Police have apprehended a male inmate who escaped from the Sri Aman Central Prison in less than 12 hours, thanks to public cooperation and swift action by security forces.

00:00Police have apprehended a male inmate who escaped from the Sri Amman Central Prison
00:06in less than 12 hours, thanks to public cooperation and swift action by security forces.
00:12Sri Amman OCPD Superintendent Dennis Bunyam reported that the incident occurred around
00:187.15 a.m., when the inmate, 39-year-old John Sambang Sangao, was reported to have slipped
00:24away from prison supervision.
00:26He was arrested at 6.20 p.m. in an unfinished house along Jalan Brayun, about two kilometres
00:32from the prison.
00:34The house was believed to have been used by the suspect as a temporary hiding place before
00:39police approached and detained him without any incidents.
00:42The case is being investigated under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code.
00:48Superintendent Dennis said police will apply for a remand order for the suspect to assist
00:54in further investigations, including identifying the cause and method of escape and whether
00:59there were other individuals involved.
