00:30A sleepy beach town in western El Salvador, El Zonti, a haven for surfers chasing warm water swells.
00:39What do you think of this spot?
00:41It's absolutely incredible.
00:43It's stunning.
00:44This coastal landscape is defined by the rugged cliffs that shape the shoreline,
00:50carved over millions of years by the power of the Pacific Ocean and intense volcanic activity.
00:56How are you?
00:57Yeah, all good.
00:59All good.
01:00It's Molly, you're not well.
01:01Do you know what?
01:01It must have been something she's eaten or something.
01:03No.
01:04Yeah.
01:05Send her our love.
01:06I hope she gets better quickly.
01:07Thank you, guys.
01:08I've said Molly's ill.
01:09Actually, she's revising the route.
01:11That's what she's doing in the room.
01:14Oh.
01:15This is nice, isn't it?
01:16This is nice.
01:17After Guatemala.
01:18Yeah, man.
01:19That was tough.
01:20Some things there's nothing you can do.
01:22Bus breaks down, there's roadblocks.
01:24If you can't do something out there, why worry, because you can't do anything about it.
01:27I love that.
01:27I won't lie to you.
01:29It was interesting to see that we had made up some ground on you, because we were worried
01:33that we were going to start having two different races, the three of us, and then just you on
01:38your own.
01:38While race positions remain unchanged, the 23-hour lead for Anita and Bal has reduced to just
01:45three and a half hours.
01:47It's time that we take those front-runner positions.
01:50Definitely.
01:50I think you guys nip up to second.
01:52We'll take third.
01:54Oh, is it?
01:54Is that how it's going to happen?
01:55Not first, then.
01:56Oh.
01:59They're so far ahead, though, aren't they?
02:01You're too kind.
02:02With two legs completed, Roman and Harley Moon have the healthiest-looking budget,
02:07whilst Molly and Tyler hold the least money.
02:11I think anything that helps the budget will be a priority going into this leg.
02:15Maybe pick up some work along the way, keeping it cheap, and prove to ourselves that we can
02:19be better than third place.
02:22Bal, you're doing the budgeting for this.
02:23Yeah, I'm the banker.
02:24What's the secret?
02:26I'm not telling you.
02:29He's a Yorkshireman and a Punjabi.
02:31He never spends anything.
02:35Now it feels like, all right, it's anyone.
02:37It's all right.
02:38Bring it.
02:53Here we go again.
02:55I've got butterflies at the moment.
02:57Hi, how are you doing?
02:57This is for you guys.
02:58Thank you very much.
03:00Your third checkpoint is Valley of the Angels.
03:04The Valley of the Angels.
03:07Yep.
03:08Very good, Todd.
03:09English.
03:10Hopefully on our side.
03:12Ah, the Angels.
03:13There you go.
03:14OK.
03:15Map.
03:16Let's do it.
03:16Right, Hawkeye.
03:18Let's get in there.
03:20Valley of Angels.
03:23Valley of the Angels.
03:24Oh, I found it.
03:25There you go.
03:26Found it.
03:27We're going to Honduras, baby.
03:31Marking the halfway point for the race, Valley de Angeles, Honduras.
03:37The most mountainous country in Central America.
03:42Seated within this alpine terrain, it's a former 16th century mining town and now a popular
03:48weekend getaway from the capital.
03:49To reach this third checkpoint, teams will continue their journey through El Salvador, known as
03:57the Land of Volcanoes, with over 20 forming the country's spine.
04:02Having suffered a devastating 12-year civil war, followed by a rise in gang violence, a
04:07recent government crackdown means El Salvador has become safer for tourists, though travel
04:12after dark is still widely discouraged and rarely exists.
04:16This looks good to me.
04:20Conchagua Volcano.
04:22I've never been on top of a volcano, for a start.
04:24It's my most favourite thing in the world, to wake up in a foreign country, sunrise over
04:30a unique landscape.
04:32It's when I feel at my most calm.
04:33It's on the road as well.
04:34And it's on the right direction.
04:35Let's go for it, then.
04:36Yeah?
04:37Yeah.
04:38I feel like we've had this amazing trip, but it's been very...
04:42And also, my life is intense.
04:45Honestly, Dad, I really want to just have a bit of peace and quiet.
04:50I've worked since I was 14.
04:52Like, I've just worked all the time.
04:54Even when I was at uni, I had three jobs, and it's taken a lot to kind of get to this
04:58point.
04:59But actually, now I feel, at 47, quite nice to, like, lower the frequency a little bit.
05:04Camping on top of a volcano, that is a bit of me.
05:09All right.
05:09Just get me there.
05:10Let's go.
05:11Taking advantage of their early start, the pair aim to travel 185 kilometres to reach
05:18San Miguel, just shy of Conchagua Volcano.
05:21She said, no, I don't know, maybe half an hour.
05:29Leaving El Zonte, travel timetables are elusive.
05:33If there's a nice, big, juicy-looking vehicle, I might flag it down, Dad.
05:37Teams must journey like locals, hailing oncoming transport, or hitching in daylight in the hope
05:42of a free ride.
05:44Well, there's a bus.
05:45There's a bus behind it.
05:45There's two buses, one coming behind it.
05:51Dad, grab that bus.
05:52Grab that bus.
05:53Ask him as well.
05:54There's a bus there.
05:55Grab it.
05:56Grab it.
05:57Leave your bag.
06:00Grab that, Mike.
06:00Just grab the bus.
06:02OK, I'll ask him.
06:03This go to San Salvador?
06:05Si?
06:05OK, uno momento, please, por favor.
06:07Uno momento.
06:09There's this bus.
06:11No?
06:12OK.
06:12No?
06:16No.
06:18Where was that one going?
06:19He's not waiting.
06:21Please, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
06:23That was the bus.
