00:00Cynthia Erivo is calling out a fan-made movie poster for her upcoming film Wicked,
00:04saying that it's deeply hurtful.
00:08A TikTok user made a video altering the Wicked movie poster to make it more closely resemble
00:13the poster for the Broadway musical, where Elphaba's eyes are obscured by her hat.
00:18Erivo took to her Instagram story to address the photoshopped version of the official movie
00:22poster, which hides her eyes and much of her face. She wrote,
00:30that awful AI of us fighting, equal to people posing the question, is your green? None of this
00:35is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us. She continued, the original poster
00:41is an illustration. I am a real-life human being who chose to look right down the barrel of the
00:46camera to you, the viewer, because without words, we communicate with our eyes. Our poster is an
00:52homage, not an imitation. To edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me, and that is just
00:57deeply hurtful. The Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated actress portrays Elphaba, who becomes
01:02the Wicked Witch of the West, in the upcoming movie musical, while co-star Ariana Grande,
01:06the Grammy-winning and SAG Award-nominated actress, plays Glinda, who becomes the Good Witch.
