00:00We've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving.
00:04So all of this needs to be done before then.
00:07Walls and ceilings are really important, actually.
00:10Underrated sometimes.
00:13He's a good boy.
00:15What keeps us going in between the highs and lows
00:19of the whole renovation project
00:21is when we can get together and do things as a family.
00:24Oh, they're bringing it out.
00:26Any little tiny mistake and the whole glass table top
00:30could shatter into a million pieces.
00:32I'm getting nervous now.
00:35Where's the end?
00:37Whose idea was it about 100 feet of light?
00:40With some guests coming in a few weeks,
00:43it's going to be really nice to have the Sun Terrace finished.
00:46Ha!
00:47Finally!
00:49Yeah.
00:53Boost!
00:56Go on, Joy.
00:57Ah!
00:58Feels like a big moment at the end of a long journey.
01:01That's leprechaun green.
01:03Beautiful colour.
01:04I love the colour.
01:05Please, though, I share it.
01:06But, yeah, it's not.
01:07It's too bright.
01:08The intensity at the moment,
01:11so close to the end,
01:13is ridiculous.
01:15Well, if he doesn't do it on Thursday,
01:17it won't be done in time.
01:19No.
01:20Why?
01:21Because he's only got Thursday and Friday
01:22pushing it already.
01:23I'm just having to leave it all in John's hands.
01:28I don't know.
01:29It just couldn't be worse timing, really.
01:34We'll do it.
01:35Are we fine?
01:36Yes.
01:37How lucky we are.
01:41I think it's pretty touch-and-go
01:43as to whether everything will be finished on time
01:46for the housewarming party.
01:48It's too close to call.
01:49On the Costa del Sol,
02:04the renovation project is heating up.
02:07With the first floor and basement finished,
02:09the heart of the house is starting to near completion.
02:12The kitchen's in.
02:15Now the fun starts.
02:17Because we feel like we're so close
02:19to the end of the renovation.
02:21We thought it would be nice to hold a little summer party
02:25slash housewarming
02:27and just a way of saying thanks to all those people
02:29that have helped along the way.
02:30The party is in a little over a week away
02:35and there's still a long list of jobs left to complete.
02:40I do feel like if we're going to get this party across the line
02:43for the start of summer
02:45to sort of celebrate the end of the renovation,
02:47we might be cutting it down to the wire slightly.
02:51As they approach the finish line,
02:53the jobs that are left are largely skilled building work
02:56that Jasmine and John aren't qualified to help with.
03:00There are lots of jobs happening all at once.
03:04There's work going on in practically every corner of this house.
03:09But needs must.
03:10We've got to get it all done.
03:13But what she can do is try and keep Dominic
03:16and his team to their schedule.
03:18After an extensive hunt to find balustrades
03:21to finish off the exterior staircase,
03:23he has managed to source ones that match the 30-year-old design
03:26of the originals in a local builder's yard.
03:30Ah, that's good.
03:31It's like looking for gold, this.
03:34Slightly what?
03:35It's like looking for gold.
03:37How do you mean?
03:38Getting one of these in stock.
03:40Oh, you managed to find one, though.
03:41Yeah, and they've got the rest of these.
03:43Lovely.
03:44But, erm, something like that.
03:48We'll just get rid of that last post.
03:49Yeah.
03:50How do you attach it to the...
03:51Chemical anchor.
03:52Chemical anchor.
03:53And because it's big and square,
03:55it just puts that last bit of strength in there.
03:57Strength.
03:58Amazing.
03:59It's worked really well.
04:01Oh, thank you.
04:02Doesn't it, though?
04:04Elsewhere outside,
04:06the tiling of the stairs down to the basement
04:08is proceeding apace.
04:10You can hear the tile cutting going on.
04:14They're doing the stairs, the stair risers,
04:16which is brilliant.
04:17I'll be so happy when they're done.
04:19It will set the whole thing off.
04:20But, as you can hear, it's super noisy here.
04:24There is no escape from this racket.
04:29I've chosen quite a traditional tile for the stair risers,
04:39because I think it's in keeping
04:41with the traditional style of this house.
04:43I think those stairs would be so boring
04:47if you had the same tile on every single part,
04:50but the fact we've got quite a modern tile on the top,
04:53which extends down to the patio,
04:55but then a really beautiful traditional style tile on the risers.
05:00It just makes them much more of a feature.
05:04However, one feature they have had little control of
05:07is the neighbour's wall.