06:26How did he just drive off?
06:28I just got off, and then he drove off.
06:30Because we were dilly-dallying.
06:32I was on it.
06:33I was on the bus.
06:35Oy, oy, oy.
06:37OK, I'm going to either flag down a bus or flag down somebody.
06:41Let's go.
06:43All right, Honduras.
06:45Here we come.
06:46Which way?
06:47Palo de Angelis.
06:48That way.
06:48Next to leave, three hours and 35 minutes after the leaders, siblings Roman and Harley Moon.
06:56We've got to make up that time, because Anita and Bao, they're already on their way.
06:59I really don't want them to be fair.
07:01They're going to get the hat-trick ball.
07:05Please, please, please.
07:07Here we go.
07:09Hola.
07:09Are you going to San Salvador?
07:10Hello.
07:11Yeah?
07:12Muchas gracias.
07:13You're a lifesaver.
07:14You really are.
07:15Thank you.
07:16Let's go, daddy-o.
07:18Could be strategically quite good to be close to a border, surely.
07:21Yeah.
07:21So we get to Honduras as quickly as possible.
07:23And you've got the option of La Union, which can take you up to the capital that's close
07:28to a valley of the Angelis.
07:29Yeah.
07:29We could be the first ones in Honduras.
07:31To leave El Salvador, teams could depart by sea from the port of La Union.
07:36Although they can cover good distance by boat, they must surrender themselves to the timing
07:40of the tide.
07:43Alternatively, they could enter Honduras via the main land border crossing, El Amatillo,
07:48a spot that is well-connected but often congested.
07:52Since we've been in El Zonte, it's obvious that there's a lot more tourists, a lot more people
07:56that speak English.
07:57Sticking by the coast, the route looks...
07:59It looks so easy.
08:00Clear, yeah.
08:01Let's hug the coast then.
08:03Going on the main touristy track, we've got more chance of running into people that can
08:07help us.
08:08I'm happy if you're happy.
08:09Are you happy?
08:09I don't have a clue.
08:11I don't know.
08:12But something's just telling me if we could be the first ones into Honduras, it could be
08:15good.
08:16Yeah, okay.
08:17How could you do it, baby?
08:20Just see how far down we can get before it gets dark.
08:22Oh, a bus stop?
08:23A bus stop.
08:24Hopefully all buses lead to Honduras.
08:27Yeah.
08:27I think this is up.
08:29Okay, let's go.
08:30The siblings plan to bus hop through the region of Surf City to reach La Union and enter
08:36Honduras by sea.
08:39Where are we going?
08:40I don't actually know.
08:42What do you mean?
08:43We jumped on the first bus we could find.
08:47We don't know if it's going in the right direction.
08:49It's going inland and that doesn't feel right.
08:53What's your point on the signature?
08:55Oh, you can speak English?
08:56Sure.
08:56We're trying to hug the coastline as much as possible to get to La Union.
09:01Is it possible?
09:02You're sure, but you are here.
09:04Right.
09:04So we're not going along the coast?
09:06Okay.
09:06Holly, I think get off.
09:11Okay.
09:12To avoid heading inland, the siblings hop off, a mere 11 kilometres away from the checkpoint.
09:17All right.
09:18We have not moved very far.
09:20I hope it's not a bad omen.
09:21Let's do this.
09:25My nana always used to say, a bit of sea that would make you feel better.
09:28Ah, love you, half.
09:30Good luck.
09:32Setting off almost four hours after the race leaders, the two remaining teams.
09:37Good luck.
09:38Good luck.
09:39Whatever, whatever.
09:41Molly and Tyler with a four-minute lead on their fellow stragglers.
09:45Oh, mate.
09:46You got this, baby.
09:47I feel the worst I've felt in a long time.
09:51It has been a rough 24 hours.
09:55I don't know if we ate something dodgy, but we got a bit of food poisoning.
09:58I'm not feeling sick anymore, but Ty's been ill today, so we've just got to take it easy.
10:05And I just want us to get moving.
10:08Right.
10:09What?
10:09Valley de Anguilles.
10:12Where do you think it is?
10:14Sorry, you need to carry on for a second.
10:15I'll throw it up.
10:18Okay.
10:19Yeah.
10:19Haven't eaten, can't eat, can't keep it down.
10:26Molly's absolutely going to need to carry the both of us, because I don't know what I've
10:31got to offer aside from carrying my own backpack at this moment.
10:34I feel sick now.
10:35Let's go to San Salvador.
10:37We know it's a good transport hub, and then we'll work out a plan.
10:42All right.
10:43Yeah?
10:43Yeah.
10:44It will be all right.
10:44Okay.
10:46Found it.
10:47You found it?
10:49Right there.
10:50It's in Honduras.
10:51Well done, Dylan.
10:52Have it.
10:52The coastal routes, I am a bit worried about being on boats, get seasick.
10:59Let's go inland again, then.
11:00Yeah.
11:01It's more north, that checkpoint.
11:02Yeah.
11:03Whereas if we're going south, it might be a bit tougher to get up.
11:05It does look more direct.
11:06We want to get ahead of some people, so this looks like the quickest route to me.
11:11Yeah.
11:12Also, maybe we can try and find something that we could just share together and experience
11:16together, and that would be special.
11:19Yeah, it would be nice to go to an actual beautiful town.
11:22So, Tsuchitoto is here.
11:24It's on the water, isn't it?
11:25Near the water.
11:26That sounds fun.
11:28Okay.
11:29Okay.
11:30Let's try and find a bus.
11:32He's off again, my son.
11:34Quick march.
11:36Dylan and Jackie plan to use the capital for quick onward connections north to Tsuchitoto
11:43in the mountainous heartland.
11:46Oh, there's a bus.
11:47It might not be the right one.
