U.S. President Donald Trump will meet New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday after a contentious election marked by clashes over immigration, funding and national policy.

00:20with Trump backing Mamdani's opponent and threatening to withhold federal funding if Mamdani won.

00:25Trump confirmed the meeting in his true social post on Wednesday, saying it will take place in the Oval Office on November 21st.

00:35Mamdani's team had earlier said they reached out to the White House,

00:39with a spokesperson saying the mayor lacked plans to discuss public safety, economic security and affordability, key themes of his campaign.

00:47The two have long been at odds.

00:49Mamdani has criticised Trump's immigration crackdowns and Washington's support for Israel during the Gaza War,

00:54while Trump has characterised the mayor-elect as a communist.

00:59Mamdani will be sworn in as the city's mayor on January 1st.
