00:00How are you feeling tonight to be here at the VMAs?
00:03This is my first VMAs, so yeah, it's my first rodeo.
00:07This is 40 years of VMAs right now.
00:11Do you have an earliest memory or some iconic performances that you remember seeing as a kid?
00:17I just know so many iconic performances happen at the VMAs,
00:20so I'm glad to actually be here in person to watch some of that go down.
00:24Well, you have an album that's dropping. Is it dropping in September?
00:28It's Friday. My album drops on Friday.
00:31Yeah.
00:31How would you describe this new era of music that you're putting out right now?
00:35This record's called Postcards from Texas, and I made it in Austin.
00:38I hadn't made a record in Texas since I was 18, and I've been doing this over 20 years,
00:42so it felt very full circle for me to go home to my honky-tonk roots, for sure.
00:46Speaking of kind of diving back into your past,
00:49what would you say to a younger version of yourself that was about to embark on a journey in music?
00:54I would just say slow down, take a breath, and enjoy the ride a little bit more.
01:00I know, you know, you've probably collaborated with everybody under the sun at this point.
01:03Is there anybody that you're still itching to get back into the studio with?
01:07Yeah, well, I've gotten to collaborate a little bit with Posty,
01:10so I'd like toâhe's been hanging around Nashville, making friends with all of us,
01:13so it's just great.
01:14And Chapel Roan, I'm a huge fan, so I want to meet her tonight.
01:17I'm excited to see her perform.
01:19One album that you've been listening to on repeat this year?
01:22Chapel Roan's and Lainey Wilson.
01:24She just had a record come out, and it's called Whirlwind, so I'm a huge Lainey fan.