11:48It might not be the right one.
11:50It says San Salvador there at the bottom right.
11:54Feeling good that one on the road.
11:56Yeah, definitely.
11:57We need to catch up with everyone.
11:59Oh, my days.
12:00This place is right off.
12:03This the bus?
12:04I think this is the bus that this...
12:07Or not.
12:16You're going to have to carry us.
12:17I'm sorry.
12:18Yeah.
12:20You're my hero.
12:21I know.
12:22Just 15 minutes further east, as dusk descends...
12:27Do we want to find a bus that got us a little bit further down the coast?
12:31Or do we find somewhere to stay here, a cheap hostel?
12:33Let's go, let's go.
12:34Let's go.
12:34Let's go.
12:34Let's go.
12:34Let's go.
12:34Let's go.
12:34Let's go.
12:34Hey, do you speak English?
12:35Sorry.
12:36What do you mean?
12:37We'd like to get to Le Union.
12:39Yeah.
12:39Is it possible to get a bus from here to Le Union?
12:41Yeah, you can take a bus or a taxi from here to Le Union and you do it on the way for the beach.
12:48Do you think we're better off finding a cheap hostel here?
12:52That's a night.
12:53Yeah, you can do it today.
12:55It was in an hour.
12:56It's going to be there.
12:57Yeah.
12:57Thank you so much, my man.
12:59Nice to meet you.
13:00Really appreciate it.
13:00Thank you.
13:01Thank you.
13:01Thank you.
13:01Nice to meet you.
13:05Stop staring at him.
13:07Where's he staring?
13:08I know.
13:10I'm all in love.
13:11We'll stay anywhere now.
13:14Great.
13:16This is a classic us move.
13:18We've only gone ten minutes down the road.
13:19Go on ten minutes down the road and stop.
13:27Wow.
13:28Look at the colour of the sky.
13:30Oh, this is nice.
13:32That's the checkpoint over there.
13:34We could have walked.
13:34Could have just walked.
13:36Really beautiful here.
13:38What are you smiling at him for?
13:40I don't know.
13:40Just distracted.
13:42You were like, hey.
13:44Everyone here is...
13:46Outrageously good looking.
13:47Yeah.
13:48Can you do the rest of the race on your own?
13:54I don't know how you do it sometimes.
13:56You know, we're in this race.
13:57You're trying to find somewhere to stay.
13:58And you're still able to just go, oh, look.
14:00We're on holiday.
14:01Oh, there's some fit guys.
14:03Or something like that.
14:03I just feel like life is so short.
14:06And I want to know that I've really enjoyed it.
14:10And I do try to actively be happy.
14:15I do get jealous of that.
14:16You know, you feel it's a choice that you feel happy.
14:19Because I always think, like, you were born with, like,
14:22a happy level that's here.
14:24And my ceiling was, like, here.
14:28You know, even with my tablets, I can't fully get there.
14:32Do you know what I mean?
14:33Yeah.
14:34I've been on antidepressants for over 15 years.
14:40For me, they help.
14:42Definitely.
14:43You know, for some people, it's therapy.
14:45For some people, it's just going down to the pub and having a pint with their mates.
14:48Like, that can be their thing.
14:50It's not one shoe fits all.
14:51I've been through some horrible times.
14:55But I've made the decision now to come off them because I feel like I'm in a good place in life.
15:02Now that I'm at a point where I've stopped taking the antidepressants,
15:06it's trying to discover what my actual emotions are.
15:10And don't get me wrong, they really helped me through a really bad part of my life.
15:15But I've not known since I was 15 who I am.
15:20Do you know what I mean?
15:20Like, what makes me sad or what makes me emotional or what makes me happy.
15:26Yeah.
15:27But I am finding it hard.
15:31I'm discovering, like, panic attacks again or, like, anxiety attacks.
15:35Like, doing something like this, for me, is such a test of how I'm going to react emotionally.
15:42Prior to this trip, I guess I just thought you were just a bit of a worrier for the sake of worrying.
15:54I know, I know.
15:55And I know it's only been a couple of weeks, but I do feel like I'm really getting to understand you better.
16:05I do massively appreciate that you've been much more understanding of my thought process.
16:09Yeah.
16:10Because I know it can be confusing.
16:12We just haven't spent this much time together.
16:15Yeah.
16:22Thank you.
16:24Have a safe trip.
16:24Thank you so much.
16:26Having hitched a free ride, Molly and Tyler are halfway to the capital.
16:32And planning to restrict expenditure with some creative tactics.
16:37Is that either available or not, right?
16:39Yeah.
16:41So green's available.
16:43But how do we pay?
16:45Please connect.
16:46Three hours.
16:4711.99.
16:47Our additional $4.99.
16:50And there's a condom.
16:55That's good.
16:56I now suddenly don't want to stay on this bed.
16:58Wait, there's a music button.
17:02Are you killing me?
17:08Babe, don't even get a cut.
17:09I will throw up on you.
17:10I promise you now.
17:12I feel like death.
17:14Just grateful that we've got a bed to rest in tonight.
17:17Molly's doing a phenomenal job in looking after me.
17:18But I can't make decisions.
17:21So it's not an ideal situation, considering how close the teams are on the leaderboard right now.
17:27At least, like, you've got a little bit of vomit around your mouth or you need to blow your nose.
17:31It's just a tissue dispenser round of us.
17:49Hey, happy dog.
17:51Honduras today.
17:52Hoi-nduras.
17:54Honduras.
17:55And a nice coffee.
17:57Having travelled only 11 kilometres this leg,
18:00Roman and Harley Moon are making an early start,
18:04aiming for the port of La Union to get to Honduras as quickly as possible.
18:09Pass.
18:11Oh.
18:12Don't lift that one.
18:14And now we wait.