05:08It remains unfinished as their builder has become ill.
05:12What are we going to do about the wall in the garden?
05:14But we haven't really got any control over that, have we?
05:17No.
05:18Shall I phone my neighbour and see?
05:21Shall I phone her and just sound it out
05:23and see what's happening now?
05:25With the wall stalling the garden progress for now,
05:30the attention is on getting the exterior of the house up to scratch.
05:35There are lots of areas of the house that haven't been painted yet.
05:39Carlos and Martin did the front of the house,
05:44and so there's still the side and the back of the house to do.
05:51Dominic's team are painting inside too.
06:00Jasmine wants to paint the alcove shelves green,
06:03and a sample of the colour that she wants is already up.
06:06So I think it's going to be quite a dark colour.
06:09I think that's the idea.
06:10I think I need to see the paint in the flesh rather than looking at it on a screen
06:16to see if it's going to work.
06:18Because that's probably a bit too green.
06:20I can already see.
06:21Yeah, it's too dark, isn't it?
06:23It's not too dark, it's too green.
06:25It's not pastel enough, is it, sort of?
06:26It needs to be more of a grey-y green.
06:29It is hard to have the confidence to paint a wall green.
06:32I think revamping them by painting this beautiful, really deep green colour
06:38will really make them look much more attractive
06:42once you've got beautiful things on the shelves,
06:44and, you know, it'll make the fireplace really stand out.
06:48So it's just a question of finding the right shade of green.
07:03The next day, Dominic has painted the alcoves in the new green that Jasmine wants
07:08to test how the colour looks on a big surface.
07:11So, we've had a colour match for this green,
07:16and it hasn't matched that well.
07:19Jasmine's come up.
07:20It should have a hint of grey in it,
07:24and it doesn't.
07:25It's really green.
07:26We are not happy with it, but Jasmine hasn't seen it yet,
07:29so we're waiting.
07:35Ah!
07:37Looks...
07:38Yes.
07:39Doesn't look exactly like the one I chose, I don't think.
07:42No.
07:43A bit more greeny, like grass green, isn't it?
07:45It is.
07:47We haven't got that grey tinge to it.
07:51So is that the one I chose, and that's the one that they've given you
07:54when they've tried to match it?
07:56So on the left is the pink colour we want, the one you chose.
07:59Yeah.
08:00I mean, it's a nice colour, but I don't... I think it's not quite...
08:03That's leprechaun green.
08:04It's not quite leprechaun, is it?
08:06But it is.
08:07I mean, it's a beautiful colour.
08:08I love the colour.
08:09It is though I share, but...
08:10But yeah, it's not...
08:11It's too bright.
08:12Knowing that Jasmine might not like it, Dominic has created a new shade of green by mixing
08:17in some off-white paint.
08:19Like, I want it not the same colour as the kitchen, but a similar muted sort of grey-green,
08:28but darker than the kitchen.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Now, number two mix is this one.
08:36So it's very close to that.
08:38Right.
08:39Very, very close.
08:40That looks much better, actually.
08:42Yeah, it's very good.
08:43Unfortunately, our timber, the one for the wood, is coming out drastically...
08:52That's the same as that, no? Or that?
08:55No, no, no.
08:56I don't think any of them are exactly the same.
08:59I'll give that another coat.
09:00See how it looks when it's dry.
09:02See, just to make sure, because some paints, they're just a bit more depth when they change,
09:06you know?
09:07I don't think you'll ever paint a piece of wood and paint the wall and it be identical colours
09:11with the same colour pattern.
09:13It just doesn't happen.
09:14You know what I mean?
09:16The decision is made to paint over the area and the wooden doors of the cupboards with
09:21the new blend that Dominic has created and then they will assess the overall effect.
09:26Well, let me know how you get on.
09:28I'll come and have a look once we've got that woodwork paint sorted.
09:34All right.
09:35OK.
09:39After making that big decision, another one Jasmine made a while ago is being delivered.
09:45I've been putting off getting the big furniture for the living room, like the sofa, because
09:52we didn't have space anywhere to store it and I didn't want it to get ruined before we'd
09:57even had a chance to use it.
09:59But when the sofa arrived, still a bit too early, really.
10:03We're not ready for it.
10:04It's really exciting.
10:06Along with the other jobs on the to-do list, the deadline is focusing minds.
10:12The party is coming up incredibly soon and so we need to start getting the furniture
10:19in.
