00:00Thank you, Chester.
00:30The CDC will have a commissioner's team, or the commissioner, what's the decision behind this?
00:36Okay, so historically kasi, parang cheer dance was treated as parang special event, right?
00:57Siyempre, established na natin that cheerleading has always been a sport, pero with the UAAP kasi, medyo unique siya na cheer and dance kasi, diba?
01:06So I think for this year, it's part of that ongoing development ng UAAP na magkaroon na ng commissioner.
01:17So ngayong taon, I think parang the board has decided na magkaroon na ng commissioner.
01:24And as the commissioner of the UAAP cheer dance competition, Commissioner, what are your main functions and your vision?
01:31So as commissioner ng cheer dance, really ang pinaka-responsibility ko is to make sure na smooth yung competition, syempre fair, to enforce yung mga rules natin, particularly yung sa safety, right?
02:12Are there any improvements for innovations this year in terms of event production and program flow?
02:18So in terms of events production, medyo kasi nahasana natin yan for the past couple of years.
02:25But I would say kasi parang in terms of yung dun sa performances mismo, doon yung may innovation, di ba?
02:54Commissioner, can you share us with us how the UAAP selects the panel of judges?
02:59And can you elaborate on the criteria of judging?
03:02Okay, so the UAAP siyempre employs a lot of yung parang organizers to actually do it, di ba?
03:08The way it's done is talagang selected na may credentials, syempre may experience.
03:16Kasi yung judging panel natin, may cheer judges specifically looking at cheer.
03:25So we make sure na yung may experience sila, may credentials.
03:28So for cheer, kailangan internationally certified yan.
03:32So yung international cheer union level certified judges yan.
04:06The next minute, maka-folk dance yan.
04:08Di ba? The next minute, street dance yan.
04:23Of course.
04:24Kasi dalawa yan, di ba? Dance and cheer.
04:43Commissioner, what are the usual challenges na madalas na na-encounter ng UAAP cheer dance?
04:48Sa preparations, guidelines, or even eligibility issues, if there's any.
04:54When it comes to eligibility kasi, parang standard naman yan across UAAP.
05:05So same with cheer dance, even if special event pa lang siya ngayon, treated lahat ng athletes all the same.
05:13So kung ano yung standard in terms of ng eligibility ng, say, someone in basketball or in volleyball or in badminton,
05:21ganon din yung standards of eligibility for.
05:23So it's like centralized parang gano'n.
05:25Exactly.
05:26Now, in terms of yung ating, dun sa program natin, in terms of yung sa challenges,
05:33it's really just about parang reminding.
05:36Kasi paminsan, yung mga teams natin, syempre, they're always pushing the boundaries, di ba,
05:41of what they can do, what skills they can do.
05:52So paminsan, we really have to make sure na talagang meron tayong level rules
06:01Kasi paminsan, palagi tayong na-excited, di ba, but in cheer, syempre, very key yun.
06:06So yan yung mga tinitingnan natin and of course, yung mga health, di ba.
06:13In fact, parang something as simple as nire-remind namin, yung athletes or yung coaches,
06:19okay, please remember to feed yung athletes nyo beforehand, mag-hydrate yung mga ganyan.
06:25Kasi kahit yung mga ganong simple things, nakaka-affect yun, syempre, yung athlete, di ba.
06:29At madalas nakakalimutan nilang kuminang sa sobrang excitement nila.
06:32Exactly, exactly.
06:33Commissioner, let us talk about the rules, guidelines, and technical requirements.
06:42eh may mga bagong dapat i-improve or dapat baguhin?
06:56Ang nag-iiba lang slightly is when nag-level up yung skills nung mga athletes natin.
07:05Kasi, syempre, you also don't want to inhibit yung kanilang creativity,
07:12pero, syempre, pagka, andyan na, pag na-excite siya,
07:16oh, may bago kaming itatry, gusto namin ito, ganyan.
07:19So, yun, medyo kailangan within the rules pa din.
07:24At saka, yung make sure, kasi again, first and foremost rule talaga natin is safety.
07:29So, even on the rules itself, kasama sa guidelines yun,
07:33the minute may mangyari, na syempre, nakon mo, dahil natin mangyari yun,
07:37the minute na may mangyari on the floor, talagang titigil natin yung buong competition.
07:42Safety first.
07:43Safety first, talagang address first yung medical, possible medical issue nung atleta natin.
07:50So, ito, importanteng question na naman ito.
07:52How does the organization, yeah, tutuloy lang natin tungkol sa safety,
07:58ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athlete.
08:00In terms of cheerleading, nag-update din ba tayo ng guidelines?
08:04And paano natin ina-update yung mga teams?
08:06Definitely. So, meron kasing, to begin with, each of us, the CDC comes,
08:13you know, the date comes closer, the competition comes closer,
08:16meron tayong rules briefing talaga for all of the coaches.
08:19So, we make sure na talagang pinapasadahan natin lahat ng rules
08:23to make sure everybody understands.
08:26If they have any questions, we are always open.
08:29Just to make sure na talagang there's no room for misinterpretation.
08:33Number two, nakapaloob talaga yung safety dun sa ating rules.
08:39Case in point, number one, we make sure na, yung venue pa lang ha,
08:44yung height nung venue, kailangan at least 20 feet yan.
08:48Kasi pag, di ba, kasi meron tayong toses eh, so pag may nagbato,
08:52o, o, siyempre, bawal tumama, di ba?
08:55And then things like, siyempre, definitely meron tayong emergency response team
08:59all the time.
09:00At saka, naka-situate yun talagang malapit sa floor.
09:04At saka, naka-brief sila to make sure na once something happens,
09:10alam nilang to come agad doon sa, and to aid the athlete if ever, no?
09:16So, yung mga yun talagang na yun.
09:17Yung mga considerations natin.
09:19Okay, last two questions na lang tayo, Commissioner Paula.
09:22Ito, importante titong, what distinguishes the UAAP cheer dance competition
09:26from other collegiate competitions?
09:30I think the distinguishing factor of it is that it's the premier league of universities
09:37in the Philippines, no?
09:40So, even if it's just eight schools, right, parang the standard is there.
09:46The prestige of the CDC of cheer dance really stemmed from the UAAP.
09:52And I think that's something that, and you know, the fan base goes beyond the eight schools eh.
09:58Diba? Parang kaya napupuno yung arena.
10:01And in fact, pati yung mga viewers, diba, whether it's online or on TV,
10:06talagang pinapanood talaga siya.
10:08And not only in the country, ha?
10:11Internationally as well.
10:12Naalala ko pagka nanonood ako niyan eh.
10:15Talaga namang iba't iba yung nanonood.
10:17May matanda, may bata.
10:18Pero, what is your message na lang, Commissioner,
10:20to all the student athletes, families, friends,
10:23and supporters of the UAAP cheer dance competition,
10:26and pwede mo rin silang i-invite mo.
10:27Okay.
10:29First of all, I wanted to thank everybody for the continued support on the cheer dance competition.
10:35This is something that, you know, we really look forward to every year organizing for you guys.
10:40And at least, well, for this year, you know, there's something new.
10:44There's always something different to look forward to.
10:46So, just to invite everyone, it's actually on November 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
10:55Looking forward to seeing you all there.
10:57And hope you all have fun watching.
10:59Maraming maraming salamat, Commissioner Paula De La Liana Nunag,
11:04our commissioner for the UAAP cheer dance competition.