18:17Dad, I'm like a kid on Christmas Day.
18:20Whilst Anita and Bal are more than halfway across El Salvador
18:23on their way to Conchagua Volcano.
18:25I'm really looking forward to it because I've never been on a volcano.
18:29Have you ever slept in a tent?
18:30Never.
18:30I was slept in somebody's garage.
18:32I was a little bit tipsy then.
18:34I didn't know where I was.
18:38It's starting to come out of the city a bit more now.
18:42130 kilometres behind them and leaving San Salvador,
18:46Dylan and Jackie are heading for the mountains of Cordillera del Balsamo,
18:50seeking a taste of tradition.
18:52I want to try one of those rucousas.
18:54Oh, yeah, yeah.
18:55Yeah.
18:56It's meant to be a local El Salvadoran dish.
19:00Sounds good.
19:00OK.
19:01OK.
19:02San Salvador.
19:03All right.
19:04Finally reaching the capital, Molly and Tyler need to plan their next move.
19:09Let's get the map out because last night we were in no state to make a plan.
19:14No, still don't feel 100% and I can't lie about going long distance.
19:19It's a bit treacherous when I'm feeling like this.
19:21I understand.
19:22So I feel like if we rest up today, take in a bit of San Salvador, then when we feel 100%,
19:30we can absolutely just go for the checkpoint.
19:32Just base it.
19:33Yeah.
19:34It's fine.
19:35Today is my day to make some decisions for the both of us and, yeah, just lead us in the
19:40right direction.
19:41Feels like a little pressure today.
19:44There is a lake called Lake Ilopango just outside of San Salvador.
19:51I feel like I'm quite a confident person on, like, the surface, but deep down I have a
19:57lot of doubt and that comes in when I'm making decisions because you don't want to make the
20:03wrong one.
20:04That sounds the perfect plan of what I need right now.
20:07Let's go.
20:08Let's go.
20:09I definitely think it's because I started in this industry so young that all my decisions
20:15were always discussed with management, my parents.
20:19I wasn't allowed to be independent.
20:21I was always very, like, sheltered before.
20:23This one.
20:24It's too packed.
20:25There's no seats.
20:26I'm going to make an executive decision that the buses that come through here are all going
20:31to be too full.
20:32Maybe we should just get cabs.
20:33Okay.
20:34Yeah?
20:35Let's just do it.
20:36I'll back it.
20:37All right.
20:38We just need to negotiate the price.
20:39I just want to be able to, like, trust my gut and my instincts a little bit more.
20:44Excuse me, senor.
20:45Quanto cuesta para lago Iapango?
20:49Twenty.
20:50Dollars.
20:51Two?
20:52What's that?
20:53Twenty dollars.
20:54Can you do diez?
20:55No.
20:56Diez?
20:57Ten dollars.
20:58Quince?
20:59Diez.
21:00Quince?
21:01Fifteen?
21:02Why'd you back out of my ten?
21:03I don't know.
21:04I've only got diez.
21:06I don't...
21:07I can't do this, though.
21:08I don't like it.
21:09We'll just swallow it and we'll take it.
21:10Fifteen.
21:11Quince?
21:12Quince?
21:13Yeah?
21:14Gracias.
21:15Right, you ready?
21:16I'm not mad at you, babe.
21:19I'm sorry for the biting.
21:20I appreciate you looking after me.
21:21Okay.
21:22I'm sorry for the biting.
21:23I appreciate you looking after me.
21:24Okay.
21:25I'm sorry for the biting.
21:26I appreciate you looking after me.
21:27Okay.
21:28I'm sorry for the biting.
21:29I'm sorry for biting.
21:30I appreciate you looking after me.
21:32Okay.
21:39195 kilometres to the east.
21:42Wow!
21:43You are not kidding me.
21:47The volcano of Conchagua.
21:50A name taken from the indigenous Lenka people, meaning flying jaguar.
21:57Formed by two stratovolcanoes, the summit soars to over 1,200 metres, offering unparalleled
22:05views of the Bay of Fonseca on the Pacific Ocean.
22:09This doesn't look real.
22:10It doesn't.
22:11Well, it looks like a painting.
22:12It's one of those moments where you're like, am I actually here?
22:16Surrounded by a coastal forest, home to numerous exotic avian species, including
22:22El Salvador's national bird, the mot mot.
22:26What a place to say you did your first camping experience.
22:30There's a door here, but how do you get into the door?
22:33Oh, there's a zip here.
22:34I want some planks here at the moment.
22:36I think I need a mattress.
22:37But I'll tell you something.
22:38Our view from here is amazing.
22:45And I hope it doesn't tickle.
22:47Oh, my God.
22:48You look like a Boy Scout, Dad.
22:50Oh, yes, with a boggle.
22:52Very old Boy Scout.
22:54Ding-gang-goly-goly, ding-gang-goo, ding-gang-goo.
23:00This is magnificent, isn't it?
23:02I feel quite at peace up here.
23:04But when it's time to move, I cannot explain how my brain works.
23:09It just goes into, okay, let's figure out how we get from A to B and just make it happen.
23:15I do the same sort of thing.
23:16I'm always thinking two steps ahead.
23:18Two steps ahead.
23:19Yeah, same.
23:20The way you brought us up, there was no time for rest.
23:23It was like, get up, do.
23:25Get up and do something.
23:27Don't waste the day.
23:29It's a mindset.
23:30It's a mindset.
23:31And part of me is like that because I've seen you and Mum work really hard.
23:35We're an immigrant community.
23:36We came here with nothing.
23:38Yeah.
23:39Weren't you one of the first Indian families in Bradford?
23:43In your back-to-back house, in your cobbled street?
23:45Cobbled street, yeah.
23:46And tin bath.
23:47Yeah.
23:48I mean, my grandad, how much money did he have when he came from India?
