00:00:00things underway here come the cars right drool absolutely stunning entry and this is only a
00:00:07snapshot of it because Sam as Graham was saying we've lost over the weekend 911 GT1 Porsche
00:00:11Chrysler Viper every GT grid should have a Chrysler Viper on it because that was another
00:00:15great iconic car one of the Belmondo cars there's the Maserati MC12 the JMB car and oddly enough
00:00:21behind it is the DBR9 in the Vita phone colours that replaced the Maserati that wasn't allowed
00:00:26to enter that's the Xtraka racing car exactly two care racing Ferraris Riley and Scott the Keeler
00:00:33the 60 car there very interesting car unique car based on a Chevron looks a little Riley and Scott
00:00:40isn't Tota Supra behind there that's a GT2 car raced in France raced actually in the very first GT race
00:00:47at Bahrain in 2004 as well that's right that catch-all race that Richard Chamberlain's pretend
00:00:53935 did and things like that yes I've forgotten about that 45 car we had a quick shot of there
00:00:57that is uh Dario Franchitti in one of the DBR9s we'll wait and see whether or not I don't think
00:01:04Darren Turner's car is going to make it I think we were hearing um yes the more they looked after
00:01:09the prop shaft failure the more they found so Francois Perraudo's car has gone driver error
00:01:13probably yeah I would say I would say driver error for sure yes yes it broke is how Darren described it
00:01:20a bit like small boys say you know the football broke the window because you kicked it at the
00:01:25window Sean Lynn and the glorious glorious 2003 uh Bentley and uh Sean father of Alex Lynn who's of
00:01:34course in the main race later today in the United Autosports car Sean himself has raced here in the 24
00:01:40hours of Le Mans and one of a number of beautiful historic cars that he uh races and races well
00:01:47yeah there's quite a collection James Cottingham then fresh from a win at the British Grand Prix he
00:01:52won the second of the two pre-66 GT races he's another very versatile historic racer but actually
00:01:58this year has proved to be pretty handy in a modern day GT3 car he did a couple of races at the start
00:02:02of the season uh for ram racing there is the Sam Hancock Nicolaus Ditting Aston Martin now Sam
00:02:08started it yesterday we haven't been given a starting driver list but I would have just just received it
00:02:13which was the car you're looking for Sam Hancock and Nicolaus Ditting no it definitely is definitely
00:02:17not Sam I spoke to Sam yesterday so Nicholas Ditting it will be in that car all race all race okay so
00:02:22it's one race each yes um but that another example of one of the five GT cars the Nicolaus Ditting
00:02:29confirmed on the screen Martin Short just up the road ahead what about Royal Goethe and Stuart Hall's car
00:02:34looking at that one right now if you give me a moment it is Royal Goethe starts that car okay
00:02:38right yesterday interesting and Pierre Bruno and Mark Rostow share number 20 pill beam now they
00:02:43they had trouble on the outlap uh hit the barriers on the outlap and that car uh I think managed to
00:02:48struggle around it and pitted but uh they were the cause of the safety car at the start of the race
00:02:52yesterday right okay so that pill beam is out today uh was was in the stages of being prepared
00:02:59yesterday hopefully they didn't find uh any issues for that but uh Mark Rostow and Pierre Bruno
00:03:04Pierre Bruno of course the duo in period for that car yeah exactly I was going to say they are
00:03:08recreating that uh partly Le Mans partnership but also the um international sports racing series FIA
00:03:14sports car John Mangaletti series in which they shared cars together uh should be Pierre Bruno in the
00:03:19red car with if and when that one comes out okay there is Martin Short in the glorious looking and
00:03:26sounding Dallara absolutely amazing piece of kit what about 37 for the grid the Dodge Viper of
00:03:32Gerard Lopez with uh Eric Ellery it will it will and should be Eric Ellery aboard that car
00:03:37he's going to start is he absolutely and Eric uh you know his uh period in motorsport came up to
00:03:42and included those with reasonably lengthy memories the original um development drive of the Peugeot 908
00:03:50that's right at the Toyota you mentioned that is another shared car Mark Loi and Soyla Iari
00:03:55now which number is that one that would be um 61 you can imagine if Soyla Iari is behind the wheel
00:04:00it should be very very quick indeed so he was always a so one of the few uh is Soyla that should
00:04:06be in that car one of the very few drivers by the way that has competed in both the Le Mans 24 hours
00:04:11and the 24 hour moto here regular competitor on bikes uh Soyla back at well after very recent years
00:04:18so we know he is completely clinically insane there's Dario Franchitti um heading down through
00:04:24Wallsland corner and I think this is daring busier Dario's first race here isn't he's never it is
00:04:30raced here absolutely right second because he raced yesterday yes yes first time good morning here
00:04:36I'm sorry no you're right but you're correct yeah first first time race meeting and I think it's fair
00:04:40to say Dario reasonably excited about this absolutely well as a historian of the sport you know he's not
00:04:47somebody that just likes driving cars he likes the history of it and so this appeals to him he will be
00:04:51one of those fans in that part of the paddock looking at the cars as much as wanting to drive
00:04:55them there it is the 45 car the Porsche was the car really that drove the coach and horses through
00:05:02the GT1 regulations didn't it then along came Mercedes and you had probably two really fantastic
00:05:08years of international GT racing and then when the manufacturers pulled out it needed to be salvaged
00:05:13rather into what is a very impressive GT grid and we started the weekend with 18 uh GT2 Porsches
00:05:20uh listed there's also as you can see there in the background two or three of the 430
00:05:24Ferraris including the Virgo motorsport car uh for Michael and Sean McInerney and I think it is the
00:05:31dad and lad back in that car today I think there's a change there's the starting grid yes which is going
00:05:37to have James Cottingham starting on pole petition by dint of that best time in the qualifying session
00:05:41it scrolls through you pick out one or two others like Richard Mines the Hong Kong based Brit
00:05:45uh Max Gerardo another driver with a nice collection of cars these days Joe Macari
00:05:49in the Maserati MC12 Nick Padmore if he's the start driver will be another man to watch because
00:05:55Nick very very quick indeed in all manner of historics and indeed modern minis but uh
00:06:01uh Nick Padmore is one to watch and as I say if he is the start driver in that he should be making
00:06:06some good progress absolutely and uh they come in good order Mike Yule's name on the group as well
00:06:17and Mike another Le Mans stalwart back in the PK Sport Porsche and probably the earliest champion
00:06:22we've got here 1990 in C2 if I remember rightly he uh he won in group C2 and was back here
00:06:29into the 21st century aboard the PK Sport uh Porsches uh delighted to be back here in part by the way
00:06:38and he'd like me to mention this I'm sure this uh has been done in memory of one of the trio of drivers
00:06:43uh that's raced this car in period it was himself it was David Warnock previous British GT champion and
00:06:50uh good friend of mine and good friend to daily sports car as well David I hope you're listening and
00:06:55watching but in memory of the third man Stephen Day who sadly we lost to the evil that is cancer
00:07:01uh fairly recently so Mike is racing in memory of his old pal well we are set to go racing because
00:07:09the cars now getting themselves into that two by two formation there is perhaps inevitably a straggler
00:07:15and it's the Ferrari of Pascal Duhamel which is a long long way back but it will eventually
00:07:20get going um some of the drivers in this are going to be on their own just because of the relative
00:07:25pace of the cars but what we had yesterday was a very very fierce fight up at the top of the order
00:07:29and we're going to have it again here then as they come down towards the chicane James Cottingham
00:07:34and the cars of course in period color schemes will be the man to watch but Sean Lynn after