10:20Otherwise, we risk not having it there on the day.
10:25In Estepona, it's a hive of activity at the house.
10:41Even Joy and Albion are getting involved.
10:44You know our old dining room table?
10:46Yeah.
10:47Yeah.
10:48What about painting the legs green to match the new green cupboards that Mummy's done?
10:53OK.
10:56I mean, painting is not my forte.
10:59I think we've learned not a lot is my forte when it comes to DIY, but Albion did all those
11:04months back paint his bedside table and that came out looking pretty good.
11:08So, yeah.
11:09I mean, I think the problem with the kids is their attention span.
11:12I imagine we'll start the legs and I'll be the one finishing the legs.
11:16You ready?
11:19That's it.
11:20Look.
11:21Well done.
11:22This is so satisfying.
11:23It's satisfying, right?
11:24That's how satisfying it'll be when you're eating your dinner off your fancy new table
11:27that you two have done yourselves.
11:29Are you looking forward to the renovating ending?
11:34Yes.
11:35We can finally be in a house that's not dusty.
11:38We can finally be in a house that's not dusty.
11:40We can finally be in a house that doesn't have lots of tradesmen.
11:44And also, for the rest of the summer holidays, you can have lions without being woken up by
11:49hammering and drilling and cutting and grinding.
11:52Yeah.
11:54Throughout the renovation, with the environment and budget in mind, Jasmine and John have tried
11:59to recycle what they can.
12:02That's good Alps.
12:03Good work.
12:05This table was one of the first things we bought to put in this house.
12:09And it was 80 euros with four chairs.
12:14And now we're getting to use it again and we're giving it a new lease of life.
12:18Maybe we could paint your nose green and give you a new lease of life.
12:21Sounds fun.
12:23I volunteer.
12:25Good to join.
12:26You volunteer to have your nose painted?
12:27No, to paint his nose.
12:29I would just roll over any bits where it's like thick.
12:32Like in that corner.
12:34Or Alvi's doing under there.
12:35Like a mechanic.
12:37He's just underneath a car fixing it.
12:40You've done well.
12:43Two more legs to go and the backs.
12:46Yeah, I do worry that in the last few weeks of focusing on renovation,
12:49we've kind of neglected the kids a bit.
12:51So even spending half an hour painting a table leg is nice.
12:57With the legs requiring a few coats of paint,
13:00it'll be a few days before the table is ready.
13:03Another job Jasmine and John want to strike off their to-do list
13:07is getting their driveway gates installed.
13:11We've had to build a new column just to take the weight of the gate.
13:15We've liaised with the gate guy who hasn't got the gate yet.
13:19It's quite a mechanism.
13:21Hopefully it will turn up.
13:22We had a three week lead time and we're very close to six weeks now.
13:27So as you can imagine, it's not the greatest.
13:31From one problem outside that's out of their control
13:35to one inside that John can shed some light on.
13:38The one thing we've slightly realised is because this kitchen is from a showroom,
13:44they're obviously giving you the two options of colours of lights.
13:50A nice warm light and a much less nice daylight.
13:56So currently that's my worst nightmare.
13:59As a...
14:01I mean that literally is my pet hate.
14:02If you stay in a hotel that has mixed colour temperatures lighting,
14:05it does my head in.
14:07So we'll have to solve that somehow.
14:09This is white.
14:11But we want this one.
14:13Three...
14:15This.
14:16Like tungsten.
14:17Okay.
14:19Okay.
14:21Yeah, it's better.
14:22Warm.
14:23Warm.
14:26With the housewarming party around the corner,
14:28Jasmine still needs to tackle an untouched room.
14:32Our bedroom has been the very last priority of everything
14:39because we're trying to get the children's areas done
14:43and then trying to get all the communal areas done.
14:46But what I would love to see and hear is a really calming space
14:52where I can just come and relax.
14:55That day will come one day.
14:59I'm sure.
15:01So this bed we bought together with Joy's bed
15:06and both beds were upholstered with like a grey linen
15:10but underneath was this nice velvet which I actually prefer.
15:13So I just took off the linen and we've got a brand new bed.
15:17I've had to move the bed out of the way because the electrician was fitting this light fitting.
15:23It feels a bit low actually but I think because it's over the bed it will be fine.
15:27So I'm going to try and move the bed back into its normal position
15:30and then I can get all the furniture in place and get rid of all the other junk.
15:34I'm not sure how heavy it is.
15:37OK.