23:50Nothing.
23:51That was like 1950s.
23:52Yes, and couldn't speak any English.
23:54Yeah.
23:55And also, you worked really hard.
23:56Well, we wanted you to be better than us and not struggle as hard as we did and have a better life.
24:02Yeah.
24:03I grew up in a very aspirational household.
24:05One thing I was given by my parents is that I was just made to believe that I could achieve anything.
24:10But also, there is this huge expectation that if you're going to do something, you better do it to the best of your ability.
24:16There was a lot of expectation to not let everyone down.
24:19And I guess everything about me is about showing that, actually, I am fully capable.
24:26But yeah, that gets exhausting.
24:28I feel like I'm in a race with myself.
24:31Yeah.
24:32Just a constant race.
24:33What's the end goal?
24:34Exactly.
24:35And I feel like I've never really known what the end goal is other than just keep going.
24:40And I think there's more to me than just someone who wants to achieve.
24:43Maybe be more compassionate towards myself.
24:46And that's it.
24:47We know how hard you've worked to get to where you are.
24:49Yeah.
24:50And we're proud of that.
24:51Thanks, Dad.
24:52Nice chat.
24:53Yes, it is.
24:54Yeah, well, I know we haven't chat like this for ages.
24:57Ever?
24:58Yeah.
24:59Do you know what's going to do it?
25:00That sunrise tomorrow morning.
25:02Yeah.
25:03Wow.
25:04Oh, my days.
25:05Aw.
25:06Miles is perfect.
25:07Also in pursuit of some respite from the race, Molly and Tyler are just outside the capital,
25:19at Lake Ilopango.
25:20This is unreal.
25:21I've never seen anything like it.
25:22A vast volcanic caldera with a depth of more than 230 metres.
25:34I just can't get over the fact this is in the middle of a volcano.
25:37It was formed over 1,500 years ago by the Tierra Blanca Hoven eruption, which blanketed
25:43the whole of Central America in ash.
25:46Are you feeling better after yesterday?
25:48Yeah, I feel like this is the bitter piece we needed.
25:51With their strength returning, they spot a chance to ease their money worries.
25:57These boats need cleaning, right?
25:59Yeah.
26:00Do we put our flip-flops on?
26:01Yeah, that makes sense.
26:03I reckon we do all high surfaces first, and then we'll do the floor after.
26:08Yeah?
26:09Yeah.
26:10Sounds like we're in our kitchen.
26:11Miles, I can't lie, I think you've absolutely smashed this.
26:15Choosing to come here when we're not really feeling 100% is the best thing that we could
26:20have done.
26:21I know today didn't seem like a big decision, but it's just like, I don't want to ever be
26:27the reason we're not progressing or something.
26:29Yeah.
26:30Yeah.
26:31If you were to make a decision, yeah, and we don't progress in the race, what, like, the
26:34world's not ending.
26:35Yeah, I know.
26:36Even earlier, when we were bartering for that taxi, the knock-on that scares me is like,
26:44we could have had five more dollars for our budget that now we don't have, and then I
26:49think, oh no, does that mean we won't eat as well today, or will we not be able to get
26:54anywhere else today?
26:55You know?
26:56It's just my...
26:57I just spiral.
26:58Yeah, I don't want to let anyone down.
27:00You could never let me down.
27:02I guess making the wrong decision in a place that's so public is really...
27:07It's exaggerated.
27:08Like, it's blown off.
27:09Yeah.
27:10I know that this industry is so, like, cutthroat.
27:15And so, if I make the wrong decision, you can lose it all in a heartbeat.
27:19And I feel like that definitely plays on my mind all the time.
27:23I always feel a little bit like, you know, an imposter.
27:27And, like, I don't know, I just feel like, is it all down to luck and actually...
27:33I don't think so.
27:34I don't think so.
27:35I think, like, you decided to carry on pursuing a career and doing the things that you want
27:40to do.
27:41You decided to go for an audition and start acting.
27:44I think my fear comes from the fact that I've been handed such an amazing card to be
27:50able to, like, live a dream career from so young that you feel like...
27:58Surely this is gonna run out soon, this luck.
28:04Also, though, think about how many good decisions you've made in your lifetime
28:08compared to the bad decision.
28:09True.
28:10You completely...
28:11Like, the balancing scales are outweighed entirely.
28:13You've made some wicked decisions since we've been out here.
28:16I'm proud of you.
28:17Thank you.
28:18What's great about the race is that you can see when a decision pays off and when it doesn't.
28:24And I think that's quite reassuring.
28:26I feel like I'm growing with the race.
28:30Look at that.
28:31That is the cleanest boat in the whole of El Salvador.
28:34Just woke up from being half asleep and thought...
28:35Are we going all the way to La Union for a boat and we don't even know the boat timetables?
28:48Having travelled for over eight hours across the country, Roman and Harley Moon are approaching the transport hub of San Miguel, where the road forks south to the port of La Union, the ferry departure point for Honduras, or north to El Amatillo, the main land border crossing.
29:06Some were then wondering if we'd get out of San Miguel and head to El Amatillo to try and cross the border today.
29:12Is this San Miguel?
29:13Yeah.
29:14I think we should do it.
29:15OK, jump out?
29:16Yeah.
29:17In the midst of anxiety, we have jumped off the bus. Roman was feeling like we should get off, and we can find ten minutes to regroup.
29:29It's all very stressful.
29:32It was a decision of, let's stop and reassess, because there's a fork in the road that goes to this border or to La Union.
29:42In a panic, I just kind of said, right, let's just get to that fort and figure out which one we're going to take.
29:48How long from here to La Union?
29:52Like...
29:53What time?
29:54One hour.
29:55One hour?
29:56And at La Union, how long time for the boat for Honduras?