00:07:38yesterday's race we're getting ready to go as well there was uh Nikolaus Ditting having to pop out of
00:07:43the traffic to avoid contact that GT Aston might well drop back in a moment with the prototypes around him
00:07:48but up towards the timing line they go the clock starts now 45 minutes underway they blast away
00:07:54and a good getaway made by James Cottingham on the outside line Mike Newton goes to the inside line
00:07:58and through the middle there tries to go floor on Moulin they're side by side for the race lead but it
00:08:02is James Cottingham then who has the advantage going up towards the Dunlop Estes for the first time
00:08:06Moulin dives to the inside there Cottingham gets forced a little bit wide towards the curb
00:08:10but he hangs on to the advantage Moulin second third is Sean Lynn in the Bentley trying to keep out of trouble
00:08:15but the two Dalaras going toe-to-toe for the first couple of corners
00:08:18great stuff as well by Manu Collard up the inside there and up into fifth position in the 1997
00:08:23Porsche 911 GT1
00:08:25so Sean Lynn has split the Dalaras hasn't he's got the Bentley up into
00:08:30second place and Mike Newton coming under attack there as well from Eric Ellery in the Viper
00:08:35but Ollie pretty frantic start that yeah it is and certainly those prototypes off at the front
00:08:40there and Cottingham getting a good start and talking to Darren actually yesterday about how
00:08:46quick that Porsche is at the start and certainly the straight line speed it's a it's pretty mighty
00:08:51I've got the two Aston Martins looking to go past the Viper and it's just wonderful to see these cars
00:08:57out on track fantastic the first of those two a car exported in the day to Brazil still has that branding on
00:09:02from the Mias race that competed in back in the day but the battle here between Dario Franchitti
00:09:08and ahead in the 27 car who's in that 27 to start 37 no sorry 27 is Nicholas Ditting
00:09:16Nicholas Ditting yeah that's now for second place the battle is on again between Sean Lynn
00:09:19and the second of the Dalaras there are Florent Moulin James Cottingham getting away
00:09:24but Moulin gets up the inside line as they go down the Moulin Saint straight
00:09:27James Cottingham it is then in the advantage at the moment
00:09:31and just in the nick of time before they get to the yellow flag zone Moulin goes second at the expensive
00:09:35Sean Lynn Martin Short fourth but Sean Lynn backs off a lot more than the race leaders
00:09:40but now they get to the slow zone almost an overlap there as Martin Short has to slow right down
00:09:45and next in the queue Emmanuel Collard in the Porsche 911 GT1
00:09:49now look at this it's like an early BPR race in part isn't it with the early 911 GT2s in the thick of this
00:09:54fabulous stuff the big whale tail cars one of the that's a 360 GT2 car we also saw by the one there it is
00:10:02and that is the pill beam in trouble Mark Rustam I think that was that was Pierre Brunot wasn't it
00:10:08right so they're in the slow zone which is there because of the barrier damage from the earlier race
00:10:14but to allow the track workers time to get on with this and get the race on and the timetable still to
00:10:19stick to what it should be so on the opening lap we have this slow zone it's not been triggered by
00:10:23these cars it's by a previous race but it keeps everything moving so James Cottingham a good start
00:10:28and at the moment he is the man in the lead but Martin Short there in fourth place remember he's going for
00:10:34that podium so he's in the right place to attack isn't he now yes like a coiled but slightly rusting spring
00:10:41sorry Martin that could be the title of his book but what a legend he's been for British motorsport
00:10:48you know flying the flag at a time when there wasn't a great deal uh for the UK here at the 24 hours of Le Mans
00:10:55and you must have raced with him on the grid a number of times yeah actually I think that um
00:10:59the year that they finished or that they were running up in the top three or top four um I was
00:11:05on track here with the Corvette and and certainly they had you know a fantastic run going it was a
00:11:11mighty fast car and it's great to see it back on track and Martin's uh back underway outside of that
00:11:18slow zone now so back up to racing speed there you go trio there in the middle there David the Maserati
00:11:24with the Rothko collection the golf livery dbr9 and then the 550 the previous product from pro drive
00:11:30in a three-car battle in the middle of that pack so James Cottingham then lead the way and it's good
00:11:35that the car is on track thankfully undamaged after yesterday but the water temperature went up and up
00:11:40and up then it started to leak and off he went and uh James Cottingham as I say he's a very accomplished
00:11:45driver but so too is the man that's doing the chasing Florent Moulin who we've seen in GT3 cars for example
00:11:51Sean Lynn runs third and then Martin Short fourth now Mike Newton has dropped a long way back but of
00:11:55course that's a smaller class car if you like but he's very very busy trying to fend off the traffic
00:12:00behind him yeah certainly it looks like he's he had a little bit of a trouble a little bit of a problem
00:12:05he's he's he's in the mirrors quite a lot and um the car looks like it's hunting somewhat oh
00:12:10someone off in the gravel looks like that's Indianapolis that's the Transom Mustang the 28 car
00:12:14that's Anna Raid and that's going to be another slow zone isn't it to get that out of the way so on his first
00:12:19lap he's put it in the gravel through the Porsche curves comes Mike Newton here the aero of the
00:12:23prototype helps him so he gets away from the traffic in fact there are going to be bits of the circuit
00:12:28where next in the queue the Aston Martin of Nikolaus Ditting is going to be catching again yeah this is
00:12:32going to be quite challenging for the drivers I mean they came out of their collection area and did a
00:12:37relatively slow lap behind the pace car and then they've just gone racing and they're trying to get
00:12:41everything up to temperature everything switched on and um then they've had that slow zone uh and so
00:12:49it's sort of like you're you're trying to go you're trying to get everything working and and up to 10
00:12:54but it's it it's going to be a bit of a battle track temperature is going to be relatively low
00:12:58we're early in the morning here oh the Mustang's going again yeah they got the Mustang out of the
00:13:01gravel there another of the early Porsches that's Heiko Osman's 993 iteration 911 GT2 it's way way down
00:13:09the order in 38th place but you know drivers enjoying themselves it's a rare opportunity to
00:13:13race at Le Mans what the hell absolutely yeah crack on and James Cottingham is cracking on look at this
00:13:19because he's built the gap through the Dan Lopez's over them Florian Moulin in second place and now
00:13:24Sean Lynn is on the prowl here comes the Bentley great to see that contrast again isn't it between the
00:13:29closed and the open top prototypes of that time yeah certainly uh certainly is and it's um oh is it
00:13:34Sean looking to make a bit of a move no just he's just pulled out maybe just get a little bit of
00:13:38air into the into the rads but Martin Short is closing up isn't he so as they come now
00:13:43through the chicane through the first of the chicanes Martin Short getting a little bit closer
00:13:47and possibly also thinking go on get yourselves together because if things like this happen
00:13:51then you could suddenly find yourself gaining a place and Sean Lynn backed out of that not sure
00:13:55where the Dallara was going to end up yeah Moulin saved it well this i think is going to show us
00:14:00the Mustang for the gravel yeah it is it does uh we're back to full green flag racing as well that slow
00:14:05zone has been removed so there will be no backing up uh the Brino uh pill beam is back out and in front
00:14:11of the leaders here so this could just back this up a little bit leader just goes around the outside
00:14:15through the second chicane that will have given just a bit of an opportunity for closing up with the
00:14:21pack of two behind Martin Short is closing that gap again as the Transom Mustang makes his way back to the
00:14:26pits in front of our commentary position well Moulin has uh certainly managed to to get things cleaned up
00:14:32after his grassy moment that looked a bit of a wild ride and you usually don't keep it out of the
