
01:08But it's quantum computing that could become a potential game-changer for China's tech future
01:13and is an area that's expected to receive a lot of attention.
01:16This time, we discussed many areas, for example, quantum computing.
01:26Quantum computing is so important because it is the core of future computing.
01:30If it becomes universal, many existing technologies will be fundamentally transformed.
01:36That's why we are concentrating resources and brainpower on this area.
01:40Breakthroughs are possible and crucial.
01:42No matter what, the next five years will be a period of major scientific and technological
01:47breakthroughs and high-speed development for China.
01:52China's technological achievements during its 14th five-year plan, from 2021 to 2025, helped
01:59improve the country's rating on the Global Innovation Index, which ranks 139 world economies according
02:06to their innovation capabilities.
02:08In 2020, China was ranked 14th globally.
02:11Today, they're ranked number 10.