30:03One hour.
30:04One hour on the boat.
30:07I'm sorry to pull us off.
30:09Yeah.
30:10If I thought we were going to cross the border in the north, I'd say, yeah, but the fact that I don't know if we will is the issue.
30:16What, by sundown?
30:17Yeah, I just don't think we will.
30:19Your gut's telling you La Union. I'll go with you.
30:22Yeah?
30:23Yeah, I'll go with you.
30:24Worst case scenario, if tomorrow there's no boat, we might even be able to jump in another bus that takes us off.
30:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
30:29Let's do it, then.
30:30Right, let's start again.
30:33OK.
30:34So we're back on the same route.
30:38This whole race is such a game of have I made the right choice?
30:41And unfortunately, I'm not a very good choice maker.
30:45The hardest thing is realising that you are going to have to stop and go to bed.
30:49You know, you just want to be there now.
30:51But it's that thing of being OK with the fact that we're going to stay in La Union tonight,
30:56but we're going to do everything we can to get away from there as quickly as possible tomorrow.
31:07Nestled in the northern highlands, overlooking the Lempa River, Suchitoto.
31:13An ancient Aztec word meaning the place of flowers and birds.
31:17It's a sweet town, isn't it?
31:18Really pretty.
31:19Deeply scarred from its days as a battleground in the Civil War, the city used to sit close to the guerrilla groups fighting the government in the surrounding jungle.
31:29Dylan.
31:31Today, it's a more tranquil town, drawing visitors to its colonial architecture and vibrant markets.
31:39Look at all the different herbs and spices.
31:41Look at the cinnamon here, Dylan.
31:42Look at how long it is.
31:43Oh, wow.
31:44I use cinnamon sticks in our Christmas pudding ice cream, don't I?
31:47Oh, yeah, that's so nice.
31:48Yeah, with ginger biscuits and raisins and cream. I fancy some of that now, don't you?
31:52Oh, big time.
31:54No cooked chocolate cake, that's a good one.
31:57I won a gold medal for my Bakewell tart in the village.
32:00Pretty cool.
32:04It's just what we need.
32:05Yeah, it really is.
32:08Love for me came straight away with Dylan. I just adored him straight away.
32:11He was cheeky, up to mischief, all the time, with bows and arrows and water pistols.
32:18Ah, pupusas.
32:20P-p-pup-pusa. Pusa.
32:22He brought a lot of laughter.
32:24Whoop!
32:28Up until Dylan was 25 and left home, I knew him really well.
32:33But I think in the past eight years, he leads a different life.
32:37Gracias.
32:39Thank you.
32:41Are you feeling hungry?
32:42I am pretty hungry.
32:43Maybe a nice spot for the sunset.
32:46Sometimes days can drift by and I don't hear from you and you just leave voice notes.
32:50Yeah, sorry about that.
32:52Yeah, yeah.
32:54I'm looking forward to visiting you in your new home and you cooking me a nice meal.
33:01This is maybe motivating me to get stuck in on some cooking.
33:05Hopefully I don't burn it.
33:09Isn't it lovely to share this moment together?
33:11Yeah, it's been beautiful really.
33:13Yeah, we don't have time like this enough together, do we really?
33:15We don't.
33:16At home.
33:17Try and do a selfie.
33:21Okay.
33:22I'm useless at selfies, so you better do it.
33:24Okay.
33:25I think with this journey, I'm going to get to know you as an adult.
33:28Is it all right?
33:29That's horrible.
33:32I'm going to try this though.
33:35Sharing and Dylan's life is very special and I love them to bits.
33:41I don't think one has enough moments where you can just sit quietly in life.
33:47Hmm.
33:48It is quiet, isn't it?
33:49Yeah.
33:53Love you.
33:55Love you too.
33:56Morning.
33:57Wow.
33:58That's how you do some press ups.
34:14¡Suscríbete al canal!
34:44Anita and Bal are still 220 kilometres from the checkpoint
34:49and need to plot their exit strategy from El Salvador
34:53Today
34:53We're back, back in, let's get to where we need to be
34:57To the border
34:58So we're going to La Matillo, by road
35:00Depending on how far the checkpoint is, because it looks near on the map
35:04but we don't know what the journey is
35:06If we can get there today
35:07That's fantastic
35:09Do your...
35:10No, this is me, this is me
35:13Is there a moving bus?
35:18I'm going to catch that bus
35:19Is there a moving truck?
35:21I'm going to catch that truck
35:22Basically, get back into race mode
35:25There isn't any way to look cool in a light vest
35:30It's not quite the James Bond experience looking like this
35:33Having prioritised leaving El Salvador quickly
35:38Roman and Harley Moon are the first team to enter Honduras
35:42This is what it's all about
35:46Yesterday there was a lot of anxiety around whether we've gone the right way
35:52But look where we are
35:54This is really special
35:56Named by Europeans after the Archbishop Fonseca
35:59A nemesis of Christopher Columbus
36:01The gulf is surrounded by three countries
36:04El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua
36:07It's breathtaking to see it
36:09And it's not like anything I've ever seen before
36:11I feel like I'm in Jurassic Park
36:13We could have gone bus to bus to bus to bus to bus all the way around
36:17It would have been stressful
36:18We would have saved money
36:20But this is my kind of travel
36:22The largest Pacific island in Honduras
36:32Tiger Island was established as a major port by the Germans in the late 19th century
36:37Today, it is a peaceful fishing community
36:42And receives scant foreign visitors
36:44You're just worried about changing money
36:48Yeah
36:48Hola, hablo ingles
36:51Oh my god, this is brilliant
36:53Changing the money in here
36:54Just when someone's living really
36:56Maria de Jesus
36:57Maria, Jesus
36:58Para servirles
36:59Si, Roman
37:00Roman
37:01Ah, no problem
37:03Si, si, si
37:04Bienvenidos al lugar
37:05Que la disfruten
37:07Que vayan a pasear a conocer
37:10Todos los vomitos de Amapala
37:11No hablo español, perdona
37:14Si, si, si
37:15Eh, si, eh
37:17Si, eh
37:18Possible
37:19Cambio, US dollar
37:22Si
37:22Okay
37:23Change 50
37:2450, yeah
37:25I love this
37:26I love the whole set up
37:272,400 and something
37:30You happy with that?