00:14:37barrier there once you get sucked onto the grass they're coming out of the S's you're usually really
00:14:41only going going in one spot and that's in the barrier yeah Martin Short is getting well wound up
00:14:46now isn't he Graham is absolutely right in saying he's a little bit closer now he's even closer so
00:14:50second third and fourth is the battle pack that's building and that's going to play into the hands of
00:14:54James Cottingham because he's getting away up front of course now a proper flying lap you're getting purple
00:15:00sectors as tyre temp and pressures are going up and the car's now a bit a bit more compliant
00:15:04good fight going on here as the Aston Martin the car of Romain Belletest and Geoffroy Peter
00:15:11we'll check in a moment who's at the wheel of it he's looking for a way through the Porsche
00:15:13traffic Mike Ewell's fending him off he is indeed the 77 car ahead with an ex-spanish GT
00:15:19entered 430 the 130 car ahead of those two is that the dbr9 it is dbr9 it was a dbrs9
00:15:27GT3 car with identical livery in this race as well
00:15:34Alan Rued's Mustang I think got together with Gunther Schindler's Porsche because the two of them are
00:15:38being investigated for the incident on the first lap the background behind that group the two yellow
00:15:43cars and the Aston Martin you can see the two pizza white lightning liveryed Porsche 911 GT3 RS's
00:15:49the great battle here between GT1's of very different eras Manu Collard versus Dario Franchitti then and Dario to
00:15:56the outside line is going to be the inside line for the next week through the Porsche curves and he
00:15:59goes through yes so the Aston Martin through on the inside line there up into fifth place Dario
00:16:04Franchitti he may not have raced here up until this weekend but you wouldn't think it no absolutely
00:16:09he's committed absolutely and he's uh it's great to see great to see these cars on the limit you look
00:16:15at the way Dario goes and you sort of think what kept you you know why why is it now when you've
00:16:19actually retired from racing that you finally come to Le Mans a decade between those two cars if you think
00:16:24about it which is quite amazing both seem very contemporary 1997 697 for the Porsche around a decade
00:16:33later for the Aston Martin there is still something about that Porsche I know that it divided people's
00:16:38opinion at the time because of what it did to GT1 but it is still a fantastic shape and Darren Turner
00:16:44was telling us yesterday evening about how committed Manu Collard was in yesterday's race arriving
00:16:48absolutely Harry flatters at the first corner yeah and then he uh he went off and went wide and used
00:16:54all the runoff area Mike Newton through the traffic here so number 25 Mike Newton's car is way down in
00:17:02its class at the moment it's fifth and is currently in eighth place overall Eric Ellery in the Viper has
00:17:07got on with the job quite nicely and gained ground hasn't he he has indeed and behind him you can see the
00:17:11the first of the Radian Scots there's two Roland Scott Marks three C's in this car in this class Michonne
00:17:17in the number 14 car tracking Mike Newton is uh again Sean Lynn takes another look at the back of
00:17:22Mulan's uh Dallara the glorious trio of V10 engine cars and the turbo eight aboard the Bentley does it
00:17:29that's a good move I thought that was going to be a bit deep into the corner but he managed to slow
00:17:32it down in time didn't he goes through on the inside that was a good brave move yeah it was he uh he committed
00:17:37and got it down there and got the thing stopped in time no lock brakes and nice and clean this is a
00:17:44great race it's the two of them is they're going to I think they're going to go back and forward
00:17:47throughout the rest of the 35 minutes and now look Sean Lynn goes defensive because Mulan gets up the
00:17:51inside of him Martin Short waiting for dramas to happen ahead of him but as they get to the second of
00:17:55the chicanes on the inside line Sean Lynn and back ahead of him is Mulan he breaks as late as he
00:17:59dares and he gets away with it yeah that looks desperately sort of deep not sure he was going to make it but
00:18:06he kept it all together he's not going to have a great run off though I think Sean's going to get
00:18:08him back here one of the good things about this Graham is these are not only proper cars but
00:18:13they're properly run oh yeah they are properly driven you know these aren't grotty old snotters going
00:18:17around these are proper cars with proper drivers and it shows doesn't it I mean preparation okay
00:18:22they're not on contemporary racing rubber but well matched as well these guys are pushing and pushing
00:18:27hard it's great to see it so James Cottingen still leads the way determined to avenge yesterday's
00:18:33defeat when he had that water leak so he's 1.8 seconds to the good Martin Short is almost there
00:18:39but he needs these two to hold one another up and at the moment although they're trading places
00:18:43they're not really holding each other up they're not looting much time no and uh
00:18:47Mulan is really committed on the brakes and you can see that the car's moving quite a lot
00:18:52uh in in the brake zone so yeah he's he's fighting he's really fighting a bit of a look there from Sean
00:18:59yes he shows the nose of the Bentley just tries to unsettle Florent Moulin a little bit Martin Short is
00:19:06there in fourth place fifth still is Dario Franchitti sixth is Manu Carlisle seventh Eric Ellery eighth
00:19:11is uh Mike Newton in ninth place at the moment is Xavier Michelin and then to round out the top ten is the
00:19:17Riley and Scott of Richard Cook so you're looking here at the fight that's on for second place Moulin
00:19:21versus Lynn now bearing in mind we've got the pit stops to factor into all of this as well so the
00:19:26order is going to shuffle during that mid part of the race it's good to see that um Martin Martin Short
00:19:32still pressing on he's got purple sector in that uh in that middle sector and he's staying in touch with
00:19:37that that top three so there's maybe a bit more to come from there he's maybe just uh biding his time and
00:19:43waiting to see what's going to happen yeah they had a clutch drama yesterday so he had to start from
00:19:46the pit lane it took them two minutes to bleed the clutch and he missed out on a win by 90 seconds so
00:19:51in Martin's mind he certainly has the pace to be up there also here you can see the Ferrari
00:19:56pressing on trying to gain ground that's the car of Eiko Rochmann they've come into
00:20:01Arnage right now but Nikolaus Dissing is keeping him at bay one of the two 2004 liveried uh
00:20:06cars the care racing cars commissioned by Frederick Dorp built around road cars at the time there's
00:20:14Mike Guell's just having a bit of a lock up through Dunlop chicane and that is the DPR S9 57 car isn't it
00:20:21yes it is yeah that's the GT3 spec car
00:20:26right there 37 Viper Eric Ellery has got back behind Mike Newton and he's now trying to keep
00:20:32Xavier Michelin at bay who takes the dirt and forces the Viper out wide crikey
00:20:40Eric Ellery can be pretty forceful when needs be but he had his hat nailed on there didn't he
00:20:45because Michelin was coming by make your own arrangements yep yeah it was pretty close that's
00:20:50the Raleigh and Scott raced in period with uh Jim Matthews i think owned that car back in the day
00:20:55they always made a great sound those cars didn't they but never had the best of fortunes at Le Mans
00:20:58but no again of a time right Mishra uh sorry Moulin still hanging on to his second place he's gap
00:21:05Sean Lynn a little and Martin Short's last lap was comparable but not quicker so he's there or
00:21:12thereabouts James Cottingham's advantage is 3.8 seconds at the moment they come down through the chicane well
00:21:19second third and fourth their last lap times were all within a tenth of a second of one another
00:21:23so well that's Paul Daniels Porsche i fear it getting in the way i mean okay holding its line
00:21:30trouble was the line was not the best for the bad one yeah yeah yeah yeah Paul's not an inexperienced
00:21:37driver but that's not the fastest of um Porsches uh first year of WC full season for Paul in uh GTM uh a
00:21:44staunch supporter of contemporary racing and historic racing but good to see him out there but that car