15:42It's like driving a very big car.
15:45When I bent down did that sound like I farted?
15:49It's like I farted.
16:03Voila.
16:05With orders for bedside tables and furnishings yet to arrive,
16:09finishing the main bedroom will be down to the wire.
16:12When Jasmine and John started their build, they thought it would have been finished by now.
16:20However, with delays accumulating over the course of the renovation,
16:24the house is still a building site.
16:32So with Jasmine's family in town for a special occasion,
16:36they are taking a much needed break from the renovation.
16:38We are having a nice family boat trip today to celebrate my sister's birthday.
16:45And she's out here with the rest of the family.
16:49Three, two, one.
16:55Whoo!
16:57We had a really nice afternoon out on our boat.
17:02And that was a good break because I had no phone signal.
17:06It's not.
17:10Yes.
17:15But reality returns as soon as they reach the shore.
17:19With a few days until the housewarming party,
17:22they have received news on the driveway gates.
17:26We've had a couple of minor obstacles with getting the driveway finished.
17:32The gates have been slightly delayed.
17:34The manufacturer has said there's a small complication with the centre post.
17:43So they're working on it.
17:45They're going to get it to us as soon as possible.
17:47I don't know how soon that's going to be.
17:49But as I'm coming to realise, nothing is ever straightforward.
17:54With an uncertainty as to whether the gates will arrive in time for the housewarming party, there is however better news in the living area.
18:03Quinn has been painting the wooden elements of the lounge unit with Dominic's new mix of the green paint.
18:08How's the green?
18:13I think it's a good match.
18:15I mean, it looks good here.
18:17Yeah, totally so.
18:19Especially those little handles.
18:21Yeah.
18:22Because that looks very different at the moment to there.
18:24That's got more natural light on it though.
18:26It's a really good match.
18:27And I was sceptical.
18:28But now it's done.
18:29It's good.
18:30Yeah.
18:31I take it back.
18:32Jazz was right again.
18:33Well, yeah, I do agree.
18:34Everybody said that.
18:35Everybody's gone, no.
18:36And then looked at it and gone, oh, no, it's fine, actually.
18:38It's good.
18:39A few ornaments in there will get even better, won't it?
18:41At this stage of the process, we just need everything.
18:44Yeah, everything.
18:45Can't change anything.
18:46Got to look nice.
18:47With the work paused for the evening, there's nothing more they can do except continue the celebrations for the birthday girl.
19:01And finally put the basement area through its paces.
19:04It's just a bit tricky because obviously we don't have a proper kitchen and it's really dusty and the garden is full of mud and tiles and stuff like that.
19:24But we're not letting that dampen our spirits.
19:26Here we go.
19:29Happy birthday to you.
19:34We're still enjoying time together and we are still celebrating her birthday.
19:41So it's so nice to have them here.
19:44Happy birthday to you.
19:49Oh, that's nice.
19:51Make a wish.
19:52Make a wish, big wish.
19:57Come on.
19:58Hey.
20:00We miss them a lot and wish we could see more of them.
20:03I can't imagine how stressful this is because I've only been here for two days and it's hard work living in a house where the kitchen is not finished and you're and that kind of thing.
20:15But it looks like it's going to be fantastic.
20:16We still have quite a mountain to climb and it feels like we've still got quite a lot ahead of us.
20:25And the mountain is tall, but the time to get up there is very short.
20:32This renovation has been all consuming for us over the last few months and the intensity at the moment, so close to the end, is ridiculous.
20:45It's gone to the next level.
20:46It's gone to the next level.
20:48So it never stops.
20:49You know, we have, of course, taken some time off to be with the family, but it's straight back into it.
20:57On the Costa del Sol, there's good news with the neighbours adjoining wall, allowed builder Matt and the team to crack on.
21:18Finally, things are starting to happen with this wall.
21:23My neighbour's got a new builder who seems to be very good and they've been working on it so that we can get this side finished.
21:33So the guys have already red gripped it, ready to be plastered, rendered.
21:40The light fittings can be on because the electricity is there ready.
21:46We've got so little time left before everyone's coming round to see our house and to appreciate everything.
21:55It's cutting it really fine now to try and get this garden done in the time that we've got.
22:01And that wall, well, we can just hope for a miracle.
22:06Though it's not finished, having the basic wall constructed, work can now begin on the garden.
22:13We are so lucky with this house because we have the most lovely neighbours.
22:19Maria and Manuel and their children live next door.