37:31Yeah
37:31Okay
37:32Muy bien
37:33Adios
37:34I'm really looking forward to it
37:41I'm hoping we're going to have a nice day on Tiger Island
37:45Are you ready?
37:46Are you ready?
37:47Are you ready to get to a chat?
37:48Just stop
37:48There's a bus
37:51They're all 15
37:52I hope they're all going to the same place
37:53Fully recovered
37:55Molly and Tyler are planning to cross into Honduras at the El Amatillo border
38:00Via the transport hub of San Miguel
38:02San Miguelito
38:04No
38:05Checkpoint couldn't feel any more real
38:08Oh, it's so close today
38:11Do we know for definite that San Miguelito is San Miguel?
38:16I don't
38:18But I've seen every bus say San Miguelito, San Miguel, San Miguelito
38:23So I can only guess
38:24But it's the same
38:26The school pick
38:27Is this San Miguel?
38:30This bus, San Miguel?
38:31Otro
38:32Oh, another bus
38:34It's not going
38:35Oh, this is going San Salvador
38:38Okay
38:39Gracias
38:40So it's not
38:42Okay
38:42We're going to rewind our confidence there
38:45Then we're actually going back on ourselves
38:47Yeah
38:48I think we just need to get off
38:50Okay
38:51That's called moving quick
38:55We're in the wrong bus
38:56I feel like that was very good to talk to people
38:59Well done
38:59We need to get a bus from here
39:01To go
39:02That way
39:04This is not a bus stop
39:05That's a bus stop right there, no?
39:07No, but that's
39:07I think we need to go that way
39:10Not that way
39:11Okay
39:12Yeah, San Miguel
39:14San Miguel, San Miguelito
39:15Thank you
39:16Thank you
39:16I mean, that's why we're a good team
39:20Because we have the calm
39:23Need all the information
39:24That person
39:26And the storm
39:27And the storm
39:28I'm the storm
39:30Only 50 kilometres behind
39:33And aiming for the same border
39:34We have had a good journey so far
39:38I think we can get a checkpoint
39:39What's that?
39:42No
39:43Why not?
39:43Why not?
39:47Come on to the border
39:48Inching ahead
39:51Please don't stop
39:52Oh, he's stopping
39:54Oh, he's stopping
39:55He's stopping
39:56The bus is broken
40:02He's just asked us to push the bus
40:08To give it a jump start
40:09Are you ready?
40:11Yeah
40:12I guess so
40:13I'm here for moral support
40:20Is it on?
40:23Yay!
40:24All right
40:24Was that not the most attractive thing
40:27You've ever seen me do
40:28Yeah
40:28Thank you
40:28He's pretty fit
40:29He's pretty fit
40:29He's fair
40:29He better not stop again
40:32Otherwise I'm walking
40:33To the border again
40:34I told you
40:38Positivity
40:38Yeah
40:39What's coming over you
40:41I don't know
40:42You could do this
40:44First place
40:45What?

42:12Molly and Tyler
42:12Hi Val
42:13Are you following us?
42:15Well we had to be
42:16You've been winning the whole thing
42:17That means they've caught up
42:20The three hours head start
42:22Yes, they have caught us up
42:24Yeah, definitely
42:25Yeah
42:25Right, shall we go to that bus?
42:28Just ask where the bus is stopped
42:29We'll go find out
42:30Now in Honduras
42:31Just 170 kilometres
42:33Stands between three teams
42:35And the checkpoint
42:36Along the one road
42:37That crosses the sun-baked plains
42:39Of the Pacific lowlands
42:41With nightfall approaching
42:43They need to find a place
42:44To bend down
42:45Tonight
42:46We need to sleep somewhere
42:47Halfway
42:48Hotel?
42:49There's a hotel in Hicora
42:50Yeah, you can go with this
42:52With this
42:52With this bus
42:53All right, let's do it

43:07On this bus
43:08Oh, it's quite a cosy bus
43:11Not to pour it
43:12Off we go, dad
43:14It must be
43:15Such a sore feeling
43:17To have such a lead
43:18It's just not quite
43:20Lead our anymore
43:21Just 70 kilometres
43:28To the south
43:29I think this has been
43:31Such a welcome little stop
43:32Even if it was
43:34Just to clear our heads
43:35A little bit
43:36Yeah
43:37You know what we need
43:38To do tonight
43:39All right
43:39Find out how to get out of here
43:41Yeah
43:42We are in a race
43:46Okay
43:46So tomorrow
43:47We need to get back
43:49Into the mainland
43:50We're headed towards
43:51Valle de Angeles
43:52Oh, Valle de Angeles
43:54You can take the boat
43:55From here
43:55All right
43:56That one is
43:57A little bit expensive
43:58Okay
43:58But we go fishing
44:00Tomorrow morning
44:00And after fishing
44:02We can take you from here
44:03Yeah
44:03We'd be so grateful
44:05It will help our budget
44:06So I really appreciate it
44:08Cheers
44:08Salud
44:09Salud
44:10Salud
44:11Salute
44:11Salute
44:12Salute
44:12All right
44:14Let's go to the beach
44:15Woohoo
44:17That's it
44:18Let's shake off our stress
44:20What are we doing?