00:21:49does look to be struggling and what that has done of course he's now bunched them up again so
00:21:53find a back marker at exactly the wrong part of the lap it's gone against Moulin to a degree but
00:21:57it certainly helped Martin Short he's a lot closer now it's like he's just slowly reeling them in he's
00:22:01just biding his time he's just waiting for everything really to come into the zone maybe the pressures
00:22:05are just about getting there now and he's uh he's able to really press on so he's done another
00:22:11personal best in that first sector so you know i think that everything's just falling into place
00:22:17hopefully for Martin he came out of kit car racing in the uk had a spell in formula first and then
00:22:22went into metro turbos rover 216s rover turbos tbr tuscans the british gt with the tbr and the next
00:22:30step after that was to try Le Mans and you know he's one of the great amateur privateers ran his own
00:22:36team got onto the grid it was a great fairy tale story absolutely now it's i think we can call it
00:22:40glorious retirement and uh pops out does have the odd race in this Dallara beautiful car it's
00:22:46pride and joy as well as his family it's the norma there the uh lmp 900 norma goes by
00:22:54that's the key there isn't it yes it is yes but behind that the yellow lola the 2005
00:23:00Le Mans series winning uh class winning car berridge
00:23:06oh the elf rising the porsches that goes through the yukos colors you see there in that little battle
00:23:10pack the 911s coming on to also straight once more with the 2004 cars from here after them on 24 hours
00:23:17back in the day so then the earlier late 90s gt2 spec porsches it's heiko osman in the pit lane and
00:23:24those 911 gt2s really were the cornerstone of the the bpr global gt series jĂŒrgen bath knew exactly what
00:23:30was required and got porter to build a car flooded the privateer market and a series was born and look
00:23:37what's happened to gt racing and actually uh it was in those cars that one of the the stalwarts of the
00:23:42le mans 24 hours of the aco platform was born with proton competition uh back in the very late 90s
00:23:48and i think they've still got a couple of their cars from back in the day
00:23:50so flora moulin in the playstation colors on the delara comes through the bentley's in yeah in for
00:23:58its stop so shawn lynn pits mike newton's coming under attack here as well because
00:24:03xavier micheron who has been pretty ruthless as we've seen already is closing that gap down to the mg lola
00:24:09mike though is catching manu collard here as well in comes the bentley
00:24:13uh i had one of those two very evocative pizza white lightning cars that ollie you'll be very
00:24:21familiar with from your time racing in united states as well as here at le mans yep absolutely they were
00:24:27a fantastic team and uh great car iconic livery and it's uh always run well i think both those cars
00:24:35raced in period by johnny molan yep yeah and is mike newton he is catching uh manu collard i think
00:24:41had a bit of a struggle in traffic i wonder if that porsche was beginning to get a little bit off
00:24:45song here mike's taking micheron with him as well so those three constantine aren't they yeah yeah
00:24:51mike on the straights by the way is telling me well over 310 kilometers an hour still available from
00:24:56that uh little lola mg yeah the porsche doesn't look that settled um you know collard car it just looks
00:25:04it does not taking the curbs very well and uh it's got a lot of uh body movement on the brakes and uh
00:25:12i think it does look a bit of a handful so manu collard's vast experience being put to good use
00:25:19here but for the moment mike newton not quite close enough to have a go replay here of is that the
00:25:24ditting aston getting itself in strife being forced out wide and yes losing the place so nicholas ditting
00:25:31drops back behind dominic rochman and now we've got martin short up the escape road so shorty has had a
00:25:36drama coming down the mulsanne got a little bit close to moulin and had to go to the escape road
00:25:42to avoid contact there we'll call that his joker lap but that's right okay okay
00:25:48martin will tell you that never happened so it's a good job there's evidence of that
00:25:53there's the slow ferrari back out again of pascal durhamel which has got a problem that early 360 which
00:25:59again was going back to ngt days wasn't it the 360. yes it was yep here comes the keeler down the
00:26:06pit lane a unique car
00:26:07dbr9 follows 550 two eras of pro-drive developed gt1 gts cars that's the 66 car that was the car raced in
00:26:26period 2004 and one by all a menu peter cox thomas enga the other car that is here is the car we've
00:26:33raced here by darren turner and uh colin mccray 105 is edwin uh stuckey's viper back into the pits as
00:26:42you see has also come pierre bruno the bentley is back on track so sean then has served his mandatory
00:26:47pit stop everybody has to serve a stop in this race uh so far james cottingham fastest lap and this
00:26:52great fight carries on nicholas ditting is determined to get the aston back ahead isn't
00:26:56he yeah he is and uh the pro drive boys i'm sure that they're sitting there watching this loving it
00:27:02and uh maybe thinking well are these two guys going to have a bit of contact and it's uh certainly back
00:27:07and forth yeah john growl be enjoying this i'm sure sitting in the aston martin racing pits on two
00:27:13grounds he loves a good race and there might will be parts uh to be sold how cynical of you this is what
00:27:19the pit lane looks like at the moment more and more of the stop cycling through including there the
00:27:23the gulf liveried aston martin so roll goethe has done his work and stuart hall takes it over this
00:27:28looks like it might be a car with a problem does it not because the riding and scott of jean-marie
00:27:34muller as they engine cover off in comes moulin then so the second place car bails for the pit lane
00:27:40so cottingham versus short now martin short promoted for the moment up into second place
00:27:45cottingham's actually really getting away he's pressing on every lap it's uh he's a second or so or
00:27:51couple of seconds quicker the second and third unless we forget it was it was the dollar wasn't
00:27:56it where martin led a lap or two at le mans yes indeed another great shot from overhead as the
00:28:06chrysler entered carton period comes along slips into pit lane behind the delayed bill beam
00:28:15quick drink
00:28:23time to talk to the team and have a bit of a debrief
00:28:27with that moulin dollar that you've just seen come into the pit lane is from 2001 and you don't
00:28:31think it's that it's that long ago it just doesn't feel and look at the shape it doesn't feel it's that
00:28:35old no no it doesn't look like a 20 year old race car the gt battle is still on i think we're going to be
00:28:42saying this a lot for 24 hours but just just to get us in the mood manu collard has pitted but
00:28:46rochman versus ditting they're still hard at it they ask martin then comes through nicolaus ditting
00:28:51is a much improved driver isn't he's got a lot quicker over the years spot on yeah and as they all
00:28:57do with practice uh fire spitting super it so hill ayari isn't it who started in that car
00:29:03and there is flora moulin ready to go mike newton is in as well as is the earlier ryan scott's just
00:29:12saw behind i think it's one of the taylor cars one of the number of cars looked after by scotsport
00:29:18aaron scott's efforts aaron stepping away from pro driving this year to concentrate on
00:29:25pretty much this area of racing plus some historic formula one i know he's involved in
00:29:29preparing cars for others as well including the ascot collection they've got two or three cars in
00:29:34this race through the traffic comes the race leader up the curve james cottingham pressing on uh nicolaus
00:29:40ditting is one of a number of drivers under investigation for a possible slow zone infringement
00:29:45so having been talking about how well he's been doing there's a democritian investigation there 13
00:29:50seconds the margin as you see between james cottingham in the lead and martin short in second place
00:29:55but really we need to see where martin is going to be relative to the traffic once all the pit stops
00:30:00have cycled through but james cottingham is driving faultlessly at the moment slow zone coming uh slow