22:23Manuel's a gardener and when he saw the stay of the garden after the builders had terrorised it, he said, would you like me to come and help you with the garden?
22:36And I was like, yes, please, because I'm so bad with gardens.
22:40Preparing the soil is the first step with the garden and we can do that straight away.
22:45Then we can put in the plants and we can put turf down because the grass is gone now.
22:49The grass is completely wrecked.
22:52And when we have the housewarming party, it would be really nice if the garden was green.
22:58And I think it would just finish it off.
23:01To be honest, turfing it is a more expensive solution, but it is also a much quicker solution.
23:08And at the moment, time is of the essence.
23:15With the builders and gardeners done for the day, Jasmine, John, Joy and Albion take a step off site and a step back onto the court.
23:25Amazingly, it's been almost five months to the week since I broke my leg playing paddle.
23:31And yet it feels in the last few weeks, I finally stopped limping, which feels like a good achievement.
23:38I mean, I'm definitely going to take it easy, being that it's the first game back.
23:49But also today feels, feels like a big moment at the end of a long journey.
23:58Yes, Joy.
24:01Mummy.
24:04Joy got two great returns. Mummy.
24:07I tell you, I can never get the hand-eye coordination.
24:12Like, I think the racket's longer than it is. Go on, you can do it.
24:16I am hopeless. I wouldn't quite say I'm a lost cause, but close.
24:21So I think if I was to do it more regularly, I'd get better.
24:25I think I've got some sort of problem with spatial awareness. I should have some lessons. Why don't you give me some lessons?
24:32I'm not sure I can teach spatial awareness. No, don't...
24:36Ready?
24:37Jazz. Tonight feels like a really pivotal moment. My leg break sort of surprised us all and has genuinely dominated far too much of this year.
24:52So it feels like, from this point onwards, we can sort of push any leg issues or worries behind us.
25:00We can move forward with family life and the life that we intended, the reason we moved out here.
25:05It feels like it can begin again.
25:09Good game. Here's to many more happy paddle games.
25:12Yeah.
25:14It almost feels like we are coming full circle and we're coming through a pretty dark tunnel where, you know, John broke his leg, then he got thrombosis, then he had a heart attack.
25:28And all of that coinciding with all of the renovation of the house.
25:35I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.
25:46With the neighbour's wall now heading in the right direction, Jasmine is hopeful that the garden will be turfed in time for the housewarming party.
25:54So she heads off to get some plants.
25:58I absolutely love garden centres. I could just walk around all day spending money. It's a nightmare.
26:05I shouldn't be trusted in a garden centre.
26:08The main things that I'm looking for today are some nice plants for the garden that are colourful, indigenous plants that we don't need loads of watering or don't need loads of maintenance.
26:21I also need to look into how much it's going to cost me to buy topsoil.
26:24I probably need a bit of advice on what to buy because I don't really know much about gardening at all.
26:31Hello.
26:32Hello.
26:33Hello.
26:34Hello.
26:35Sorry, what are the best plants for the outside that don't need a lot of maintenance, but with flowers very beautiful, green every year?
26:48Okay.
26:49Well, if you want, we'll see the outside area.
26:52I'll show you a little bit more.
26:53Yes, thank you.
26:54Look.
26:55Look, look.
26:56Well, in particular, look.
26:58Look for small
27:23The bougainvillea.
27:24The bougainvillea.
27:25De todos los colores.
27:26Ah, sÃ.
27:27Me encanta de bougainvillea.
27:29SÃ, es muy tÃpica de esa zona.
27:31SÃ, y muchas personas me dicen que bougainvillea no deberÃa tener.
27:39¿Por qué?
27:40Porque...
28:01I really think that plants and greenery just finish off a space.
28:05For me, it doesn't look finished if you haven't got plants there.
28:13Maybe this little one to get started.
28:17This tree is only 33 euros.
28:20Look how nice it is.
28:24Oh, that was close.
28:28Wow, these are amazing.
28:30This is mimosa, and they have a beautiful yellow flower.
28:34When you touch them, the leaves all close up.
28:37It's really amazing.
28:42So weird.
28:43I'm going to take this one.
28:44I'm going to take this one.
28:47It withers before your eyes.
28:49I feel like I've just come out with a random selection of plants that I like, but I'm not quite sure where each one's going to go.
29:04I'm sure each one will find its place in my home.
29:07It looks like a lot in the trolley, but I don't think it's going to even touch the sides once I get this lot home.
