Kerala shocker: One-armed convict escapes high-security jail, nabbed hours later

A prisoner, who has only one arm, reportedly cut through iron bars, scaled a wall and escaped from a high-security prison in Kannur, Kerala.  Hours later, authorities recaptured the convict, who was found hiding in a well.

00:03This was a very shocking case that emerged from Kerala's canoe of a jailbreak.

00:07A convict in a rape and murder case was found missing from his high security cell early this morning.

00:13And soon after it was confirmed that authorities, in fact confirmed that he escaped by cutting through the iron bars,

00:21scaling the prison wall, despite having only one arm.

00:24He planned this reportedly for weeks, managed to get away.

00:27Where was the security, one would ask?

00:30Clearly none of that was there because he managed to leave the prison without any problems.

00:34But soon after that, police launched a massive search operation,

00:38alerting officials across Kerala and neighbouring states.

00:41But hours later, fortunately, the convict that we're talking about identified as Govinda Swami,

00:46was discovered hiding in a well near an abandoned building within the Kannur city limits.

00:51He hadn't managed to get far away.

00:53But this is footage from right after he was nabbed once again by police officials.

00:58This is also CCTV footage that the police released that showed him walking rather casually right after escaping from prison.

01:07Locals assisted the police in catching him and this man is back in custody.

01:12But obviously it raises a lot more questions on the kind of security that was there in this prison.

01:16The officials have confirmed that they've now launched an investigation to find out exactly how this convict managed to get out so easily.

01:29They are the ones that they see.

01:32They are the ones that have changed.