00:30:04zone four makes a slow at marshall's post 11 slow at marshall post 12 and that will be coming now
00:30:13and that's going to hurt those that are just coming out of the pits because james cottingham will have
00:30:16cleared that area yeah so that's the first chicane isn't it yeah and mouls and someone's had some dramas
00:30:22yeah sure we'll see what's going on there sooner rather than later it's bodywork
00:30:30it's a big chunk of bodywork that that shouldn't really be falling off should it
00:30:33no they're not designed to do that no they don't get lied to us
00:30:38it's not in the haynes manual for the car is it collard is in the pits there comes the
00:30:42frasica porsche 2004 car the 86 car that was an incredibly successful team wasn't it in running
00:30:49porsches in ngt so there's martin short in that second place now he's lost out a little bit in
00:30:54the first sector alone he's seven tenths down but he's gained a couple of tenths back in the second
00:30:58sector but martin still hunting that podium it would be a wonderful way to end the the run of
00:31:04the car in his hands at le mans if it were to be a podium otherwise martin will have to keep coming back
00:31:09and back and back and missy short probably won't agree with that no get it done martin yes the 88 car
00:31:15one of the pair of these cars that were campaigned in period by roll center racing including one year
00:31:20with a nissan engine in the back wasn't that successful and uh very glad uh for for my taste
00:31:27that the the uh the v10 judd is back in that car it is a glorious sounding machine it is yeah martin took
00:31:33it to a brdc members track day two or three years ago and so it was largely road cars or you know
00:31:38limited noise race cars and martin said um i've brought another car with me but do you mind if
00:31:43i give it a run round at lunch time just on my own and the club said no that's absolutely fine and
00:31:48suddenly local residents thought what on earth because this this judd engine they thought it was
00:31:53going pre-weekend again with a crowded mind remind me of the all-comers race is at the pomeroy at the
00:31:58end of the year and he's i think he's raced in that you are right he has raced it at the walter
00:32:03hose trophy not the pom but um yeah that's that's in february and it's a different sort of event but
00:32:08he has raced it yes in in the uh brdc members races i think he also raced his lmp2 uh radical
00:32:14in the day yes he did that one yes there is martin short on pit lane
00:32:21and uh the gentleman with the stopwatch standing behind is i think that's marcus short
00:32:28or was it morgan short his son is by the way named after a morgan and demarcos sports cars yes
00:32:38dario's dario's just on pit lane now yep so the rally 3c one of two of these cars in the entry
00:32:45the leader is sorry because the leader is in as well isn't he james gottingham's in
00:32:49impressive stuff from james gottingham the first 25 minutes of that race uh pulled out a 13 second gap
00:32:55but james is just very very good i mean it doesn't matter whether you throw him into an e-type
00:32:59around goodwood or this year a gt3 mercedes or something like this yeah he delivers and he
00:33:05rarely makes mistakes actually yeah he's he is uh he's very versatile he's very quick yeah and he's
00:33:10he's adapting to all kinds of different um different cars and bringing those different skills and applying
00:33:18them yeah really well this dollar for example he's taken up the hill at goodwood he ran it at speed
00:33:23week last year on the right the the um the sort of sprint uh shootout that they ran on the race
00:33:28circuit so he uses it as much as he can that's great great to see making way through traffic there
00:33:33sean lynn and has uh got a substantial advantage now of milan in the chasing now dario with a total
00:33:40between the two of them that's toyota so drivers at the end of their stint reflecting on what's been
00:33:51going on that the toyota is not the most common of cars was it no i think this is the only one
00:33:55certainly certainly in europe of this kind of uh mark that uh raced in period
00:34:01raced for a long time in ffsa gt there is the other of the raleigh three c's
00:34:10in a sense that they almost echoed oh you see the ferrari with some damage to the bottom there
00:34:17the pin has broken it's peeling off but the riley and scott in a way was a bit can amish wasn't it
00:34:22you know it was a big grunty engine in the back a fairly simple shape and it just had lots and lots
00:34:26of horsepower it did indeed and it came along to the point where technology in lmp racing was just
00:34:31marching on it sort of rather missed its time yes the riley mark iii we've got one of those cars
00:34:37blasting paths through the chicane at the moment uh hugely successful in the united states and a
00:34:43large number of those cars produced by bob and bill riley yes when they when they try to develop this
00:34:51car it seemed like it was a bit of a step too far for them and they never quite sort of gelled together
00:34:57and and also the development in open top prototypes is just really going through the roof this car the
00:35:03place this car's got in history you see the narrow rear wing got this car this car sort of maserati
00:35:10seeing what they could get away with in regulatory terms raced very successfully with multiple
00:35:15championship wins and big race wins in figt it was never permitted to race here because it didn't quite
00:35:21meet the fi the gt1 regulations had to be you'll know a lot more about this than i do you've
00:35:27commented on these cars in period david a lot i thought they were fantastic cars and in a way
00:35:33the mc12 was what gave us the balance of performance it did because absolutely the fia and the gt
00:35:39commission wanted maserati in the sport but said if that's the car you're going to do what porsche and
00:35:44mercedes did a decade or so before so we need to do something to make the car competitive and others
00:35:50competitive with you and that's why as you say the the second generation of the car had that smaller
00:35:54rear wing just to curb the performance of it and you know and bop it's you're precisely right it was
00:36:01this car for which that process was developed so if you like what you see in gt racing now with the
00:36:07closeness you've got that car to thank if you don't you've got that car to blame yeah right but certainly
00:36:14the uh visaphone racing squad going off at fia gt and then gt1 world championship i mean michael
00:36:19bartles ran those cars very very well you had jmb you had the uh sarah free play team cars you
00:36:26know they were they were good good cars in different teams hands 360 comes in for attention
00:36:30to that bonnet clip as martin short making his way through with the black riley 3c now right behind
00:36:38him so that's xavier micheron who's jumped ahead of mike newton and has caught up to martin short so
00:36:43that's for position it is and micheron is getting faster and faster and faster as this race goes on
00:36:47he's doing a very good job replay here of in fact martin short going back ahead of him so i think
00:36:53micheron had jumped ahead on the pit stop but martin puts him in his place as it were and says
00:36:57i've raced this car in the 24 hours don't you know and i'll get my place back this is the
00:37:01moustache spent a little bit time with the gravel earlier and uh yep the one of the trouble trouble
00:37:08for the number one car that's emmanuel brigand and he's in the gravel and that's going to be
00:37:12a yellow and that's at the chicane at the end of the lap isn't it yes it is it's right opposite us
00:37:16in fact at the end of the lap so in the gravel oh yes is the porsche yeah and see what he's done
00:37:21wrong there wasn't he that's that's a bit like the inception ferrari's incident of the other night
00:37:25in the 24 hours we've got three drive-throughs by the way for cars 18 17 77 77 is mike yules
00:37:32oh yeah 18 looking to find that is that's right yeah the number one car just looked like it got
00:37:43through that first part of the ford chicane just that little bit too hot and it just didn't slow
00:37:47it up enough so then when he went to turn into the final chicane and take that first left it was offline
00:37:53too much speed and then ran wide over the apex curve of the right and then into the gravel so
00:37:59a bit of a driver error there it looks like slow zone is coming and predictably so as they fire up