29:12I'll be back for sure.
29:14Back at the house, builder Dominic has completed the balustrade for the stairs leading to the garden.
29:30Where we've installed the stairs from the ground floor balcony down to the garden level, we obviously had to take out a little bit of the balustrades.
29:42And so, in order to make that safe and stable, we've had to put in a newel post, which is like the corner post, which keeps everything stable, solid.
29:53No one's going to lean on the balcony, and it will all tumble down.
29:58John is lending a hand with a job that is within his skill set, grouting on the outside of the basement window.
30:05Basically, we're running out of time.
30:07There's loads of tiles that aren't grouted.
30:09I'm trying to grout them before we have our party and everything else.
30:19I'm sure grouting is my forte, but if you know by now DIY is not my forte.
30:34Even that's pretty too much water.
30:39Tiny, tiny little...
30:41I think I've just used half their brouter.
30:51After mixing a fresh, thicker batch, John can proceed.
30:57I'm not sure if this is the right colour for this tile, whether it should be more of a pure white.
31:03Last time I actually grouted was the first flat Jazz and I bought together.
31:09That was the last time I did any grouting.
31:11And that grouting looked terrible too.
31:13I think Jazz is going to come back and tell me this should be white.
31:17Because now I see it against the fluids.
31:20Not quite right though.
31:32As he finishes off, Jasmine is back from the garden centre to assess his work.
31:36I haven't had grout since that flat.
31:39I haven't.
31:40I forgot that you need so little water in your mixes that I basically trashed like half the bag of grout and had to throw it down the drain.
31:48This looks okay, right?
31:49That looks really good.
31:50It's amazing how white that looks compared to the stuff when it's not on a blue tile.
31:54Is it the same?
31:55Same grout.
31:56Same grout.
31:57It looks really good.
31:58Well done.
31:59With friends and family coming in a matter of days for their party, there's still lots to finish.
32:08Everything is coming to a head.
32:10Everything is coming to the final decisions.
32:14The last big push to get everything across the line.
32:17To be honest, I'm finding it quite stressful.
32:21And there is an added complication.
32:24I've got to go to work in Portugal.
32:31It couldn't have come at a worse time, really.
32:34But I have been postponing this particular shoot until after the renovation was finished.
32:45But because we're so delayed now, I couldn't postpone it any longer.
32:50And I'm literally bailing going away to work in the last few days before our housewarming party.
33:02So, I'm just having to leave it all in John's hands.
33:09It just couldn't be worse timing, really.
33:12I don't really know.
33:13I don't really know what's going to happen.
33:18Whether everything's going to fall apart when I go away.
33:21Or whether I'm not as indispensable as I thought I was and I'll come back and it'll all be done.
33:28On the Costa del Sol.
33:44Jasmine and John's dream family home is nearing completion.
33:48But they have to finish the living area, driveway gates, the garden wall, lay the new turf and add all the finishing touches.
33:58But they have to do all of it without Jasmine as she's about to leave for a work trip to Portugal.
34:03It feels a bit like the shoe is on the other foot.
34:10I'm normally abandoning Jas for work and she's got everything on her plate.
34:15So, not only is there quite a lot to do for the party, try and sort out some sort of surprise entertainment, some cakes.
34:22But we also need to finish the house.
34:27Before she leaves, there's just time to do the final handover with the builders to sort out their plan for whilst Jasmine is away.
34:35The neighbour's wall is now built, but needs to be evened up with extra concrete, then rendered and finished.
34:42This all needs to happen before the garden turf can be laid, which Jasmine has already scheduled.
34:48It needs to be done by Wednesday.
34:51Remember?
34:52Mad.
34:53Remember, we spoke about this.
34:54It needs to be done by Wednesday.
34:55It can't be done by Wednesday.
34:56I've got the gardener coming to put the turf down on Thursday.
34:59Yeah.
35:00What's happened then?
35:01Has this changed?
35:02Because I thought it was going to be done by Wednesday.
35:06I've got like...
35:07Oh, God.
35:08You've got to bring it out and pack it out.
35:10If it was a normal brick wall, it would now be all capricaned, wouldn't it?
35:13But when you're trying to correct something else as well...
35:16I've only pushed all my junk at the time.
35:18Yeah, exactly.
35:19Bring it out, bring it out.
35:20It's literally about that much at the bottom, so you literally can't put that much cement
35:23on it, it'll just fall off.
