Ski resorts in China usher in new season with first snowfall

00:00Ski season has arrived in parts of northern China where fresh snowfall is attracting all
00:11levels of enthusiasts. In the resort town of Chongli in Hebei province where several events
00:17for the 2022 Winter Olympics were held, there are nine large ski resorts with a combined 219 slopes
00:24all of which are expected to be fully open by the end of November. For the early birds though,
00:30the powder has been fantastic. The scenery is spectacular. We can take beautiful pictures.
00:37It's like a fairyland here. The snowfall has been very heavy these past two days,
00:42carpeting the ski slopes with powdery snow. It feels so good to rush down the slope.
00:48Thousands of miles away in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region,
00:53another international ski resort has opened four of its slopes. The resort also stages folk music
00:59and dance performances to celebrate the beginning of the new ski season. Data from a report released
01:05last month by the World Winter Sports Expo in Beijing shows that during the 2024-25 winter season,
01:12China's winter sports industry generated US$22.6 billion in revenue, marking a year-on-year growth
01:19of 25 percent.