00:38:06the recovery vehicle it's going to need help to get back out the number one porsche martin short is
00:38:11under investigation for over speeding in the pit lane so shorty might have a bit of a finger wagging
00:38:16coming his way sean lynn was on a demon lap here in the bentley because he did an absolute best in the
00:38:21first sector a personal best in the second but he's been hit by a slower car and also a slow zone a
00:38:27yellow flag at the end of the lap so he goes through but now sean lynn still chasing after
00:38:33james cottingham who has just come back into the race after his pit stop shows how good that lap was
00:38:37going to be it's still a fastest lap for sean on the race of 346 445 the gap though now up to 42 seconds
00:38:45and that's not because of the pit stop so somewhere cottingham has picked up something like 30 seconds on that
00:38:52mentally yes and martin's lost a significant chunk of time in the pit stop or in and around
00:39:00that pit stop as well because he was he was only a couple of seconds back from moulin and lynn before
00:39:06the stop and he's going to drop back further because he's got a drive through now as martin short so the
00:39:10podium dream is over isn't it yeah it's an extra minute in the pits now is martin in that bracket david to
00:39:16get the pit stop penalty for driving experience it might be the way he was talking to me yesterday
00:39:24he didn't suggest that was the case dario franchiti for instance was uh 20 seconds quicker than martin
00:39:29in the pit so that indicates something more i think he's had a bit of a problem in the pit lane yeah
00:39:3713 minutes where almost a third of this race still to go it's been very entertaining
00:39:41and the number one car by the way uh was uh it was stopped in the four duquesne about to get back
00:39:46underway and he just pulls right out in front of the corvette uh you can't do that oh absolutely not
00:39:52protest yes there's very few of those cars left raceable now those corvettes driving standards in
00:39:58the in the day were absolutely terrible there's very nearly one last yes that porsche that was the
00:40:04porsche's fault um that was all happening out of our window that uh ollie called a glimpse of james
00:40:08cottingham then here in in splendid isolation isn't he's out on his own and should say by the way
00:40:14those the two corvettes you may have spotted out there uh callaway i think built gt3 yeah the gt3
00:40:19cars yeah they're not they're not the pratt miller or corvette racing built cars um so uh yeah yet to
00:40:25see one of those here in one of the one of the legends races hopefully that'll uh that'll happen next
00:40:31year plenty of them in private hands we've actually had them racing in contemporary racing very recently
00:40:37including gt1 cars uh balanced back for the 20 000 to buy uh fairly recently this is what i was
00:40:43talking about this gets going one two three where's the corvette there you go oh showered with gravel
00:40:51yeah yeah it's a feature i don't think he got the memo of oh oh dear me then he has another off
00:40:57because he's brought so much gravel with him he can't slow the car down exciting couple of corners
00:41:02there's martin short through the second chicane i think driver of the number one car needs to take
00:41:09a breath yeah and the other driver that's lost out on all of this and i think possibly he did serve
00:41:14longer in the pits was flora moulin because given his experience i think he might have copped for a
00:41:19longer pit stop but moulin has dropped to third and he's 14 what eight seconds now behind james
00:41:24cottingham and he was nowhere near that when we got the uh pit window open so moulin is another one
00:41:28that's lost out during that pit window but james cottingham is looking good thus far uh yeah just
00:41:33thinking back you you said it earlier prior to the pit stops uh james cottingham did well of the
00:41:37previous uh slow zone didn't he because he cleared that and others were hitting it that's true but he
00:41:42took his pit stop under full green the driver of number one porsche has to report to the stewards
00:41:47after the race i think we can work out what that's for yeah i think there might be a number of things
00:41:52that they're going to talk to him about not just one yes just putting together the to-do list right
00:41:57now yes and gently moving the biscuits away from the coffee so it will be a meeting without biscuits
00:42:04yes indeed so uh yeah so the uh slow zone has worked in james cottingham's favor in respect of
00:42:09of his pace but that certainly helped a little bit this battle is still between manu collard
00:42:14in the porsche and we've got quite a battle with uh frank kitty uh catching makari so the the 46 car
00:42:24of makari and uh the 45 car of frank kitty are getting closer together and i think that's going
00:42:30to end up in a nice little battle we've actually got two battles in gt1 albeit with three different
00:42:36classes involved here you're right the joe makari and uh and uh dario frank kitty battle then we've got
00:42:41the manu collard battle with nicholas ditting which is 15 seconds further back but their nose to tail
00:42:47as well albeit manu in the gt1a class and the uh aston martin dbr 9 number 27 list as an invitational
00:42:54entry this is the roth go-kart that's now stuart hall at the wheel isn't it and there you've got the
00:43:01vitaphone slash stracker racing car behind raced here in period in those colors yeah peter hardman
00:43:08nit laventis two of the drivers weren't they with um alessandro negrao and the gt2 porsche battle
00:43:19nothing b about these bwps boring white porsche being something was often
00:43:25chucked into the mix but uh they're in a fine battle these are cars from different eras as well
00:43:29all towing one another along and each other a bit of a slipstream down into the uh into the second
00:43:38chicane drive through penalty for andrew lawley's car the number 31 that's one of the two pizza white
00:43:44lightning cars that will be joining us back in pit lane brought a quiet run through to think about what
00:43:50he's done this takes you back doesn't it porsche's all fighting amongst themselves
00:43:55pit stops for cars 18 and 13 are under investigation as well some rather creative lines coming through
00:44:00that second chicane guys trying to get a run and some guys running a little bit wide got in a little
00:44:05bit too hot and uh yeah it's um but they're all that brilliant fun great racing it's great to see
00:44:14that it is absolutely and it's good that the cars are being used and yeah obviously they have a value
00:44:18but it's good that they are being used as they should be and not just sitting in workshops and
00:44:22going up in value sean lynn is behind all of this and of course he's going to get delayed if he's not
00:44:26careful trying to work his way through that battle pack isn't he bratsy epsilon uh curaj c65 there
00:44:32and golem flags on the end plates what happened to him run bratsy yeah don't know because he made a big
00:44:39splash for a short period of time and then went away didn't he ran on a factory aster martin lola that's
00:44:44right yeah yeah yeah that's the ex-gemw motorsport 92 car there one of the earlier editions of the
00:44:52vantage gt2 not that successful for what's been a very successful team with ferraris that's the
00:44:59ginger-headed stepchild of the team i think is fair to say
00:45:02um emmanuel brigon that we saw in the gravel and then getting in the way and going off and being
00:45:08told to go see the stewards has also got a stop and go penalty yes it is piling up for him yeah
00:45:15how was you laman i got to meet lots of people yes yes edward of retas is nice yes standing on the
00:45:23naughty step for quite some time isn't he i didn't realize you could put so many so many tvs in a
00:45:27single room oh you've been to race control then yes right stuart hall now pressing on in the uh
00:45:33rothgo aston martin that puts him ahead of 66 the dominic roshman ferrari and this is how he did it
00:45:40nice move up the inside there yeah absolutely he was and the rothgo collection for those that don't
00:45:46know uh the well goeta collection of golf liveried cars and another one added to that uh this weekend
00:45:52with the family goeta out in the fun cup five-hour race yesterday great fun 89 cars on the entry for