35:24Well, if he doesn't do it on Thursday, it won't be done in time.
35:27No.
35:28No.
35:29Because he's only got Thursday and Friday, it's pushing it already.
35:31Yeah.
35:32That is exactly how it's going to go.
35:34Yeah.
35:35It's definitely down to the wide.
35:37I mean, obviously we want to do it right in the first place.
35:40If we do it, even if it's finished, not that way.
35:41I think if it's finished, then I think he'll get the turf in.
35:44Has he got a moment to spend, though, that I think he'll do it?
35:47Because we'll give anybody that needs a hand a hand.
35:50Yeah.
35:51So...
35:52But I think it'll get there.
35:53It's just going to be last minute.
35:54Yeah, no idea.
35:55Everything for the last three weeks.
35:57Yeah.
35:58Thanks, Chad.
35:59Beautiful.
36:00All right, guys.
36:01See you.
36:06We can't start the garden until the wall is plastered.
36:11And we've had so many delays already with that wall, which have been no fault of anyone.
36:18But it's taken a lot longer to get to this point than we expected.
36:23My mind was going at about a million miles an hour,
36:26trying to think of alternative ways to be able to get this all done in time.
36:35She'll just have to leave it up to John and the builders,
36:38as it's time for Jasmine to leave too.
36:42Sorry to leave you with all this.
36:44You've got even more on your plate now.
36:46That wall not going to be finished by the time we thought.
36:51Your time of being away is perfect.
36:55No, it's fine.
36:58You go away.
37:00You'll do it.
37:01It'll be fine.
37:02You lost it.
37:04Think how lucky we are.
37:07First world problems.
37:10Oh no, sorry.
37:11Hormonal.
37:12Build a moan away.
37:13I'm basically stressed up to my eyeballs, guilt up to my eyeballs as well.
37:32And, you know, just worried about leaving.
37:37Worried about things not happening when they were supposed to.
37:42Worrying about leaving John.
37:44Worrying about the kids.
37:45Okay.
37:46Well, phone me if you need anything.
37:51Will do.
37:52If not, I'll see you on the eve of our party.
37:56I know.
38:00Good luck.
38:01I'll get my bag.
38:02Drive safely.
38:03I think it's pretty touch and go as to whether everything will be finished on time for the housewarming party.
38:19It's too close to call.
38:21The next day, despite her departure, the work has to continue regardless.
38:37With one of the missing pieces of the jigsaw finally arriving.
38:41Hola.
38:42Is that the worktop?
38:46The worktop's arrived.
38:47The kitchen is very ready for a worktop.
38:50The worktop company have pulled out all the stops to get it here in time.
38:54Let's get it in.
38:57Not kind of go fine at all.
38:58Three days before some sort of summer party or gathering.
39:04And we've got loads of deliveries still to come.
39:07The worktop's arriving.
39:08Tiles for the kitchen are arriving.
39:11I mean, I've sort of lost track.
39:13It's all slotting in perfectly.
39:15Bring on next week when it's all over.
39:18This is where we hope it fits.
39:27Wow.
39:28And my big beef with the old worktop was you couldn't see when it was dirty.
39:33Well, you're definitely going to see when this is dirty.
39:34It looks good.
39:35I mean, I did entirely leave the worktop decision to jazz.
39:49I've seen a tiny sample.
39:51It's good.
39:52It looks like a worktop that I'll enjoy wiping obsessively every five minutes.
39:56It's getting there now though.
39:57It's really getting there.
39:58Yeah, look.
39:59Yeah, that's good, right?
40:00That's lovely.
40:01Those guys are really good.
40:02You can barely see the seam, can't you?
40:03That is a good worktop, eh?
40:04I mean, this one, where even is it?
40:05No, there isn't one.
40:06Well, there is one there.
40:07It goes through there.
40:08I mean, it's so well done.
40:09Another sinks in.
40:10It's good.
40:11It's getting there.
40:12This level's nearly done.
40:13Final touches now and then we'll be there.
40:14Yeah.
40:15Fingers crossed.
40:16I mean, in theory the tiling is not...
40:17It shouldn't take too long because it's not that high really.
40:18Is it two rows high you're going for?
40:19I was about to ask you the same question.
40:20I think we were going to go two rows.
40:21Yeah.
40:22I mean, really, it's just the finish.
40:23It's just the finish.
40:24It's just the finish.
40:25It's just the finish.
40:26You can barely see the seam, can't you?