44:22We've got nothing to worry about
44:23We're happy
44:25And healthy
44:27And life is amazing
44:30I just feel a bit awkward
44:32Doing that
44:33I don't know
44:34Woohoo
44:35What am I meant to be doing?
44:37Feeling happy
44:38I don't know
44:40I get embarrassed
44:41About feeling happy
44:42I have to say
44:42I'm so happy
44:43I'm so happy
44:48Woohoo
44:49I'm not going to have
44:50Anxiety tomorrow
44:52Not going to have
44:53Anxiety tomorrow
44:54Shake it out of your body
44:55We're going to win the race
45:01We're going to win the race
45:02It's been a long time since
45:05You know Harley and I
45:06Have just kind of been silly together
45:08And it helped
45:10Being able to be silly with her
45:12Is
45:12Kind of a special moment
45:15The more she's understanding
45:16How my brain works
45:17The more she's trying to
45:19Help me and not push me away
45:21Which
45:22Is
45:23A massive
45:24Massive breakthrough
45:25In our relationship
45:26Feel alright?
45:28Yeah, I'm alright
45:29You're doing a good job in life
45:31I'm doing a good job in life
45:33I'm doing okay
45:34Have a good night's sleep guys
45:42Ah, the first to jump
45:44Are these guys getting off too?
45:48Or do they know that we don't?
45:49Good luck to you
45:50Night guys
45:50The plot thickens
45:52As darkness falls
45:54Two teams stop for the night
45:56One as much as
45:57But following the trail of a tip-off
45:59Anita and Bal push on
46:01Inshallah
46:02Ah, brilliant
46:04Well done
46:04I swear I saw someone in a red t-shirt
46:10Go into the room on the corner
46:11Yeah, I swear I saw the bag
46:13It's too close, my old
46:15I don't
46:16I might shower now
46:17Put my clothes on
46:19Sleep upright
46:21With my bag on
46:23With my bag on
46:23We just go
46:24It's game time
46:27It's an incredible feeling
46:31To catch up with Anita and Bal
46:33Absolutely shocked
46:34I'd love to see Dylan's face
46:36If we did win
46:36He just wouldn't believe it
46:39I'm thinking
46:41What's happened with Anita and Bal
46:43Because they stayed on
46:44They looked a bit worried
46:45Whether they've done the right decision
46:46Wow, Dad
46:49Doesn't look like this much here
46:52Six kilometres closer to the checkpoint
46:55Hola, amigo
46:56Hotel, aquí?
46:59Hotel?
47:00Si?
47:00Eh, no
47:02No, no, no
47:03That's where everybody got
47:05No, no hotel
47:08No, there's no hotel here
47:11Hotel?
47:11Hotel?
47:11Hotel?
47:12So now we're here
47:14Standing on a one-horse town
47:16With no hotel
47:17So we're going back there
47:19What if there's no rooms
47:25Left?
47:335.15am
47:34This must be how Usain Bolt felt
47:38On the qualifiers for the Olympics
47:40I just really want to get out of last
47:45130 kilometres south of the checkpoint
47:48Oh, I see people at the top, Mums
47:49I think that's Dylan and Jackie
47:51Oh, I think that's, um
47:54Is it?
47:55Yeah
47:56That's one block
47:57That's the second
47:58What's that?
47:59Anita and Bal?
48:01So they had to go back on themselves
48:03Oh, how funny
48:03We did to make the right call
48:05Yeah, yeah, yeah
48:06Stopping off here
48:06All right, how are we?
48:08Morning
48:09Morning
48:10Did you stay here last night, yeah?
48:12Yeah, we did
48:13The hotel was supposed to be there
48:14We got to it
48:15They said it's so
48:16Poof, it's gone
48:17Then we came back here
48:19Jackie and Dylan are already here
48:21And then
48:22Anita and Bal pull up
48:24So they didn't get much further, did they?
48:26Whoa!
48:27What?
48:29I've never seen you like this in the morning
48:31Look, it is what it is
48:34We just have to beat them in the foot race
48:36But Roman and Harley could already be there
48:43Yeah
48:43What time do you want to call it?
48:5320 past
48:54Yeah
48:55The boat that's meant to be taking us
48:59Is still not back
49:00Christian
49:02He's gone fishing
49:04And if he's late
49:06We're screwed
49:07He said he'd be back
49:09To come and collect us
49:10To go
49:11To Coyolito
49:12I wouldn't want to try and go
49:14Into the town
49:15And panic
49:15And go
49:16And realistically
49:16Even if we go into the town
49:18It will take some time
49:19To find one
49:19I'm like
49:21The more hours we're losing
49:23It's wrecking my nerves
49:25Come on, man
49:27Come on
49:28Don't let us down
49:29Don't let us down
49:30It's getting tight
49:32This is not an ideal situation
49:35Okay
49:38Roman
49:39Yeah
49:40There is a boat
49:42There's a boat
49:42There's a boat
49:44It's for Coyolito
49:47Harley, let's go
49:51Yeah
49:52Oh, the relief
49:55That was high anxiety
49:58I'm not going to lie
49:59I think just standing
50:00And waiting for anything
50:01Is like the worst feeling
50:03In this race
50:03It's
50:04Más rápido
50:05Sí
50:06I've got Hawkeyes
50:08And I can see

54:47That's what I'm talking about
54:49Molly, absolutely
54:50She has been my guiding star
54:53This leg
54:54And also proved that she is a boss at making decisions
54:59I think slowly but surely
55:01I am getting more confident with my decision making
55:04I think I'm showing myself like each time

57:28Okay
57:29Horse, cart, donkey
57:31Piggyback
57:31All that nice moment we had last night
57:33It's like

57:35It doesn't matter
57:36Anything
57:36Oh, back on
57:37I love my life
57:39If I'm a winner
57:40Right, right