00:45:59that uh dario franchiti's got past joe macari um somewhere out there on track he was he is
00:46:05significantly quicker than him he's some four seconds a lap quicker than joe uh in in that
00:46:10maserati but um so he's he's now taking the lead back in that gt1 battle two minute stop uh time
00:46:17penalties are going to be added for pit stop infringement to the 18 and 30 martin short has
00:46:21rolled through pit lanes we must have been given drive through penalty but it's just put in the fastest
00:46:25middle sector for the race that would be the famous shorts how can we put this spirit showing
00:46:31itself indeed indeed uh yes he did cop that drive through you rightly say and having done so he's
00:46:37back on track but james cottingham with six minutes to go now just needs to keep out of trouble doesn't
00:46:43he because he's under no pressure and sean lynn doing absolute bests in the sectors mike newton is a
00:46:49little bit lonely as well but again still going strongly not for long he's got martin short right behind
00:46:53him if not if shorty might would have passed him by now let's have a quick look at if we get a
00:46:57longer shot here we should see there he is this is a battle this is a battle for fifth overall
00:47:03between two british stalwarts of sports car racing in the early part of this century
00:47:09and both with not a little success martin short the world center team multiple podium finishes in the
00:47:15le mans series mike newton two class wins here at le mans and multiple class wins in international
00:47:23sports car racing in the lolas later the hpd that he campaigned this car this number 25 car
00:47:31raced in period by mike and by tommy urdos martin looking for a way by but the little lola is very
00:47:38quick and a straight line indeed part of the reasonably short-lived lmp 675 formula designed
00:47:45to draw in perhaps smaller manufacturers with lighter cars a little less power
00:47:52but uh martin i think he's gonna have the grunt to get this done
00:47:56although mike's not making life easy for him it's a proper battle for position they've also got to get
00:48:00through the traffic so mike he's going to fight as much as he can but yes in terms of
00:48:05just the speed of the car the power of the car martin short's car will go through ultimately mike
00:48:10gives him the room but then thinks i need to take the apex sooner or later so
00:48:14stays ahead great stuff they're enjoying this i'm sure
00:48:18that's the mm arena on to the mulsanne strait
00:48:24gives you an idea of just how much more development has been done around le mans within the confines of
00:48:30the circuit all the buildings through the traffic down the mulsanne strait mike newton staying
00:48:34ahead so martin short is having to work hard for this he might do another of these demon outbreaks
00:48:38into the chicane mike newton again there's room there but martin doesn't commit to it the big
00:48:42strength of that lola is straight line speed very very fast at a straight line
00:48:47give you an idea uh total speed for those cars uh the uh 304.7 kilometers an hour for mike newton 302
00:48:55for martin short 315 by the way for milan's dollar a little further up the road now we can see whether or
00:49:02get in the toe and is there space to do this great stuff gets it done commits to the inside line
00:49:11goes through and that puts martin short then now back up into fifth place but being mightily frustrated
00:49:18about that drive-through penalty for sure and there's going to be one more lap at the end of
00:49:22this i reckon sean lynn is on for the fastest lap of the race and he's absolutely hacking away at that
00:49:27gap 40 old seconds has become 33 he's not going to catch in time but he's certainly having a good go
00:49:32346.9 that's something like 10 seconds off a good lap time period for those cars
00:49:38that's not bad going is it it's very strong very strong performance i think cottingham's just
00:49:43really coasting to the coasting to the finish here yeah but let's see what lynn does over the line
00:49:51this last lap through 343.230 that's a very good effort from sean lynn and a yellow flag being waved as
00:49:59well so there's been a drama up the road somewhere as uh there going through is xavier micheron who's
00:50:05hanging on to that fourth place does make a great noise that car doesn't it it's fabulous it's uh
00:50:14dario frank kitty by the way seventh overall now and leading his class so he's going to be on the
00:50:19podium as a class winner at this right he's gone by the number four riley and scott as well
00:50:24joe mccari in the maserati and is this where there's been a drama big black lines being left by
00:50:30joe mccari he's getting himself in there a little bit too too quick so this is the race leader soon
00:50:37to become race winner james cottingham making up for yesterday's disappointment but he proved his
00:50:43pace yesterday but a combination of a quick driver bit of help from a slow zone and a yellow flag just at
00:50:48the wrong time for the opposition but uh not suggesting for a moment that james has lucked into
00:50:53this far from it because this has been a very impressive drive absolutely he has uh fully executed
00:50:59and done everything correctly not made a mistake he did get a little bit lucky with his pit stop
00:51:04and this uh slow zone that was out um at which certainly held up the likes of lynn and and moulin
00:51:10and short um but you know he is he has been the fastest car really nearly all of the race and sean
00:51:16lynn has done the fastest lap in this relentless pursuit yesterday's winner and he's driving that car as it
00:51:22should be driven wonderful to see it is isn't it this has been a massively popular uh addition it's
00:51:29going to be said to the support uh i think that this is going to turn heads with race organized trouble
00:51:33by the way for the toyota which has got is the rear deck has come awry and there's come that car
00:51:40coming down uh pit lane looking slightly disassembled slippery surface flags i think there's debris on the
00:51:46road rather than anything else for that uh yellow flag that we'd seen a little while ago yeah i mean the
00:51:51the group c race was always a head turner when those cars came here but that movement has
00:51:55sort of lost entries of late and people are looking for the next new category and this is it yes here
00:52:01you've got that choice of whether you want to go full-blown prototype or a gt car yeah which are a bit
00:52:06easier to run and drive there's lots of options and you know there's lots of cars out there and lots of
00:52:11people who want to just get these cars out and run them and i mean it's amazing to be able to come
00:52:16here to le mans run on track the morning of the big race and uh it's you know get some experience
00:52:24out there and run for 45 minutes and two races over a weekend of course and you can have a co-driver
00:52:31you can you know change in the pits or you can do a race each however you want to do it uh split the
00:52:36costs accordingly but james cottingham here then accelerating up towards the porsche curves he has
00:52:42relaxed his pace you can understand why because he wants to take a race win here and uh james
00:52:48whose family big into the preparation of ferraris as we've been saying is a very accomplished driver
00:52:53here is more evidence of it he's heading up towards the chequered flag the gap is coming down and down
00:52:5841 seconds he's now down to 14 so sean lynn ain't going to be far away at the end no he's not but as i
00:53:03say james driving within himself he's got the corvette to negotiate in a moment then the run down towards
00:53:08the ford chicane make sure he's got plenty of room on the inside line but james cottingham then heads
00:53:13towards the end of the second endurance racing legends race of the weekend it has been an absolutely
00:53:18fantastic performance as he accelerates then from the final right-handed element onto the pit straight
00:53:24up towards the timing line checkered flag awaits and james cottingham in the dalara wins race two for
00:53:29the endurance racing legends and sean lynn in the bentley is going to be much much closer at flag 40 comes
00:53:37across the line and the gap graham goodwin between the pair of um is 11.6 said 9.4 seconds sean was
00:53:44pushing there and uh well yeah jeremy was certainly cruising uh i wonder if he did have a little bit of
00:53:51a problem at right at the end of that that uh he didn't need to push sean certainly i think was