40:27That is a good worktop, eh?
40:28I mean, this one is...
40:29Where even is it?
40:30No, there isn't one.
40:31Well, there is one there.
40:32It goes through there.
40:33I mean, it's so well done.
40:34Another sinks in.
40:35It's good.
40:36It's getting there.
40:37It's getting there.
40:38It's getting there.
40:39I was about to ask you the same question.
40:40Oh, sorry.
40:41I think we were going to go two rows.
40:43Yeah.
40:44I mean, really, it's just the finishes now.
40:45We need to finish that little bit of painting,
40:47because obviously that plaster was...
40:48Wet.
40:49...been a little bit pained dry.
40:51It just needs to put the final tiles on, the fixtures,
40:55and the lights really, and I think that's it in here.
40:57Well, and the tap, but...
40:59Yeah.
41:00The kitchen company are coming to do all that.
41:03Oh, perfect.
41:05With the worktop installed,
41:07the fitting company can now connect the water supply.
41:12And Dominic's team can start fitting the splash-back tiles.
41:17John is also on hand to get the all-important lesson
41:20on how to operate his new gadget.
41:23It's warm.
41:24It's warm if it's warm.
41:26And if it's a prolonged thing,
41:29it's blue, blue.
41:31It's green.
41:32It's green.
41:33It's green.
41:34It's green.
41:35It's a filter.
41:38Yes, it's this.
41:40Ah, okay.
41:41Perfect.
41:42So, for warm...
41:44Two push...
41:46Two push...
41:47Two push...
41:48Two...
41:49Ah, no, ah.
41:51Two.
41:52This is warm.
41:53But, attention, it's 5 degrees.
41:5610 degrees.
41:57And now...
41:58Cold.
41:59When it's...
42:00Cold.
42:01Long.
42:02Long.
42:03Blue.
42:04And now it's the white.
42:05Ah, okay.
42:06My Spanish plumbing chat is very sketchy.
42:10There's a few leaks in my vocabulary,
42:13let's just say.
42:15And so, yeah, it's...
42:17Again, it's one of those awkward moments where I'm just like,
42:19yeah, muy bien, muy bien.
42:21Wow.
42:22Not just Caliente, but boiling.
42:25I understood snippets of him explaining how the fancy tap worked.
42:29Erm...
42:30But, yeah, I think I understood about 40% of what he said.
42:34Jazz and I love a kitchen gadget.
42:37I think the kitchen is from the places in the house for the best gadgets, right?
42:42A boiling water tap.
42:43I mean, I know it's a first world problem.
42:46But if you can stretch your budget to a boiling water tap, it is the best.
42:52But not everything is going as swimmingly.
42:55The ceiling lights being installed have hit a snag.
42:58It's not...
42:59It won't go in there?
43:00It's all right.
43:01It's...
43:02It's long, isn't it?
43:03They're so long, yeah.
43:05Yeah, I'll keep your feet warm upstairs in the bedroom, that will.
43:08Well, I hope they have LED, aren't they?
43:10Oh, no, they're not.
43:11Are they LED?
43:12No, that's okay.
43:13Yeah, it's okay.
43:14You've got about three mil.
43:15Is that what you said?
43:16I think you will.
43:17You'll be all right.
43:18Hang on.
43:19I'm going to hide in the basement for five minutes.
43:27With Jazz going away, and an ever-increasing list of things to complete, the pressure feels
43:32like it's really on.
43:35It feels really satisfying that the finish line is in sight, but it does feel a little bit
43:39like someone keeps popping up hurdles on your way to said finish line, and the said finish
43:44line keeps slightly moving back like some sort of mirage in the desert.
43:49At this point in the proceedings, I am quite concerned that we've got a list that is bigger
43:54than the amount of time we have to do it in for our housewarming party.
44:01The house is sort of under control.
44:08Nothing to panic about.
44:10That wall is giving us a lot of grey hair.
44:12We're going to have this lovely party.
44:14Just behind us is going to be this grey, ugly beast.
44:18Don't wind me up.
44:19In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have called her.
44:21A guitarist.
44:22Una guitarista.
44:23I can't even say the bloody basics.
44:24How am I going to get a band?
44:25So I've got that one, I've got that one, but then the little ones haven't arrived.
44:31Oh no.
44:32We're exhausted, but we're ready to party.
44:37It's actually making me emotional.
44:41It's actually making me emotional.
45:06Let's see.