00:53:55looking for any opportunity that might present that was a great race i thoroughly enjoyed that and
00:54:00florian moulin here is set for third and he is going very slowly he might not get third he's yeah he's
00:54:06in trouble he's limping to the line he's in trouble and it's going to be xavier micheron who if he's
00:54:11close enough might mug him at the end moulin's just got enough pace to get it home so he will hang on
00:54:16to third place but it's a troubled third yeah if james cottingham did have a problem it is tempting to
00:54:21suggest this is your fight for fourth now micheron versus short it might have been rising water
00:54:25temperatures again like yesterday and he was trying to make sure that he didn't stress it but now
00:54:29for position micheron versus martin short running out of corners though shorty yeah what he doesn't
00:54:35want to do is what was done to him by sebastian bordet in period in this car rough and somewhere around
00:54:40here wasn't it but uh shorty walking away with a rather damaged ankle after a big shunt not of his own
00:54:49making can he do it in the final turn they've got traffic ahead here fourth place could change change
00:54:54hands here uh into or out of the four chicane shorty's looking looking for it to the inside he
00:55:00might get this done go on martin send it he does he does the inside he goes through then so last corners
00:55:06of the last lap martin short goes through up into fourth place he's going to be denied the podium again
00:55:11though but a typical martin short drive attack attack attack all the way to the end i love that and
00:55:16that will at least give him the the consolation prize he's not going to get a trophy he will have a
00:55:21story for the sunday dinner table oh yes and it'll be a long one it will it'll be more than 45 minutes
00:55:26it will certainly will yeah yeah all the adversity that martin had to overcome you know for fourth
00:55:31place yeah mike newton not so very far back he takes the flag to finish a fine sixth and we're waiting
00:55:38for the gt race winner and that will be dario franchiti i hope that's not martin short waving goodbye to
00:55:45le mans but i hope i hope not to yeah it's what a glorious time we've had with the storylines from
00:55:51martin down through the years and there was a documentary that was made about him wasn't there
00:55:54you can see it showing the travails of a small team uh trying to get there so dario franchiti he's
00:56:00going to be a class winner in the aston martin and he has taken to this like a duck to water hasn't
00:56:05he yeah he has he's uh he's driven brilliantly and he's uh looks like he's been been enjoying it
00:56:11good to see a rookie doing well in his first appearance
00:56:16that's what you can do in retirement isn't it go go win at le mans so he sorts out the traffic
00:56:20because he comes up towards the line gets past uh colin payton's ferrari colin a regular 1960s
00:56:25porsche racer but also got modern ferraris as you see so dario franchiti wins the gt uh 1b class
00:56:32manu collard is going to win gt 1a and joe macari will be the runner-up in the willy uh no he won't
00:56:39stuart hall yes no joe macari fends him off on the last lap so joe macari for second in class
00:56:44and stuart hall in royal goethe's aston for third in gt 1b cracking stuff absolutely and for me
00:56:53with the formula proven there will be more and more people looking to dust off some of the machinery
00:56:58that might be there as garage queens at the moment so that's the damage uh to the rear of the toyota
00:57:02uh what happened here i think it just blew off it did that's a feature yes and of all the places
00:57:10to happen with all the toyota kazoo branding uh around it yes it's the automatic ventilation
00:57:17system and period on those was somewhat agricultural there you go but it's good to have it on the grid
00:57:22again showing the variety that was around within this era glorious stuff there martin short i think
00:57:27you'll enjoy the last part of that lap highly entertaining stuff gentlemen as they peel off
00:57:33to the bugatti circuit where they've got their paddock facilities here and uh the end of two
00:57:40very entertaining endurance racing legends efforts big round of applause for the cars the drivers as
00:57:45they come into the pit lane manu kala they're being given a great reception and uh the fans have
00:57:51certainly had a good start to the day there's been a lively porsche race and then that endurance
00:57:55racing legends 45 minutes second stanza of the weekend to get them all in the mood before the
00:58:0024-hour warm-up session and then the road to le mans races increasingly le mans is becoming a race
00:58:06weekend not just one race and it's great to see it we've got you know a packed packed support program
00:58:12even in the constraint weekend we've got here we worked it out something over 300 cars competing this
00:58:18weekend across the le mans 24 hours the road to le mans the endurance racing legends the fun cup and
00:58:23the porsche trophy race that took place earlier this morning and that's what i think the fans
00:58:29want to see david is variety out there and real competition and that was a very spirited historic
00:58:34racing event yeah i mean the fact that you've got people that drove the cars in period and or have
00:58:39good cvs anyway all adds to it doesn't it it does we did have some good battles we certainly had drivers
00:58:46that were trying hard even post-race there are shuffles to the order because i think we've mentioned
00:58:51during the course of it that heiko osman was given a penalty for a pit lane drama and so also lee
00:58:55maxedad page but james cottingham wins then from sean lynn with flora moulin third martin short four
00:59:01from xavier michron and mike newton a class-winning seventh dario franchiti and a class-winning eighth
00:59:05manu collard ahead of joe mccari and then stuart hall rounding out the top ten-year-old goethe's car
00:59:10nicholas ditting 11th with dominic roshman 12th richard mines in the vitaphone livery and aston martin
00:59:1613th ahead of max gerardo and then richard cook taking 15th place in the riley and scott and keep
00:59:23scrolling down and you find mike yules down in 30th place the mackinane is 31st lee maxedad page given a
00:59:30penalty so he ends up in 34th place and then one or two that were in strife and ended up being many
00:59:38laps down pierre bruno battled on despite a number of dramas and delays with the pill beam
00:59:44and sean lynn fastest lap of the race just to confirm in his dogged pursuit of race winner james
00:59:51cottingham excellent stuff and uh with the le mans classic due to rejoin the international calendar
00:59:58i think we've got one next year and 2023 if i recall correctly it's one of the ones that's been a
01:00:03casualty of the global pandemic but uh i see this as being part of that too i think we're going to see
01:00:09a lot more of these cars um out there racing so you can see watch them and hear them trackside
01:00:16watch them online too i'm absolutely certain of that but great entertainment this morning
01:00:20sets us up nicely for the action to come i just need to be careful because obviously there are two um
01:00:25historic racing bodies that operate the series for these cars that they're not over exploited they're
01:00:29not overused yes because then the costs are going to go up there's also more chance for for
01:00:34damage be it body work or mechanical and when you get to that tipping point
01:00:39so
01:00:44you
01:00:46you
01:01:09The first course of this classic event.
01:01:17Attention to this start.
01:01:20All this past that will come to the surface,
01:01:23that will come to the memory of everyone here,
01:01:27in the tribunes of the world.
01:01:39Time to score the number and what stage I brought,
01:01:43the first and foremost,
01:01:44the first section of the world.
01:01:46The first section of the world is the first section of the world.
01:01:50The first section we have seen is that the first section of the world of cl number 14.
01:02:02This section was run out with the first section,
01:02:04which was the first section of the world.
01:02:37Getting ready for the stars of the race three, a door-handled, a door-handled race behind
01:03:05the leader. The racing is just as electrified as it has been throughout the weekend.
01:03:35Let's call it God.
01:03:37Let's take it.
01:03:38Let's take it.
01:04:05Let's take it.
